Sobre el autor / About the Author
Edward Brown was born in Massachusetts, USA in 1948. He started music studies at the
age of 4. His first solo performances with orchestra were Mozart’s Concerto nº 3 and Strauss’
Concerto nº 1, at the age of 16.
His main horn teacher was John Barrows at the University of Wisconsin, USA. At Wisconsin
he gave lessons for the first time. His first student (age 6) was Radovan Vlatkovic, who is now one
of the best known players on the international scene.
In 1968, Brown moved to South America, where he has been solo hornist in the principal
orchestras of Chile and Peru. His compositions have been played in many countries and he has
premiered many pieces for horn by South American and North American composers, along with
playing operas and symphonies by great composers such as Wagner, Mahler and Strauss. His
students from Chile and Peru have become very well known in Latin-America and Europe.
In may 2010, he published “First Steps for Horn”, the initial part of his method.
