BIOGRAFÍA
Pedro Abraham Valdelomar Pinto nació en Ica, Perú el
27 de abril de 1888. Su infancia la vive en la ciudad de
Pisco. Estudia en la Universidad Nacional Mayor de
letras de San Marcos. Dedica su juventud al
periodismo y la literatura, y consigue en poco tiempo
hacerse un nombre en ambos campos. Incursiona en
la política como partidario de Guillermo Billinghurt. Fue
director del periódico oficial El Peruano. Publica
poemas y relatos breves en revistas. Es el primer
escritor en Perú que vive de lo que escribe. En 1913
se embarca con destino a Roma. Desde allí continúa
escribiendo para su país, más específicamente para el
periódico La Nación, de Lima. Muere a los 31 años,
producto de una caída accidental en la cual se rompe
la columna vertebral. Sus enemigos se encargan de
difundir versiones delirantes sobre el motivo de su
muerte.

BONJOUR
Su libro El caballero Carmelo, escrito
en su estancia en Roma, le vale el
reconocimiento del gran público y es
considerado como el puntapié inicial
para la modernidad en la narrativa del
SALUT Perú. Algunas de sus obras fueron: El
ojo de Judas (cuento), La ciudad
muerta (novela), La ciudad de los
Tísicos (novela), El cantor errante
(cuento) y Belmonte, el trágico (ensayo
filosófico).

IMPORTANTES
A pesar de su corta edad, debido a su
apoyo al gobierno de Billinghurst, fue
nombrado director de la imprenta del
Estado y director del diario oficial El
Peruano. Fue diputado y se le asignó un
puesto diplomático en Roma. Fue
también secretario del presidente del
consejo de ministros en el gobierno de
José Pardo y Barreda.

LÍDER LITERARIO
En su época, Valdelomar se convirtió en un
auténtico líder literario, ayudando a autores
noveles a vivir de la escritura, sin tener que
realizar otro tipo de trabajos para
mantenerse. A su vez, bregó por una nueva
mentalidad intelectual peruana, más cercana
a lo popular y alejada de la aristocracia. Con
menos de 30 años, pero profundamente
vinculado, Abraham Valdelomar ayudó a un
joven César Vallejo a publicar sus primeros
poemas en revistas y periódicos peruanos de
la época.
