correspondiente.
2. Si no tienes acceso a internet o tus datos no te permiten acceder a la plataforma
de “Google Classroom”, lo envías al correo institucional de tu profesora
correspondiente.
3. Recuerda que en el segundo caso también debes colocarle nombre a tu archivo y
también debes colocar tu nombre y curso dentro del archivo para evitar
confusiones.
4. Contáctanos en el grupo de WhatsApp de la asignatura, a las horas establecidas,
por Meet en el horario establecido o por correo electrónico.

TOPICS: VOCABULARY “THE REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS”.

English has two Types of verbs in the past tense: Regular verbs and Irregular verbs.
Regular verbs are verbs that end with -ed.

SIMPLE FORM PAST TENSE

Walk Walked
Cry Cried
Live Lived

REGULAR PAST TENSE VERBS END IN -ED AND HAVE SPECIAL SPELLING
RULES:

1. Add "-ed" to a verb to change it to the past tense. For example, "talk + ed = talked".

2. Verbs ending with "consonant-vowel-consonant": When a verb ends with a

consonant-vowel-consonant and we put STRESS on this sound in speech, we double
the last consonant. Then we add ed.

stop stopp + ed stopped

plan plann + ed planned

But if we don't put STRESS on this sound in speech, then we simply add ed.

open open + ed opened

visit visit + ed visited

3. Verbs ending with "e": When a verb ends with the letter e, we add only the letter d.

dance dance + d danced

smile smile + d smiled

4. Verbs ending with "y": When a verb ends with the letter y and there is a consonant
before it, the y changes into i. Then we add ed.

try tri + ed tried

study studi + ed studied

When a verb ends with y and there is a vowel before it, we simply add ed to the verb.

play play + ed played

enjoy enjoy + ed enjoyed

Some verbs in English have irregular past forms:

I ate breakfast this morning.

Sue took a taxi to the airport.

An irregular verb is one that does not take the -ed ending for the Past Simple form. Some
irregular verbs do not change; put put put, while others change completely; buy bought
bought.

There are not rules for these verbs. You must learn them. In this worksheet, you will find
a list of the most common irregular verbs in English with their meanings.

TOPICS: MUST AND MUSTN’T, HAVE TO / DON'T HAVE TO.

Must and mustn’t.

We can use must to tell people what they have to do, to talk about rules. For the negative, we
can say must not or mustn’t.

Examples:
 Parents must take care of their children.
 You mustn’t shout in the library.
 She must not forget her books.

We sometimes use must or mustn’t in school rules.

Examples:
 I must do my homework.
 You mustn’t be late for class.
 We must wear our school uniform.

We often use must to say that something is essential or necessary. For example: I must go.

Structure of must

Must is a modal auxiliary verb. It is followed by a main verb. The basic structure for must is:

subject + auxiliary verb + main verb

must base

Look at these examples:

 I must go home.
 You must visit us.
 We must stop now.

We use must not to say that something is not permitted or allowed, for example:
Passengers must not talk to the driver.

Structure of must not

Must is an auxiliary verb. It is followed by a main verb.
The basic structure for must not is:

subject + must not + main verb

Have to / don't have to.

Sometimes in life there are obligations or rules. There are things which you do not have a choice
in, like wearing a uniform at school, for example. One structure we use to talk about these rules
or duties is have to. Don't have to is used when there is no obligation to do something.

Positive:
We use 'have to' to talk about things we must do, things we are obliged to do.

Subject have to / has to base form of verb

I

have to wear a uniform.
We

He

Negative:
We use 'don't have to' to talk about things we have a choice about, things we aren't obliged to
do.

Subject don't / doesn't have to base form of verb

I
You
don't have to
We work late.
