NOCIONES DE SISMOLOGIA

Es el estudio cientfico de los terremotos y la propagacin

de ondas elsticas a travs de la Tierra o de otros cuerpos
como planetas. El campo tambin incluye el estudio de los
efectos del terremoto, como los tsunamis, as como diversas
fuentes ssmicas volcnicas, tales como los procesos
tectnicos, ocenicos, atmosfricos y artificial (por ejemplo,
explosiones).

Un sismlogo es un cientfico que realiza investigaciones en

sismologa.

a. Prever las consecuencias potenciales de terremotos

fuertes en las zonas urbanas y en la infraestructura civil.

b. Disear, construir y mantener las estructuras de altura

expuestas a las potenciales expectativas de un terremoto
reduciendo los riesgos y de acuerdo con los cdigos de
construccin.
