The Innovation Ford Radio communicates with iPod™ through the lines available at ISO C3
connector and the connection between ISO C3 and iPod™ requires a specific cable. This SRD does not
include neither specifies the cable.
The commands and status are transferred based on UART protocol and the iPod™ is responsible to
decode internal files and deliver analog audio to the radio via specific lines.
The “Mass Storage” areas into the iPod™ (size defined by the user) will not be accessible by using
iPod™ control line. Only the files stored in the iTunes™ area into the iPod™ can be accessed by using
iPod™ control line.
The list of iPodTM models and its firmware version that are compatible with the radio trough the
control line (30 Pins connector) is in the Annex III of this document.
To obtain the correctly functionality of the radio with the iPodTM, the download, exclusion and
management of music into iPodTM shall be realized using iTunesTM, the official software determined by
Apple®.
To ensure the best functionality it is recommended to keep the iPodTM updated with the latest
software version (iPodTM internal firmware) and also keep the iTunesTM up to date.
The radio follows the latest iPodTM interface specifications provided by Apple
(iPod_Accessory_Protocol_Ext_Spec_R22 and iPod_Accessory_Protocol_Std_Spec_R31 – Controlled
Copy documents). However Apple can release new versions of these specifications, release new iPodTM
firmware versions, as well as new iPodTM models without any previous advice. Based on this situation,
Visteon cannot guarantee that the Radio will be fully compatible with new Apple releases.
2 BLUETOOTH®
The Innovation Ford Radio has the Bluetooth® technology embedded to its circuitry to enable Cellular
Phone Hands Free and Audio Streaming functionality.
The radio is compliant with Bluetooth® versions v1.1 & v1.2.
The Bluetooth® profiles supported are HFP v0.96, v1.0 and v1.5, A2DP v1.0, AVRCP v1.0;
All the Bluetooth® features depends on the Bluetooth® device functions and compatibility. As no
common agreement exists, Bluetooth device manufacturers are able to implement a variety of profiles
and different functionality in their products. Because of this, an incompatibility can occur between the
Bluetooth device and the radio, which in some cases may significantly degrade the system performance.
• Bluetooth ON/OFF;
The user can enable/disable the Bluetooth functions of the radio.

phones execute disconnection when activating this function);
• Microphones off – The microphones of the hands-free system are disabled and enabled.
• Adjust call audio output volume during call;
The radio has an adjustment of audio output volume, used only when the radio is in phone mode.
This setup is user adjustable. The minimum volume that can be set is not 0 (mute).
• Echo canceling (EC) and noise reduction (NR)
• Wake-up radio during a incoming call (only in ignition on mode)
• Cellular phone Signal Strength indication;
• Receive audio (mono or stereo) from device via Bluetooth® (using the A2DP profile);
• Control Audio Player via Bluetooth®, using the AVRCP profile. The commands available are
PLAY, STOP, Seek Up, and Seek Down;
• Mute.
The radio has the capability to update via Bluetooth® technology the software of its internal
Bluetooth® module.
The amplifier output loads that can be connected are 4 ohms or 8 ohms.
The radio shall provide voltage limiting on all output channels. The Clip Detect signal shall be
enabled whenever device output distortion reaches 10% +/- 5%.
Upon receipt of the Clip Detect signal, the radio shall, reduce the amplitude of the signal. When the
Clip Detect signal indicates a non-clipped state, the radio shall increase the signal level back to the
unlimited value.
This function can be enabled or disabled by the user.
The radio has speaker short circuit protection. When the radio is on and the speaker outputs gets a
short circuit, the radio speakers output are switched off. While the speakers output are off, the radio
monitor to determine whether the short-circuit is still present.

According to requirement IE-0231 of SDS Audio V.29 and the test described below:
Purpose:
This test is designed to verify that the CD mechanism is able to play music while being exposed to
transient vibration input as occurs during vehicle operation. The CD mechanism must play the specified
test disc and track without audible degradation of the music while this test is being performed. For DV/PV
testing, the exact skip threshold acceleration shall be measured and included in DVP&R.
No audible skips, ticks, pops, etc. are allowed while the test is being conducted. After testing is complete
the disc(s) and magazine shall be inspected. No scratches, mars, or damage of any type is allowed to
the disc(s), magazine, or unit. Any deviations to the 35 m/s2 screening must be approved, in writing, by
Ford responsible for said product.
Test Description:
The test consists of a series of unique transient acceleration bursts. Each burst consists of 7 cycles of a
triangle waveform. Each of the 7 cycles in a specific burst have the same frequency. The amplitude of
cycles 1 to 7 of each burst are weighted, respectively, at 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 75%, 50% 25% of the
specified test amplitude. The waveform of a single burst is shown below:
The total test consists of 24 triangle bursts. A pause of 0.194 seconds occurs between bursts. Total test
time for all 24 bursts is 15 seconds. The first series of 12 bursts are repeated with their polarity inverted
to obtain the last series of 12 bursts. The fundamental frequency of 1 cycle for each of the 24 total bursts
is documented in the following table, along with the polarity of the burst.
17 12.2 INVERTED
18 22.2 INVERTED
19 13.5 INVERTED
20 24.6 INVERTED
21 14.9 INVERTED
22 27.1 INVERTED
23 16.5 INVERTED
24 30.0 INVERTED
Note that the test used a staggered order for the burst frequencies, and covers the range from 10Hz to
30Hz. The full series of 24 triangle bursts is shown in the following waveform.
The measured acceleration on the CD mechanism under test shall be greater than or equal to 35
m/s^2pp for each of the 24 bursts at maximum burst amplitude (corresponds to cycle number 4). A
uniform maximum acceleration at each burst frequency may be obtained either by pre-scaling the signal
driving the shaker to account for the system transfer function, or through use of a suitable controller.
The test shall be performed in the up-down direction. "Up-down" shall correspond to vehicle roof-to-floor
direction. During each test the CD mechanism shall be fixtured rigidly in the same orientation as when
installed in the vehicle. Only rigid fixturing, not vehicle mounting bracketry, will be used for the test.
Testing shall be performed either with the standard Ford demo disc (F4VF-18C822-AA) playing track
number 9, or alternatively with the ABEX aging disc (TCD792A) playing track number 12. CD units with a
removable magazine shall be tested with the magazine full. CD changers shall be tested separately for
the test disc retrieved from slot 1, the maximum slot, and the middle slot (defined as the maximum slot
divided by 2, rounded down to the nearest integer). Only discs free from scratches, fingerprints, mars
and defects shall be used for this test.
All vibration tests shall have Ford approval of test setup. Ford shall conduct the following test to
determine in-vehicle anti-skip performance of the unit. The units must functionally operate under the
conditions described in this section. The unit shall be evaluated in the designated vehicle by production
intent installation methods. A fully loaded magazine of compact discs shall be in the unit with one Ford
demonstration disc focused on track nine prior to starting the evaluation. The evaluator(s) shall be tested
separately for the test disc retrieved from magazine slot 1, the maximum slot and the middle slot (defined
as the maximum slot divided by two, rounded down to the nearest integer).
The vehicle shall be evaluated at the Dearborn Test Track low speed rough road evaluation
course. If the vehicle has variable suspension adjustment, set the stiffest available ride setting. The
units are to be tested at both the high temperature limit and low temperature limit for the vehicle system
which is defined to be from -10°C to 40°C. The following rough road surfaces and speeds (referenced by
Dearborn Test Track procedure VTP-022-DC) shall be evaluated by driving the vehicle three laps:
The evaluation shall be considered successful if the following conditions are met:
1. No major skips are encountered. A major skip shall be defined as a condition whereby
permanent audio muting occurs and/or disc ejection occurs. No permanent operating damage shall be
sustained by the unit that adversely affects operating performance or reliability.
2. No moderate skips are encountered with the exception of Cobblestone, which is allowed to
have up to two skips. A moderate skip shall be defined as a jump from one track to another or from one
program # to another.
3. No minor skips are encountered with the exception of Cobblestone, which is allowed to
have up to seven skips. A minor skip shall be defined as a short duration loss or alteration of audio
output.
Note: If the test track has changed since definition of this acceptance criteria, Ford reserves the
right to use a value judgment on the acceptability of the actual number of skips encountered.
13 EMC
The EMC testes will be conducted following the Electromagnetic Compatibility Specification (EMC Spec):
ES-XW7T-1A278-AC issued on October 10th, 2003.
