Pues hoy vamos a jugar con nuestro verbo ms juguetn: "to play".
Una cosa importante: si en el tercer ejemplo hubiramos dicho "to play with the ba/1", estaramos haciendo

y 'jugar a algo'. No obstante, "to play the guitar" y "to play footba/1" no son cosas que todo el
mundo haga.
decimos en ingls, "to play music".
y "the music's playing' ('la msica est sonando').

"away": "Arsenal are beating Liverpool at home" ('El Arsenal est ganando al Liverpool en

This is comprehensible when taking into consideration the fact that many fina ncia!

Mini Fact JI: When someone tosses a penny and you have to choose either heads or tails, pick heads.
The head on the coin weighs slightly more than the tail, so you have a 51% chance of

I n add ition to being a noun to describe partici pants in a n activity ('1ootboll ployer", "poker
ployer", etc.), this word has a nother mea ni ng. A pi ayer is the na me given to a man who is known
to be a rea l "womonizer". They may either have lots of partners, l i ke a gen uine Casanova, or go
out with women for their money. Women on the other h a nd are practically never referred to as
"ployers"in this context. U nfortunately, more derogatory terms (that we shall not mention) are
penned to women who like to get i nvolved with a lot of men.
PLAYWRIGHT
A "ploywright" is quite simply someone who writes theatre plays. The most fa mous
"ploywright" in h i story is Shakespeare. One aston ishing fa ct is that there a re more pages
referring to h i m on Google than there a re of E lvis Presley a nd Bill Gates, despite the fact that
he died over 400 yea rs a go !
PLAYMATE
A "ploymote" is a com panion (us u a l ly in the context of chi l d ren) who plays with you d u ring
ti mes of recreation. He or she doesn't necessari ly have to be a friend, but rather somebody
who's t h e re to play together with beca use it's conveni ent for the parents.
TEAM PLAYER
We can define a "teom ployer" as somebody who contributes wel l in a team-working
environment. I n addition, he or she is a lways w i l l i n g to go that extra m i l e, stay beh i n d i n the
office for that extra hour or two, or cove r his or her colleagues' backs every now and aga in.
Being a tea m pi ayer is deemed by many as a n essent i a l attribute to possess when working in
a n environment i n wh ich you a re requ i red to col la borate with other people.
