Do We Change
Do We Change
¿Cambiamos?
The researchers first carried out a study in 1950, in which a group of teachers
filled out personality assessments for over a thousand 14-year-olds.
Then, in 2012 the researchers tracked down the students from the 1950 study
that were now 77 years old.
Several hundred of the original participants agreed to take a personality test
When the then-and-now test results were compared, the researchers found
virtually no overlaps.
So it appears that the younger and older self bore no resemblance for each
person.
Previous research had always claimed that personality plasticity, which means
how much our character traits change, declines after early adulthood and that
personality traits are stable over long periods of time.
But this recent research seems to show us that as the decades go by, you really
aren't the same person you used to be.
