detallan a continuación:
INGLÉS ESPAÑOL
Sensible Sensato
Sensitive Sensible
Relieve Aliviar
Attend Asistir (a un lugar o evento)

diccionario?
“Adjetivos”.

* given: verbo irregular, participio pasado de “give” (dar)
sustantivo.
Ej: “Modern microscopes use two magnifying lenses” (Los microscopios modernos utilizan dos

Ejemplo:
“… the Agency has also tackled issues such as the fuel supply crisis , the impact
on meat supplies of the foot and mouth outbreak and the introduction of single-use
(and) y preposiciones (for, on, of). La segmentación de la oración, entonces,
quedaría así:
the Agency / has also tackled / issues /such as the fuel supply crisis /, the impact
on meat supplies /of the foot / and mouth outbreak / and the introduction / of single-use
PREDICADO: (has also tackled ) issues such as the fuel supply crisis , the impact

b) CONSTRUCCIONES COMPARATIVAS
Grado Comparativo
Ej:
✓ Eukaryotic cells are more complex than bacteria.
ADJETIVO + ER + [THAN]
Grado Superlativo

Excepciones
Expresión de igualdad
AS + Adjetivo + AS
NOT AS + Adjetivo + AS
Ej:
Human genetics is as interesting as Chemistry.
modificado por algún verbo auxiliar (be, have, do) o algún verbo modal (can/may,
must)*:
Participio Participio ✓ We
Infinitivo Presente Pasado are

Define/
(to) define Defined Defining Defined
defines
Change/
(to) change Changed Changing Changed
changes
undergoing a period of profound and rapid changes.

TIEMPOS VERBALES
I - El Tiempo Presente
1. Presente Simple:
✓ One of the outstanding features of the modern industrial phase has been
the massive introduction of machines.
II - El Tiempo Futuro
FUTURO
FUTURO SIMPLE FUTURO PERFECTO
CONTINUO/PROGRESIVO
✓ Basic human needs make for similarities among cultures, but there will be
differences in ways cultures solve particular problems. (verdad general)
✓ There are those who believe that man will succeed in reaching a new
ecological equilibrium before it is too late. (actividad futura)
✓ By the year 2050, mankind will be using about as much energy as it is used by
all other animals and plants put together
✓ By the end of the century, the population of the world will have doubled (Hacia
PASADO
PASADO SIMPLE PASADO PERFECTO
CONTINUO/PROGRESIVO
1. Pasado Simple :
✓ The use of fire is an early and clear example of man’s potential as a modifier
of the environment. Man had already become a significant ecological force
and human groups no longer fitted into their local systems in quite the same
way as other animals.
• DO / DOES / DID
tiempos presente simple y pasado simple.
✓ No tienen traducción en español.
✓ En la negación, se incluye la partícula not entre el auxiliar y el verbo (“do not
touch” = no tocar)
singular y del plural (I, you, we, they)
“Prokaryotic cells do not exhibit an internal organization”
✓ DOES se utiliza en el presente simple con la segunda persona del singular (he,
she, it)
“Does your body contain many cells?”
• WILL
“The discovery of a cure for cancer will be a milestone in the history of
medicine”
VERBOS MODALES
como un verbo principal (do = hacer; have=tener)
can could
may might
shall should
will would
must Ought to
CAN:
• Habilidad (poder) “You can use a microscope to see very small objects and
particles”
• Posibilidad “Some chemicals can be very dangerous”
pasado.
COULD:
MAY/MIGHT:
• Posibilidad remota:
“Education might/may help resolve some of the problems of the
contemporary world”
“Ecological measurements may never be as precise or subject to the same
ease of analysis as measurements in physics, chemistry, or certain quantifiable
areas of biology.”
MUST/HAVE TO
• Obligación (deber):
“Some psychologists believe that aggression is a basic human instinct that
must be satisfied”
“All the variables have to be considered”.
SHALL/WILL
• Certeza (no tiene equivalente en español):
”In this chapter, I shall concentrate on three main issues…”
“Education will be the inspiration for social change.”
SHOULD/OUGHT TO
“Human rights should not be regarded as an abstraction but as practical
guidelines for action which should be part of the lives of all men and women”
WOULD
It is possible that if we all ended up speaking the same language, our brains
would lose some of their natural capacity for linguistic inventiveness. We would
never be able to discover the origins of human language or resolve the
mistery of “the first language”.
1. Education (can/could) help resolve some of the problems of the contemporary world.
4. Epistemology (will/ may) be defined here as the branch of philosophy concerned with the
nature and scope of knowledge.
8. The human rights movement (cannot/would not) be removed from the context of its own history
and structure.
Ejemplos:
• Turn in your cycle log each Friday.
• In case of fire, press this button
• Do not open this door
ESTRATEGIAS MICROESTRUCTURALES
“The tapeworm lives in the intestines of its host. This endoparasite resists
digestion and makes use of the nutrients there”
ELEMENTOS REFERENCIALES
Otros ejemplos de referencia incluyen: so, such, there, here, then, etc.
• “As the experiments were successful, the researchers published a paper about them”.
Sust. Pron.
• “We studied six of the amino acid R groups, particularly the ones containing ring structures”.
Frase nominal Pron.
• “This English course will help you improve your reading skills”

2. Today´s ecological problem consists in the deterioration of man´s natural environment through
industrialisation and urbanisation of (their/his) mode of life.
3. The purpose of a Biosphere Reserve is to reconcile the needs of people and (his/their) natural

A) “A large number of the cultural properties on the World Heritage List are religious
monuments. They range in size from a small medieval wooden church in Norway to a sacred
city in Sri Lanka; some are located in the heart of historic city centres, others in remote rural
areas. Are such monuments bound by a thread of common values which trascends their
diversity?” […] (A sense of the sacred: the values enshrined in holy places, by Oleg Grabar.
Unesco Courier )
B) “Certain values attached to religious monuments are peculiar only to them. Three of these
values, which may be called spiritual, aesthetic and cultural, are of particular importance,
because each one affects the ways in which religious monuments can be explained and
interpreted to those who wish to see or understand them.” […] (A sense of the sacred: the
values enshrined in holy places, by Oleg Grabar. Unesco Courier)
C) “Each culture is characterized by its customs, its conception of the place of mankind in the
universe, its beliefs. Each has its rituals, its modes of dress, each contributes to the incredible
range of plastic arts or architecture, music, song, dance and all other manifestations of
mankind´s creative imagination. Each has given humanity scientific discoveries or new
technologies to ease the workload or relieve suffering. These ideas, these dances, these
techniques are, as in the field of biology, the fruit of multiple interactions between man and his
surroundings” (Unesco Courier)
Estrategias Macroestructurales

Coercion
In psychological coercion, the threatened injury regards the victim’s relationships with
other people. The most obvious example is blackmail, where the threat consists of
the dissemination of damaging information. However, many other types are possible
e.g. so-called «emotional blackmail», which typically involves threats of rejection
from or disapproval by a peer-group, or creating feelings of guilt/obligation via a
display of anger or hurt by someone whom the victim loves or respects. Another
example is coercive persuasion. Government agencies may use highly intimidating
methods during investigations e.g. the threat of harsh legal penalties. The usual
incentive to cooperate is some form of plea bargain i.e. an offer to drop or reduce
criminal charges against a suspect in return for full cooperation.

In this article Laurel Richardson, a sociologist and writer in the field, describes six
examples of how the English language portrays women as inferior. The first example
is that women are not seen separately of men. The word «he» or «man» is used to
describe both men and women in a group setting. An example of this is «one small
step for mankind». Therefore, when people read examples like this men are almost
always envisioned. The second example is that many pronouns are gender specific.
Words such as nurse and secretary are always associated with women and lawyer
and doctor are associated with men. We also are taught to associate weak words like
small and graceful as feminine and words such as strong and powerful with men.
There is motivation by some to make the language more neutral by using phrases
such as police officer instead of policeman but the language is still far from being
unbiased. The third example is that men are infrequently called «boy» unless they are
young or are being ridiculed but women of all ages are referred to as girl. Women of
all ages have «girls night out» but one never hears of a boy’s night out.
The next example is that women are defined in terms of their sexual desirability to
men whereas men are defined in terms of their sexual «prowess» over women. Slang
words for women include «chick» and «broad» whereas men are referred to as
«stud» or «hunk». The language reinforces the expectations in females and males as
sexual objects and performers. Neutral words --it’s easy, he’s easy, she’s easy-- can
become sexual when applied to women. The first shows that something that one does
is easy. The second refers to people that are easy such as teachers but the third
generally refers to a woman being a slut. The fifth example is the way women are
defined in terms of their relation to men whereas men are defined in their relation to
the world at large. The example given was the difference between the meaning of
master and mistress. Master is a positive term given to men when they are good at
something whereas a mistress is a «bad girl». The last example is that many neutral
words that are feminine are now being used derogatorily. Words such as mother are
being added to swear words to change their meanings. Richardson thinks this is
another way women are brought down in society and made to feel inferior.

Accounting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
.
Accounting or accountancy is the measurement, processing and communication of
financial information about economic entities. The modern field was established by
the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli in 1494. Accounting, which has been called the
"language of business", measures the results of an organization's economic activities
and conveys this information to a variety of users,
including investors, creditors, management, and regulators. Practitioners of
accounting are known as accountants. The terms 'accounting' and 'financial reporting'
are often used as synonyms.
Accounting can be divided into several fields including financial
accounting, management accounting, auditing, and tax accounting. Accounting
information systems are designed to support accounting functions and related
activities. Financial accounting focuses on the reporting of an organization's financial
information, including the preparation of financial statements, to external users of the
information, such as investors, regulators and suppliers; and management accounting
focuses on the measurement, analysis and reporting of information for internal use by
management. The recording of financial transactions, so that summaries of the
financials may be presented in financial reports, is known as bookkeeping, of
which double-entry bookkeeping is the most common system.
Accounting is facilitated by accounting organizations such as standard-
setters, accounting firms and professional bodies. Financial statements are usually
audited by accounting firms, and are prepared in accordance with generally accepted
accounting principles(GAAP). GAAP is set by various standard-setting organizations
such as the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in the United States and
the Financial Reporting Council in the United Kingdom. As of 2012, "all major
economies" have plans to converge towards or adopt the International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Todd Chow knew the search for a well qualified CEO for his favorite portfolio company, Secursiv
Networks, would not be easy. Secursiv is a Boston based network security software company that
has developed a very good product and has gained some initial revenue traction. After a rather
lengthy process, exhausting both personal networks and using a professional search firm, the
board has to decide between three solid candidates. Even though all three candidates (Adam, Burt,
and Charlie) could be a solid CEO, none of them stand out as the obvious choice. In order to get a
better overall picture of the their strengths and weaknesses, Todd prepared a short summary that
he emailed to his fellow board members:

Adam Smith
Adam knows the industry well, and has spent the last 3 years focused
on solving a very similar customer problem to what we are doing with
Startup Inc. At his3 current employer, IBM, he is a VP in charge of
about 160 people and with a total P&L responsibility of around $65M
of annual sales. Most of Adam’s references have come back very
strong, he is considered one of the shining stars at IBM. However,
one of his peer references mentioned that he could be quite
political. There are some concerns related to Adam’s lack of start-
up experience. He is also quite focused on a high base salary, and
has asked some questions that lead me4 to believe he is not well
educated on the value of equity in a growing start-up. Adam lives in
Newton with his wife and two kids.
Burt Nelson
Everybody in the industry knows Burt, he is truly one of the most
influential people in the network security world. Over the last 20
years he5 has focused on solving the exact same problem that Secursiv

not really developing as fast as we were hoping, and it was
complete write-off. Charlie is one of the hardest working people in
the Boston entrepreneurial society but he took the last year off to
learn how to fly his plane (which he uses to commute to his house
in Florida in the wintertime). During his11 career Charlie has never
worked directly in the security industry, but he has all the
applicable knowledge of how to build a business and create
shareholder value. Charlie is asking for 10% equity and a full
acceleration upon any kind of exit. He says he thinks we should
consider the fact that he is willing to work for an annual salary
of $50k before complaining about his equity requirements. He has a

Irving Fisher
(1867-1947)
I rving Fisher was one of America’s greatest mathematical economists and one
of the clearest economics writers of all time. He had the intellect to use
mathematics in virtually all his theories and the good sense to introduce it only
after he had clearly explained the central principles in words. And he explained
very well. Fisher’s Theory of Interest is written so clearly that graduate
economics students can read—and understand—half the book in one sitting,
something unheard of in technical economics.
Fisher defined capital as any asset that produces a flow of income over time. A
flow of income is distinct from the stock of capital that generated it, although the
two are linked by the interest rate. Specifically, wrote Fisher, the value of capital
is the PRESENT VALUE of the flow of (net) income that the asset generates. This
still is how economists think about capital and income today.
biases the tax code against saving and in favor of consumption. Fisher’s
reasoning is still used by economists today in making the case for consumption
taxes.
Fisher was also the first economist to distinguish clearly between real and
nominal interest rates. He pointed out that the real interest rate is equal to the
nominal interest rate (the one we observe) minus the expected INFLATION rate.
If the nominal interest rate is 12 percent, for example, but people expect
inflation of 7 percent, then the real interest rate is only 5 percent. Again, this is
still the basic understanding of modern economists.
Fisher laid out a more modern quantity theory of money (i.e., monetarism) than
had been done before. He formulated his theory in terms of the equation of
exchange, which says that MV = PT, where M equals the stock of
money; V equals velocity, or how quickly money circulates in an economy; P
equals the price level; and T equals the total volume of transactions. Again,
modern economists still draw on this equation, although they usually use the
version MV = Py,where y stands for real income.
Irving Fisher was born in upstate New York in 1867. He gained an eclectic
education at Yale, studying science and philosophy. He published poetry and
works on astronomy, mechanics, and geometry. But his greatest concentration
was on mathematics and economics, the latter having no academic department
at Yale. Nonetheless, Fisher earned the first Ph.D. in economics ever awarded
by Yale. After graduation he stayed at Yale for the rest of his career.

FEATURED ARTICLE | FEBRUARY 1, 2016
This argument is not airtight. Since compensation is not and cannot realistically
be paid, evaluating trade policy requires distributive value judgments. Moreover,
welfare economics has shown that efficiency in the above sense (Marshallian
efficiency) is not sufficient to guarantee Paretian efficiency—that is, a situation in
which everyone comes out better off or no worse off.
It is a fair bet, however, that the vast majority of people benefit from free
international trade. Producers across countries specialize in producing the goods
and services for which they have comparative advantages—and, thus, can sell at
lower prices. To the comparative advantage argument, we must add the dynamic
benefits of competition: having to compete with foreign competitors, domestic
producers become more efficient.
The argument for free international trade is exactly the same as the argument for
free domestic commerce. Every free exchange brings benefits to both parties to
the exchange; otherwise, one or both would have declined. Moreover, a general
environment of free trade increases the opportunities for the vast majority of
people who are not party to a particular trade. If free trade is bad for America, so
is free trade between, say, California and Texas. And so, for that matter, is free
trade within California and even within San Francisco. If you see the problem with
restricting San Franciscans from trading outside San Francisco, then you
understand the case for free international trade.

Keynesian Economics
by Alan S. Blinder
5. Many, but not all, Keynesians advocate activist stabilization policy to reduce
the amplitude of the businesscycle, which they rank among the most important
of all economic problems. Here, however, even some conservative Keynesians
part company by doubting either the efficacy of stabilization policy or the wisdom
of attempting it.
6. Finally, and even less unanimously, some Keynesians are more concerned
about combating unemployment than about conquering inflation. They have
concluded from the evidence that the costs of low inflation are small. However,
there are plenty of anti-inflation Keynesians. Most of the world’s current and past
central bankers, for example, merit this title whether they like it or not. Needless
to say, views on the relative importance of unemployment and inflation heavily
influence the policy advice that economists give and that policymakers accept.
Keynesians typically advocate more aggressively expansionist policies than non-
Keynesians.

Themes and Topics of Research in Marketing: A Content Analysis of the
Articles Published in Three Marketing Journals
- Mahmoud Abdel Hamid Saleh1-
1 Department of Marketing, College of Business Administration, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Abstract
This study aimed at classifying the themes of marketing in the articles published in
three top journals in the field of marketing from 2010 to 2014. At the same time, the
study aimed at identifying the researchers interest and topics in each theme. The
study findings demonstrated that the Journal of Marketing Research has got a
share of 39% of the total published articles of those three journals, compared to
35% for the Marketing Science journal, and 26% for the Journal of Marketing. With
respect to the research themes, extensive interest has been given to consumer
behavior at 22%, e-marketing at 10%, advertising at 7%, promotion and pricing at
7% each, product development at 5%, and marketing management at 4%. The
study also concluded the researchers’ negligence of important themes in
marketing theory, such as: marketing ethics, international marketing, social
responsibility, service marketing, competitive analysis, and customer relationship
management. Moreover, the study found that each of the three journals has
extensively published on some specific themes compared to the other two journals.
The journal of Marketing Science has published more articles on e-marketing,
channels of distribution, competitive analysis, and marketing ethics. The Journal of
Marketing has published more articles on branding, sales and sales management,
value creation, services and service quality, customer relationship management,
international marketing, social responsibility, and customer loyalty. The Journal of
Marketing Research has published more articles on consumer behavior, branding,
pricing, retailing, and customer satisfaction.

EU CHEMICALS ACTIVITY
While the European chemical industry experienced a recovery in 2004, there is a
growing doubt that this positive trend will last in 2005. Basic inorganics, petrochemicals
and plastics show a downward trend after having reached a high level in 2004. Most
adversely affected by the slower business are fine and specialty chemicals with a
growth rate of just 0.6% in 2005. In this sector, growth will be considerably lower than
last year. By contrast, after a difficult year in 2004, the less cyclical pharmaceuticals
production is back on the growth path. The situation is also improving for consumer
chemicals. The chemical industry is hoping for better business development in Europe
in 2006. For 2006 as a whole Cefic expects a production increase of 1.9% (excluding
pharmaceuticals). Pharmaceutical production should continue to develop above the
average so that chemical production including pharmaceuticals will grow by 2.3%.
The output of the chemical industry covers four wide ranges of products: base
chemicals, speciality and fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer chemicals.
• Base chemicals covers petrochemicals and derivatives and basic inorganics. They
are produced in large volumes, and are sold to the chemical industry itself or to
other industries. They represent 37.7% of total EU chemicals sales.
• Specialties cover the auxiliaries for industry, dyes & pigments, oleochemicals,
crop protection, and paints & inks. Fine chemicals represent pharma-, agro-, and
chemical intermediates. They are produced in small volumes but represent 27%
of total EU chemicals sales.
• Pharmaceuticals represent both basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical
preparations but not pharmaceuticals intermediates. They account for 24.9%
of total EU chemicals sales.
• Finally, consumer chemicals are sold to final consumers: soaps and detergents,
perfumes and cosmetics. They represent 10.4% of total EU chemicals sales
