 In this festival the beginning of spring is celebrated according to the lunar calendar.
(en este festival se celebra el comienzo de la primavera segú n el calendario lunar)

 New Year's Eve is known as chuxi. (La víspera del añ o nuevo es llamada chuxi)

 Each year corresponds to one of the animals of the Chinese zodiac, for example the
rat, the tiger, the buy, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the monkey, the
rooster, the dog and the pig. (A cada añ o le corresponde uno de los animales del
zodiaco chino, por ejemplo la rata, el tigre el buy,el conejo, el dragon, la serpiente, el
caballo, el mono, el gallo, el perro y el cerdo.)

 In total a lunar year has a total of three hundred and fifty-four days. (En total un añ o
lunar tiene en total trecientos cincuenta y cuatro días.)

 The most important shows are the dances of the dragons and the lions. (Los
espectá culos mas importantes son las danzas de los dragones y la de los leones.)

 Many people travel to spend with their families. (Muchas personas viajan para pasar
junto a sus familias.)

 Chinese New Year is the most important time of family meeting. (el añ o nuevo chino es
el momento mas importante de reunion familiar)

 The tradition begins with completely cleaning the house a week before the start of the
festival, they sweep, wash, clean. (La tradició n comienza con limpiar completamente
la casa una semana antes de iniciar el festival, ellos barren, lavan, limpian.)

 They buy food to welcome the new year with abundance. (Compran comida para
recibir el añ o nuevo con abundancia.)

 Decorate the house with paper cuts with phrases of happiness and abundance.

 They look forward to the new year watching TV where they present the national gala.
(Esperan el añ o nuevo viendo tv donde presentan la gala nacional.)

 It is tradition that adults give a red envelope to children with money. (Es tradició n
que los adultos regalan un sobre rojo a los niñ os con dinero.)

 On the first day of the new year they light firecrackers. (El primer dia del añ o nuevo
prenden petardos.)

 The Chinese do not leave home on the first day of the new year. (Los chinos no salen
de casa el primer dia de añ o nuevo.)

 And finally the family usually greet each other and wish a prosperous Chinese New
Year. (Y por ú ltimo la familia acostumbran a saludarse y desear un pró spero añ o
nuevo chino.)
