 Pensamientos del Libertador Simón Bolívar

1. Como amo la libertad tengo sentimientos nobles y liberales, y si suelo ser

severo, es solamente con aquellos que pretenden destruirnos.

 As I love freedom I have noble and liberal feelings, and if I am

usually severe, it is only with those who seek to destroy us

2. El primer día de paz, será el último de mi mando.

 The first day of peace will be the last day of my command.

3. La gloria debe ser insaciable cuando se funda en sus verdaderos principios.

 Glory must be insatiable when it is founded on its true principles.

4. El que no está con la libertad puede contar con las cadenas del infortunio y
con la desaprobación universal.

 He who is not with freedom can count on the chains of misfortune

and universal disapproval.

5. Más hace en un día un intrigante que cien hombres de bien en un mes.

 He makes an intriguer more in one day than a hundred good men

in a month.

6. Las cosas, para hacerlas bien, es preciso hacerlas dos veces: la primera
enseña la segunda.

 Things, to do them well, must be done twice: the first teaches the
second.

7. Mis temores nunca me han burlado. Ellos son presagios infalibles.

 My fears have never mocked me. They are infallible omens.

8. Un hombre sin estudios es un ser incompleto.

 A man without studies is an incomplete being.

9. La educación forma al hombre moral, y para formar un legislador se
necesita ciertamente educarlo en una escuela de moral, de justicia y de leyes.

 Education forms moral man, and to form a legislator it is certainly

necessary to educate him in a school of morality, justice and law.

10. ¡colombianos! Mis últimos votos son por la felicidad de la patria. Si mi

muerte contribuye para que cesen los partidos y se consolide la Unión, yo bajaré
tranquilo al sepulcro.

 ¡Colombians! My last vows are for the happiness of the country. If

my death contributes to the end of the parties and the consolidation
of the Union, I will calmly go down to the grave.
