FAJAS TRANSPORTADORAS
CONVEYOR BELTS
1.0 PURPOSE
It is the policy of Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. to issue
standards to provide a safe and productive work
environment to its entire personnel. Establishing safe
procedures for operating and maintaining conveying
systems is an important part of realizing this goal.
2.0 DEFINITIONS
Conveyor Belt
 A rubber strip designed to transport materials
at a given speed. It is normally protected and
it is moved with the aid of pulleys and rollers.
Guards
 An element protecting against accidental
contact with a machine’s exposed, moving
parts. This is an object which can be
removed while performing maintenance.
Hopper
 The top surface where all the material or
mineral from the cut is placed for subsequent
crushing.
PRS
 Reflective safety garment.
Crown Pulley
 Pulley located at the unloading end of the
conveyor belt. In most cases, the crown
pulley is a driving pulley powered by a motor.
Tail Pulley
 Pulley used to change the direction of
movement of the belt, for return with the load
into the opposite direction.
Counterweight Pulley
 Used to apply tension to the transport belt.
The most common is the gravity type which
uses a counterweight. Tension can also be
applied by winches, hydraulic jacks or
threaded jacks. Tail pulleys are often used as
counterweight pulleys.
Inflexion Pulley
 Pulley used to change the direction of the
transport belt.
Return Pulley
 Pulley used to increase the contact arc in the
crown or driving pulley.

1.0 PROPOSITO
Es política de Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. establecer
estándares para proveer un ambiente de trabajo
productivo y seguro a todo el personal. Establecer
procedimientos seguros para operar y mantener los
sistemas de fajas transportadoras es una parte
importante para la realización de esta meta.
2.0 DEFINICIONES
Faja transportadora
 Es una banda de hule diseñada para
transportar materiales a una velocidad
establecida, generalmente está protegida y se
vale de poleas y polines para su movimiento.
Guarda (Resguardo)
 Elemento que protege contra el contacto
accidental de una parte móvil expuesta de una
máquina. Son objetos que pueden ser
removidos mientras se efectúa el
mantenimiento.
Hopper
 Es la tolva que recibe el material o mineral del
tajo para su posterior chancado.
PRS
 Prenda reflectiva de seguridad.
Polea de cabeza
 Polea en el extremo de descarga de la faja
transportadora. En la mayoría de los casos, la
polea de cabeza es una polea motriz con un
motor de accionamiento.
Polea de cola
 Polea usada para cambiar la dirección de la faja
de retorno a la dirección de trayectoria con
carga.
Polea de contrapeso
 Se usa para aplicar tensión a la faja
transportadora. Las más comunes son las
poleas de tipo de gravedad que usan un
contrapeso. La tensión también puede aplicarse
mediante winches, gatas hidráulicas o gatas de
rosca. La polea de cola con frecuencia se usa
como polea de contrapeso.
Polea de inflexión
 Polea usada para cambiar la dirección de la
trayectoria de la faja transportadora.
Polea de retorno
 Polea usada para aumentar el arco de contacto
en la polea de cabeza o motriz.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
Workers
- Look after the condition and operation of all
protective elements and safety systems.
- Report to their Supervisor any faults or
abnormalities in the operation of the equipment.
- Wear PRS if they work near moving equipment,
(line assistants, hopper operators and truck
dispatchers)
- Comply with this standard.
Supervisors must
- Ensure compliance with this standard.
4.0 PROCEDURE/GUIDELINE
General
1. Use EPPB.
2. Use respirator when necessary.
3. Use ear protection.
4. Use a harness when working where you can
fall from a conveyor.
5. Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts at all
times.
6. Do not wear loose clothing or implements
which may be tangled at a pulling point.
7. Use PRS only where required in areas that
must be fully closed.
8. Conveyor belt systems must not be used
unless all safety mechanisms and controls
are properly installed and operational.
Conveyor Belt
1. Any safety and protective devices, such as
belt alignment, zero velocity, unloading tops,
or level detectors, pull cord “emergency
stop” devices must never be bridged in
order to continue in operation.
2. Emergency stops must be properly marked.
3. No loose clothing, jewelry or other objects
hanging from the body must be used in the
work area. Long hair must be protected from
any possibilities of it being captured.
4. It is absolutely prohibited to use the belt as a
means to transport personnel or objects.
5. Pedestrian walkways or bridges must be set
up, properly marked and delimited. They
must always be kept clean and in good
operating condition and they must be built in
areas where return rollers are at a minimum
height of 2.5 meters.
6. It is prohibited to cross over or under a belt,
unless there are bridges or walkways which
are properly protected, guaranteeing that
there is no contact between the system and

3.0 RESPONSIBILIDADES
Trabajadores
- Cuidar del buen estado y funcionamiento de los
elementos de protección y sistemas de seguridad
de los equipos.
- Reportar a su Supervisor cualquier desperfecto o
anomalía en el funcionamiento de los equipos.
- Emplear PRS si trabajan cerca de equipos en
movimiento, (auxiliares de línea, operadores de
Hopper y despacho de camiones)
- Cumplir con el presente estándar.
Supervisores
- Verificar el cumplimiento del presente estándar.
4.0 PROCEDIMIENTO/GUIA
Generales
1. Usar el EPPB.
2. Use respirador cuando sea necesario.
3. Use protección para los oídos.
4. Use el arnés cuando al realizar algunos trabajos
exista el riesgo de caída.
5. Use pantalones largos y camisas de manga larga
en todo momento.
6. No use ropa suelta o implementos que puedan
enredarse en algún punto de pellizco.
7. Use PRS solo en áreas que lo requieren, éste
siempre debe estar completamente cerrado.
8. Los sistemas de fajas transportadoras no se
operarán a menos, que todos los mecanismos y
controles de seguridad se encuentren bien
instalados y operativos.
Fajas transportadoras
1. Los dispositivos de seguridad y protección, tales
como alineamiento de la faja, velocidad cero,
tolvas de descarga, o detectores de nivel,
dispositivos de “parada de emergencia”(pull
cord) nunca deberán ser puenteados para
continuar operando.
2. Los dispositivos de parada de emergencia deben
estar correctamente señalizados.
3. En el área de trabajo no deberá emplearse ropa
suelta; joyas, ni objetos que cuelguen del cuerpo;
y el cabello largo deberá protegerse de cualquier
posibilidad de quedar atrapado.
4. Está terminantemente prohibido usar la faja
como medio de transporte de personal o de
objetos.
5. Se establecerán pasos o puentes peatonales,
debidamente señalizados y demarcados, estos
deben mantenerse siempre limpios y operativos y
la construcción de ellos será en zonas donde los
polines de retorno estén a una altura mínima de
2.50 metros.
6. Queda prohibido cruzar por encima de una faja o

the worker.
7. There must also be passages or roads to be
exclusively used by mobile units or service
vehicles.
8. Only after complying with the Standards for
Energy Isolation - Lock-Out / Tag-Out is it
permitted to cross over or under the belts.
9. It is PROHIBITED to work closer than two
meters from the belts while they are IN
MOTION.
10. Pulleys must never be cleaned manually
whilethe conveyor is operating.
11. No attempts must be made at repairing,
accommodating or holding a belt, its rollers or
other parts of the system while they are in
motion.
12. Before coming in contact with any moving
part, the system must be stopped using the
Standards for Energy Isolation - Lock-Out /
Tag-Out.
13. Violating a guard for purposes of gaining
access to lubricating points is prohibited.
14. Keep service walkways and stairs clean at all
times.
15. The Supervisor must ensure that the layout
of work areas and pedestrian traffic is
adequately identified and isolated.
16. On a weekly basis, the Supervisor must
check on the proper operation and placement
of safety and protective devices.
Crushing / Screening / Transport Conveyor Belt
Systems
1. Portable crushing / screening / conveyor belt
systems must not be operated unless all
safety mechanisms and controls are
operational and properly installed. This
includes emergency stop cords, guards and
dust covers/seals.
2. The Supervisor must ensure that the layout
of work areas and pedestrian traffic is
adequately identified and isolated.
3. On a weekly basis, the Supervisor must
check on the proper operation and placement
of safety and protective devices.
4. Personnel carrying out maintenance or
clearing jams at the screen grill must wear
safety harness.

10. Nunca se limpiarán manualmente las poleas
mientras la faja se encuentre operando.
11. No trate de reparar, acomodar o sujetar una faja,
sus polines u otra parte del sistema si se
encuentran en movimiento.
12. Antes de entrar en contacto con cualquier parte
móvil, el sistema deberá ser detenido usando los
Estándares Aislamiento de Energía –
Bloqueo/Rotulado
13. Está prohibido tratar de violentar las guardas con
el propósito de poder accesar puntos de
lubricación.
14. Mantener siempre limpios los pasillos y escaleras
de servicio.
15. El Supervisor verificará que la disposición de las
áreas de trabajo y circulación peatonal se
encuentren debidamente identificadas y aisladas.
16. Semanalmente, el Supervisor verificará el buen
funcionamiento y colocación de los dispositivos
de seguridad y resguardos de protección.
Sistemas de chancado / tamizado / fajas
transportadoras
1. Los sistemas portátiles de chancado / tamizado /
fajas no se operarán a menos que todos los
mecanismos de seguridad y controles de
seguridad se encuentren operativos y bien
instalados. Esto incluye dispositivos de parada
de emergencia, guardas y cubiertas/sellos para
polvo.
2. El Supervisor verificará que la disposición de las
áreas de trabajo y circulación peatonal se
encuentren debidamente identificadas y aisladas.
3. Semanalmente, el Supervisor verificará el buen
funcionamiento y colocación de los dispositivos
de seguridad y resguardos de protección.
4. El personal que realice trabajos de
mantenimiento o desatoro en la parrilla de la
zaranda deberá usar arnés de seguridad.
