1. Sustantivo:
2. Adjetivo:
Los Adjetivos son las características de las cosas o de las personas.
Ejemplos: ugly, intelligent, fat, tall, small. Ahora en Medicina: sick,
cancerous, serious, hurt, complicated. Todos los colores son adjetivos.
Es importante recordar, que en Inglés LOS ADJETIVOS NO SE
PLURALIZAN, sólo lo sustantivos; lógicamente al traducirlos al Español, se
hacen todos los ajustes necesarios.

Cruel and degrading treatment. Circumcision has been a cruel and degrading
treatment because it degrades the appearance and function of the male sex organ
because it removes large amounts of healthy functional protective erogenous
tissue. Doctors should not participate in this cruel treatment and must report
incidents on this torture treatment to their professional association or their
supervisor, if possible, or to an international human rights organization.

65. Many diseases are caused by a recent or remote invasion or infection of the
tissues of the host by a parasite (virus, bacterium, protozoon or fungus) . The
parasite (causal organism) is potentially transmissible from one host to another;
hence such diseases are infective.
66. The role played by fomites, e.g. utensils, bedding, letters or dust is in the light
of recent researches, assuming increasing importance.
67. A carrier is one who, although not himself suffering from the specific disease,
harbors, and is thus in a position to spread the causal organism.
68. The carrier state may persist for a varying period after a clinical attack of the
disease, which has rendered the patient himself immune. Such people are
named “ convalescent carriers“ .
69. People who have passed through no recognizable clinical attack of the disease,
can yet carry specific organisms and be immune to the disease; they are
healthy or contact carriers whose immunity has been acquired by small
repeated sub-clinical doses of infection.
70. The carrier state may be transient or permanent. Non immunes may carry it
temporarily, e. g. during latent infection or while incubating the disease.

The main constituents of the bile are its pigments, its salts, and
cholesterol together with a certain amount of mucin. The cholesterol and bile
pigments under certain conditions may be precipitated out of solution in the
form of stones. Gall stones are of three types: (a) pure cholesterol stones;
(b) the common mixed stones, consisting of cholesterol and bilirubin-
calcium; and (c) pure pigment stones. This
separation is not absolute, as most stones
are to some extent mixed, in the sense that
they contain a certain quantity of constituents
other than the predominating one.

DIABETES
When the body doesn’t make enough insulin to keep the insulin/ glucose
balance, or when the insulin doesn’t work , you probably have diabetes. When a
patient has diabetes, he or she must do the work the body used to do to keep the
insulin/glucose balance. Keeping these levels in the normal range , may help to
prevent the complications of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association
believes that close to normal, blood glucose levels should be between 70 mg/dL
and 120 mg/ dL before a meal , and less than 180 mg /dL two hours after a meal .
There are different kinds of diabetes , but people usually mention two : type I and
II. In Diabetes type I, the body doesn’t make any insulin. Children and young
people often have this kind of diabetes, although
older people can develop it too. Our protective
(immune ) systems are supposed to kill the cells
that cause the disease, but they sometimes make a
mistake and start killing the cells that produce
insulin. No one is sure why this happen, but
scientists all over the world are working on the
problem. In type II diabetes, there is some insulin,
but less and less is made over the time: many
people with type II diabetes weigh more than they should and many people have
diabetes because their body systems don’t work as well as they should.
Gestational diabetes is another type of diabetes that start when some women are
pregnant. It usually goes away when the baby is born, but more of the half will
have permanent diabetes later in life.

The total amount of harmful UV radiation that reaches the skin at any given time
is influenced by such factors as season, time of day , conditions of earth’s
atmosphere and proximity to the equator where the amount of UV light is the
greatest. Your chances of developing a sunburn are greatest between 10 a.m and
3 p.m when the sun rays are strongest at all latitudes. The risk drops
considerably before and after those times . Most
people discount the risk of getting sunburn on a
cloudy day, when the sun is not shining brightly.
People who work in the sun for years without sun
screen protection usually develop a tough leathery
skin that make them look 15 to 20 years older.
Attention should be paid to the protection of children
who tend to have longer outdoor exposure and may
not show the effects of sun damage until later in life.
Skin cancer is a disease caused by excessive and
long-term exposure to the sun , according to scientific
studies. It rarely occurs in the occasional sunbather.
More than 90 % of all skin cancers occur on parts of
the body exposed to the sun radiation . The face ,
neck, ears, forearms and hands are the most
common locations . The three main types of skin
cancer are basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma. First occurs in people who
have light hair, second occurs in fair-skinned persons. Melanoma is the most
dangerous form of skin cancer.
