Los adjetivos calificativos – la comparación

ATENCIÓN: El adjetivo calificativo es invariable. Cuando se trata de un epíteto se coloca

generalmente delante del nombre al que califica.

2 La inferioridad:

Comparativo => less... (than), con incontables.

Peter spent less money than his father.
Peter gastó menos dinero que su padre.

Superlativo => the least.

That is the least important of our problems.
Este es el menos importante de nuestros problemas

3 La igualdad y la ausencia de igualdad:

Igualdad => as ... as.

Peter is as tall as his father.
Peter es tan alto como su padre.

Ausencia de igualdad => not so ... as/not as ... as.

It is not so/as good as it was before.
No es tan bueno como antes.

4 La superioridad:

Adjetivos cortos (una o dos sílabas).

Comparativo => adjetivo + -er ... (than)
Bob is taller than his father, now.
Bob es más alto que su padre, ahora.
Superlativo => the ... -est

ATENCIÓN: Al añadir las terminaciones -ER o -EST se producen ciertas modificaciones
ortográficas.
red => redder => the reddest
big => bigger => the biggest
happy => happier => the happiest
Adjetivos largos (dos o más sílabas).
Comparativo => more ... (than)
The book is more interesting than the film.
El libro es más interesante que la película.
Superlativo => the most
He has bought the most expensive car.
Ha comprado el coche más caro.

Clasificación de los adjetivos de dos sílabas.

Algunos se consideran "cortos":
clever, dirty, funny, gentle, quiet, silly, simple etc.
Otros siguen la regla de los adjetivos "largos":
boring, careful, correct, famous, modern, tiring, useful, etc.
ATENCIÓN: Comparativos y superlativos irregulares:
good => better => the best
bad => worse => the worst
far => farther/further => the farthest/the furthest
5 Aumento y disminución progresivas (cada vez más/ cada vez menos):

The days are getting shorter and shorter.

Los días se hacen cada vez más cortos.
The rain is less and less cold.
La lluvia es cada vez menos fría.
Things are getting better and better.
Las cosas van cada vez mejor.

6 El "doble comparativo" (µtheµ + comparativo + µtheµ + segundo

comparativo):

The more I see him, the less I like him!

Cuanto más lo veo, menos me gusta.

The transportation options here are going to be unsurpassed
and frankly are going to exceed those in place before 9/11.
