JUEVES 8 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 15, 1-10)

Meanwhile tax collectors and sinners were seeking the company of Jesus, all of then eager
to hear what he had to say. But the Pharisees and the scribes frowned at this, muttering.
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them”. So Jesus told them this parable:

Mientras tanto, los recaudadores de impuestos y los pecadores buscaban la compañía de

Jesús, todos ansiosos por escuchar lo que tenía que decir. Pero los fariseos y los escribas
fruncieron el ceño ante esto, murmurando. “Este hombre recibe a los pecadores y come
con ellos”. Entonces Jesús les dijo esta parábola:

Who among you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, will not leave the ninety-
nine in the wilderness and seek out the lost one till he find it? And finding it, will he not
joyfully carry it home on his shoulders?

¿Quién de ustedes, que tiene cien ovejas y pierde una de ellas, no dejará las noventa y
nueve en el desierto y buscará a la perdida hasta que la encuentre? Y encontrándolo, ¿no
lo llevará alegremente a casa sobre sus hombros?

Then he will call his friends and neighbors together and say: Celebrate with me for I have
found my lost sheep. I tell you, just so, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one
repentant sinner than over minety- nine upright who do not need to repent.

What woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one, will not light a lamp and sweep the
house in a thorough search till she finds the lost coin? And finding it, she will call her
friends and neighbors and say: “Celebrate with me for I have found the silver coin I lost!.
I tell you, in the same way there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant
sinner.”

arrepentido ".

MARTES 13 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 17,7 -10)

Who among you would say to your servant coming in from the fields after plowing or
tending sheep: “Come at once and sit down at table”? No, you tell him: “ Prepare my
dinner. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink; you can eat and drink
afterwards”.

Do you thank this servant for doing what you commanded?

So for you. When you have done all that you have been told to do, you must say: “We are
no more than servants; we have only done our duty”.

MIERCOLES 14 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 17,11 -19)

The ten lepers

On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus was passing along the border between Samaria and Galilee,
and as he entered a village , ten lepers came to meet him. Keeping their distance, they
called to him, “ Jesus , Master, have pity on us!” Then Jesus said to them, “ Go and show
yourselves to the priests”.

Now, as they went their way, they found they were cured. One of them, as soon as he saw
he was cleansed, turned back praising God in a loud voice, and throwing himself on his
face before Jesus, he have him thanks. This man was a Samaritan.

Then Jesus said, “ Were not all ten healed? Where are the other nine?
Was no one found to return and give praise to God but this alien? And Jesus said to him,
“Stand up and go your way; your faith has saved you”.

JUEVES 15 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 17,20 -25)

The coming of the kingdom of God

The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was to come. He answered, “The
kingdom of God is not like something you can observe and say of it: “Look, here it is!
There it is!” See, the kingdom of God is among you.”
And Jesus said to his disciples, “the time is at hand when you will long to see one of the
glorious days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Then people will tell you: “ look
there! Look here! Do not go, do not go, do not follow then.

As lighting flashes from one end of the sky to the other, so will it be with the Son of Man.
But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this people.

VIERNES 16 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 17,26 -37)

As it was in the days of Noah, so Will it be on the day the Son of Man comes.
Then people ate and drank; they took husbands and wives. But on the day Noah entered the
ark, the flood came and destroyed them all. Just as it was in the days of Lot: people ate
and drank, they bought and sold, planted and built.
But on the day Lot left Sodom, God made fire and sulfur rain down from heaven which
destroyed them all. So will it be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
On the day, if you are on the rooftop, don’t go down into the house to get your belongings,
and if you happen to be in the fields, do not turn back. Remember Lot is wife. Whoever
tries to save his life will lose himself, but whoever gives his life will be born again.

I Tell you, though two men are sharing the same bed, it may be that one will be taken and
the other left. Though two women are grinding corn together, one may be taken and the
other left. “
Then they asked Jesus, “¿where will this take place, Lord?” And the answered, “ Where the
body is, there too will the vultures gather”.

SABADO 17 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 18,1 -8)

Pray and never lose heart

Jesus told them a parable to show them that they should pray continually and not lose heart.
He said, “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor people. In the
same town was a widow who kept coming to him, saying: “ Defend my rights against my
opponent”. For a time he refused, but finally he thought: “ Even thought I neither fear God
nor care about people, this widow bothers me so much I will see that she gets justice; then
she will stop coming and wearing me out”
And Jesus explained, “Listen to what the evil judge says. Will God not do justice for his
chosen ones who cry to him day and night even if he delays in answering them? I tell you,
he will speedily do them justice. Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on
earth?

DOMINGO 18 DE NOVIEMBRE (MARK 13,24 -32)

The coming of the Son of Man

Later on, in those days after that disastrous time, the sun will grow dark, the moon will not
give its light, the stars will fall out of the sky and the whole universe will be shaken.
Then people will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
And he will send the angels to gather his chosen people from the four winds, from the ends
of the earth to the ends of the sky.
Learn a lesson from the fig tree. As soon as its branches become tender and it begins to
sprout leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see these things
happening, know what the time is near, even at the door. Truly, I say to you, this generation
will not pass away until all this has happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but may
words will not pass away.

But, regarding that Day and that Hour, no one knows when it will come, not even the
angels, not even the Son, but only the Father.

The blind man of Jericho

When Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road, begging. As he
heard the crowd passing by, he inquired what it was, and they told him that Jesus of
Nazareth was going by. Then he cried out, “ Jesus Son of David, have mercy on me!” The
people in front scolded him, “ Be quiet!” but he cried out all the more, “Jesus, Son of
David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and ordered the blind man to be brought to him, and when he came near, he
asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
And the man said, “Lord, that I may see!” Jesus said, “ Receive your sight, your faith has
saved you.” At once the blind man was able to see, and he followed Jesus, giving praise to
God.
And all the people who were there also praised Gold.

MARTES 20 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 19,1 -10)

When Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the city, a man named zaccheus was
there. He was a tax collector and a wealthy man. He wanted to see what Jesus was like, but
he was a short man and could not see because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed
up a sycamore tree.
From there he would be able to see Jesus who had to pass that way. When Jesus came to the
place, he looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus , come down quickly for I must stay at your
house today.” So Zaccheus hurried down and received him joyfully.
All the people who saw it began to grumble and said, “ He has gone to the house of a sinner
as a guest.” But Zaccheus spoke to Jesus, “ The half of my goods, Lord, I give to the poor,
and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay him back four times as much”. Looking at him
Jesus said, “ Salvation has come to this house today, for he is also a true son of Abraham.
The Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”

MIERCOLES 21 DE NOVIEMBRE (LUKE 19,11 -28)

LUNES 24 DE DICIEMBRE (LUKE 1, 67-79)
Zechariah, filled with holy spirit, sang this canticle, “ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for
he has come and redeemed his people.
He has raised up for us a victorious Savior in the house of David his servant, as he
promised through his prophets of old, salvation from our enemies and from the hand of our
foes.
He has shown mercy to our fathers and remembered his holy covenant, the oath he swore to
Abraham, our father, to deliver us from the enemy, that we might serve him fearlessly as a
holy and righteous people all the days of our lives.
And you, my child, shall be called prophet of the Most High, for you shall go before the
Lord to prepare the way for him and enable his people to know of their salvation. When he
comes to forgive their sins.
This is the work of the mercy of our God, who comes from on high as a rising sun.
Shining on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, and guiding our feet into
the way of peace”.

MARTES 25 DE DICIEMBRE (JHON 1, 1-18)

In the beginning was the Word.
And the Word was with God and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through him and without him nothing came to be.
Whatever has come to be , found life in him, life which for humans was also light.
Light that shines in the dark:

Light that darkness could not overcome.

A man came, sent by God; his name was John.
He came to bear witness, as a witness to introduce the Light so that all might believe
through him.
He was not the Light
But a witness to introduce the Light.
For the Light was coming into the world.
The true Light that enlightens everyone.
He was already in the world and through him the world was made, the very world that did
not know him.
He came to his own, yes his own people did not receive him; but all who have received him
he empowers to become children of God for they believe in his Name.
These are born, but without seed or carnal desire or will of man: they are born of God.
And the Word was made flesh; he had his tent pitched among us, and we have seen his
Glory, the Glory or the only Son coming from the Father:
Fullness of truth and loving- kindness.
John bore witness to him openly , saying: This is the one who come after me, but he is
already ahead of me for the was before me.
From his fullness we have all received, favor upon favor.
For God had given us the Law through Moses, but Truth and Loving- Kindness came
through Jesus Christ .
No one has ever seen God, but God- the-Only-Son made him known:
The one who is in and with the Father.
MIERCOLES 02 DE ENERO (JHON 1, 19-28)

Jhon the Baptist presents Jesus, the Lamb of God

This was the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who
are you” John recognized the truth and did not deny it. He said, “ I am not the Messiah”.

And they asked him, “Then who are you? Elijah?” He answered, “I m not” They said, “ Are
you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No” Then they said to him, “Tell us who you are, so
that we can give some answer to those who sent us. How do you see yourself?”

And John said, quoting the prophet Isaiah, “I am the voice crying out in the wilderness:
Make straight the way of the Lord”

Those who had been sent were Pharisees, so they put a further question to John: “Then why
are you baptizing if you are not the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?” John answered, “I
baptize you with water, but among you stand one whom you do not know; although he
comes after me, I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandal.”

This happened in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

MARTES 15 DE ENERO (MARK 1, 21-28)

They went into the town of Capernaum and Jesus began to teach in the synagogue during
the sabbath assemblies. The people were astonished at the way he taught, for he spoke as
one having authority and not like the teachers of the law.

It happened that a man with an evil spirit was in their synagogue and he shouted, “What do
you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:
You are they Holy One of God. Then Jesus faced him and said with authority , “Be silent
and come out of this man! Then evil spirit shook the man violently and, with a loud shriek,
came out of him.

All the people were astonished and they wondered, “ What is this? With what authority he
preaches! He even orders evil spirits and they obey him!” And Jesus fame spread
throughout all the country of Galilee.
MIERCOLES DE SAN JOSE 16 DE ENERO (MARK 1, 29-39)

Jesus heals many

On leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to the home of Simon and Andrew with James and
John. As Simons mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever, they immediately told him
about her. Jesus went to her and taking her by the hand, raised her up. The fever left her and
she began to wait on them.

That evening at sundown, people brought to Jesus all the sick and those who had evil
spirits: the whole town was pressing around the door. Jesus healed many who had various
diseases, and drove out many demons; but he did not let them speak, for they knew who he
was.

Jesus prayer at night

Very early in the morning, before daylight, Jesus went off to a lonely place where he
prayed. Simon and the others went out, too, searching from him; and when they found him
they said, “Everyone is looking for you” Then Jesus answered, “Lets go to the nearby
villages so that I may preach there too; for that is why I came”.

So Jesus set out to preach in all the synagogues throughout Galilee; he also cast out
demons.
JUEVES 17 DE ENERO (MARK 1, 40-45)

Jesus curer a leper

A leper came to Jesus and begged him, “If you so will, you can make me clean”. Moved
with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean”. The
leprosy left the man at once and he was made clean. As Jesus sent the man away, he sternly
warned him, “Don’t tell anyone about this, but go and show yourself to the priest and for
the cleansing bring the offering ordered by Moses; in this way you will make your
declaration”.

However, as soon as the man went out, he began spreading the news everywhere, so that
Jesus could no longer openly enter any town. But even though he stayed in the rural areas,
people came to him from everywhere.

VIERNES 18 DE ENERO (MARK 2, 1-12)

Jesus forgives and cures a paralytic

After some days Jesus returned to Capernaum. As the news spread that he was at home, so
many people gathered that there was no longer room even outside the door.
While Jesus was preaching the World to them, some people brought a paralyzed man to
him.
The four men who carried him couldn’t get near Jesus because of the crowd, so they
opened the roof above the room where Jesus was and, through the hole, lowered the man on
his mat.
When Jesus saw the faith of these people, he said to the paralytic, “ My son, your sins are
forgiven”.

Now, some teachers of the Law who were sitting there wondered within themselves, “How
can he speak like this insulting God? Who can forgive sins except God?”
At once Jesus Knew through his spirit what they were thinking and asked, “Why do you
wonder? Is it easier to say to this paralyzed man: “Your sins are forgiven, or to say: Rise,
take up your mat and walk? But now you shall know that the Son of Man has authority on
earth to forgive sins”.

And he said to the paralytic, “Stand up, take up your mat and go home” The man rose and,
in the sight of all those people, he took up his mat and went out. All of them were
astonished and praised God saying, “Were have never seen anything like this!”

SABADO 19 DE ENERO (MARK 2, 13-17)

The call of Levi

When Jesus went out again beside the lake, a crowd came to him and he taught them. As he
walked along, he saw a tax collector sitting in his office. This was Levi, the son of Alpheus.
Jesus said to him, “Follow me”. And Levi it so happened that while Jesus was eating in
Levi’s house, tax collectors and sinners were sitting with him and his disciples for there
were indeed many of them. But there were also teacher also teachers of the Law of the
Pharisees party, among those who followed Jesus, and when they saw him eating with
sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why! He eats with tax collectors and
sinners!”
Jesus heard them and answered, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I
did not come to call the righteous but sinners”.

DOMINGO 20 DE ENERO ( JOHN 2, 1-11)

The wedding at Cana

Three days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee and the mother of Jesus was here.
Jesus was also invited to the wedding with his disciples. When all the wine provided for the
celebration had been served and they had run out of wine, the mother of JESUS said to him,
“They have no wine”. Jesus replied, “ Woman, your thoughts are not mine! My hour has
not yet come”.
However his mother said to the servants. “ Do whatever he tells you”
Nearby were six stone water jars meant for the ritual washing as practiced by the Jews;
each jar could hold twenty or thirty gallons. JESUS said to the servants, “Fill the jars with
water”. And they filled them to the brim. Then Jesus said, “Now draw some out and take it
to the steward”. So they did.

The steward tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing from where it had
come; for only the servants who had drawn the water knew. So, he called the bridegroom to
tell him, “Everyone serves the best wine first and when people have drunk enough, he
serves that which is ordinary. Instead you have kept the best wine until the end”.
This miraculous sign was the first, and JESUS performed it at Cana in Galilee . In this way
he let his Glory appear and his disciples believed in him.

LUNES 21 DE ENERO (MARK 2, 18-22)

New Wine, new Skin

One day, when the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees were fasting. Some
people asked JESUS , “Why is it that both the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast,
but yours do not? JESUS answered, “How can the wedding guests fast while the
bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot
fast. But the day will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them and on that day
will fast.
No one sews a piece of new cloth on an old coat, because the new patch will shrink and tear
away from the old cloth, making a worse tear. And no one puts new wine into old
wineskins, for the wine would burst the skins and then both the wine and the skins would
be lost. But new wine, new skins!”

MARTES 22 DE ENERO (MARK 2, 23-28)

One sabbath he was walking through grainfields. As his disciples walked along with him,
they began to pick the heads of grain and crush them in their hands. Then the Pharisees said
to Jesus, “Look! They are doing what is forbidden on the sabbath!”.
And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did in his time of need, when he
and his men were very hungry? He went into the house of God when Abiathar was Hight
Priest and ate the bread of offering, which only the priests are allowed to eat, and he also
gave some to the men who were with him”. Then JESUS said to them, “The sabbath was
made for man, not man for the sabbath. So the Son of Man is master even of the sabbath”.

MIERCOLES 23 DE ENERO (MARK 3, 1-6)

Cure of the man with a withered hand

Again Jesus entered the synagogue. A man who had a paralyzed hand was there and some
people watched JESUS: would he heal the man on the sabbath? If he did they could accuse
him.
JESUS said to the man with the paralyzed hand, “Stand here in the center”. Then he asked
them, “What does the Law allow us to do on the sabbath? To do good or to do harm? To
save life or to kill?” But they were silent.
Then JESUS looked around at them with anger and deep sadness because they had closed
their minds. And he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand”. He stretched it out and his
hand was healed. But as soon as the Pharisees left, they met with Herods supporters,
looking for a way to destroy JESUS.

JUEVES 24 DE ENERO (MARK 3, 7-12)

JESUS and his disciples withdrew to the lakeside and a large crowd from Galilee followed
him. A great number of people also came from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, Transjordan and
from the region of Tyre and Sidon, for they had heard of all that he was doing.
Because of the crowd, JESUS told his disciples to have a boat ready for him, to prevent the
people from crushing him. He healed so many that all who had diseases kept pressing
towards him to touch him. Even the people who had evil spirits, whenever they saw him,
would fall down before him and cry out, “You are the Son of God”. But he warned them
sternly not to tell anyone who he was.

VIERNES 25 DE ENERO (MARK 16, 15-18)

Then he told them, “Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News to all creation.
The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; the one who refuses to believe will be
condemned . Signs like these will accompany those who have believed: in my name they
will cast out demons and speak new languages; they will pick up snakes and, if they drinks
anything poisonous, they will be unharmed. They will lay their hands on the sick and they
will be healed”.

SABADO 26 DE ENERO (MARK 3, 20-21)

The sin against the Spirit

They went home. The crowd began to gather again and they couldn’t even have a meal.
Knowing what was happening his relatives came to take charge of him: “ He is out of his
mind”, the said.

DOMINGO 27 DE ENERO (LUKE 1,1-4); (LUKE 4,14-21);

Several people have set themselves to relate the events that have taken place among us, as
they were told by the first witnesses who later became ministers of the Word.
After I myself had carefully gone over the whole story from the beginning, it seemed right
for me to give you, Theophilus, an ordely account, so that your Excellency may know the
truth of all you have been taught.

JESUS proclaims his mission at Nazareth

Jesus acted with the power of the Spirit, and one his return to Galilee the news about him
spread throughout all that territory. He began teaching in the synagogues of the Jews and
everyone praised him.

When JESUS came to Nazareth where he had been brought up, he entered the synagogue
on the sabbath as he usually did. He stood up to read and they handed him the book of the
prophet Isaiah.

JESUS then unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written:

“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, to
proclaim liberty to captives and new sight to the blind; to free the oppressed and announce
the Lords year of mercy”

Jesus then rolled up the scroll, gave it to the attendant and sat down, while the eyes of all in
the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he said to them, “Today these prophetic words
come true even as you listen”

LUNES 28 DE ENERO (MARK 3, 22-30)

Meanwhile , the teachers of the Law who had come from Jerusalem said, “ He is in the
power of Beelzebul: the chief of the demons helps him to drive out demons”.
JESUS called them to him and began teaching them by means of stories or parables, “How
can Satan drive out Satan? If a nation is divided by civil war, that nation cannot stand. If a
family divides itself into groups, that family will not survive. In the same way, if Satan has
risen against himself and is divided, he will not stand; he is finished. No one can break into
the house of the Strong one in order to plunder his goods, unless he first ties up the Strong
one. Then indeed, he can plunder his house.

Truly, I say to you, every sin will be forgiven humankind, even insults to God, however
numerous. But who ever slanders the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven: he carries the guilt
of his sin forever.

“This was their sin when they said, “He has an evil spirit in him””.

MARTES 29 DE ENERO (MARK 3, 31-35)

JESUS true family

Then his mother and his brothers came. As they stood outside, they sent someone to call
him. The crowd siting around JESUS told him, “ Your mother and your brothers are outside
asking for you”. He replied, “ Who are my mother and my brothers?”
And looking around at those who sat there he said, “ He are my mother and my brothers.
Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to me”.

MIERCOLES 30 DE ENERO (MARK 4, 1-20)

The Sower

Again JESUS began to teach by the lake, but such a large crowd gathered about him that he
got into a boat and sat in it on the lake while the crowd stood on the shore. He taught them
many things through stories or parables. In his teaching he said, “Listen! The sower went
out to sow. As he sowed, some of the seed fell along a path and the birds came and ate it
up. Some of the seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil; it sprang up immediately
because it had no depth; but when the sun rose and burned it, it withered because it had no
roots. Other seed fell among thorn bushes and the thorns grew and choked it, so it didn’t
produce any grain. But some seed fell on good soil, grew and increased and yielded grain;
some produced thirty times as much, others sixty and others one hundred times as much.”
And Jesus added, “Listen then, if you have ears”.
When the crowd went away, some who were around him with the Twelve asked about the
parables.
He answered them, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But for
those outside, everything come in parables, so that the more they see, they don’t perceive;
the more they hear, they don’t understand; otherwise they would be converted and
pardoned”.
JESUS said to them, “ Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand
any of the parables?
What the sower is sowing is the word. Those along the path where the seed fell are people
who hear the word, but as soon as they do, Satan comes and takes away the word that was
sown in them.
Other people receive the word like rocky ground. As soon as they hear the word, they
accept it with joy, but they have no roots so it lasts only a little while. No sooner does
trouble or persecution come because of the word, than they fall.
Others receive the seed as among thorns. After they hear the word, they are caught up in the
worries of this life, false hopes of riches and other desires. All these come in and choke the
word so that finally it produces nothing.
And there are others who receive the word as good soil. They hear the word, take it to heart
and produce: some thirty, some sixty and some one hundred times as much”.

JUEVES 31 DE ENERO (MARK 4, 21-25)

Parable of the lamp

JESUS also said to them, “When the light comes, is it to be put under a tub or a bed? Surely
it is put on a lampstand. Whatever is hidden will be disclosed, and whatever is kept secret
will be brought to light. Listen then, if you have ears!”
And he also said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. In the measure you give, so shall
you receive and still more will be given to you. For to the one who produces something,
more will be given, and from him who does not produce anything, even what he has will be
taken away from him”.

VIERNES 1 DE FEBRERO (MARK 4, 26-34)

The Seed growing by itself

JESUS also said, “In the Kingdom of God it is like this. A man scatters seed upon the soil.
Whether he is asleep or awake, be it day or night, the seed sprouts and grows, he knows not
how. The soil produces of itself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
And when it is ripe for harvesting the sickle for the cutting: the time for harvesting the
sickle for the cutting: the time for harvest has come”.

The mustard seed

JESUS also said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? To what shall we compare it? It is
like a mustard seed which, when sown, is the smallest of all the seeds scattered upon the
soil. But once sown, it grows up and becomes the largest of the plants in the garden and
even grows branches so big that the birds of the air can take shelter in its shade”.
JESUS used many such stories or parables, to proclaim the word to them in a way they
would be able to understand. He would not teach them without parables; but privately to his
disciples he explained everything.
SABADO 2 DE FEBRERO (LUKE 2, 22-40)

JESUS is presented in the Temple

When the day came for the purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought the
baby up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, as it is written in the law of the Lord:
Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to God. And they offered a sacrifice as ordered in
the law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

There lived in Jerusalem at this time a very upright and devout man named Simeon; the
Holy Spirit was in him. He looked forward to the time when the Lord would comfort Israel,
and he had been assured by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Messiah
of the Lord. So he was led in to the temple by the Holy Spirit at the time the parents
brought the child JESUS, to do for him according to the custom of the Law.

Simeon took the child in his arms and blessed God, Saying, “Now, O Lord, you can dismiss
your servant in peace, for you have fulfilled your word and my eyes have seen your
salvation, which you display for all the people too see.
Here is the light you will reveal to the nations and the glory of your people Israel”.
His father and mother wondered at what was said about the child.
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, “See him; he will be for the rise or fall
of the multitudes of Israel. He shall stand as a sign of contradiction, while a sword will
pierce your own soul. Then the secret thoughts of many may be brought to light”.

There was also a prophetess named Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. After
leaving her father’s home, she had been seven years with her husband, and since then she
had been continually about the Temple, serving God as a widow night and day in fasting
and prayer. She was now eighty – four. Coming up at that time, she gave praise to God and
spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem.

When the parents had fulfilled all that was required by the law of the Lord, they returned to
their town, Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew in stature and strength and was filled
with wisdom: the grace of God was upon him.

DOMINGO 3 DE FEBRERO (LUKE 4, 21-30)

Then he said to them, “Today these prophetic words come true even as you listen”.
All agreed with him and were lost in wonder, while he kept on speaking of the grace of
God. Nevertheless they asked, “Who is this but Joseph is son?” So he said, “Doubtless you
will quote me the saying: Doctor, heal yourself! Do here in your town what they say you
did in Capernaum.”

JESUS added, “No prophet is honored in his own country. Truly, I say to you, there were
many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens withheld rain for three years
and six months and a great famine came over the whole land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any
of them, but to a widow of Zarephath, in the country of Sidon.
There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha, the prophet, and no one was
healed except Naaman, the Syrian”.

On hearing these words, the whole assembly became indignant. They rose up and brought
him out of the town, to the edge of the hill on which Nazareth is built, intending to throw
him down the cliff. But he passed through their midst and went his way.

LUNES 4 DE FEBRERO (MARK 5, 1-20)

They arrived on the other side of the lake in the region of the Gerasenes. No sooner did
JESUS leave the boat than he was met by a man with evil spirits who had come from the
tombs. He lived among the tombs and no one could restrain him, even with a chain. He had
often been bound with fetters and chains but he would pull the chains apart and smash the
fetters, and no one had the strength to control him.

Night and day he stayed among the tombs on the hillsides, and was continually screaming
and beating himself with stones.

When he saw JESUS from afar, he ran and fell at his feet and cried with a loud voice,
“What do you want with me, JESUS, son of the Most High God? For God is sake I beg
you, do not torment me.” He said this because JESUS had commanded, “Come out of the
man, evil spirit”. And when JESUS asked him, “what is your name?” he replied, “Legion is
my name, for we are many”.

And all of them kept begging JESUS not to send them out of that region.
Now, a great herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside, and the evil spirits begged him,
“Send us to the pigs and let us go into them”. So JESUS let them go. The evil spirits came
out of the man and went into the pigs, and immediately the herd rushed down the cliff and
all were drowned in the lake.

The herdsmen fled and reported this in the town and in the countryside, so all the people
came to see what had happened.

They came to JESUS and saw the man freed of the evil spirits sitting there, clothed and in
his right mind, the same man who had been possessed by the legion. They were afraid. And
when those who had seen it told what had happened to the man and to the pigs, the people
begged JESUS to leave their neighborhood.

When JESUS was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to stay
with him. JESUS would not let him and said, “Go home to your people and tell them how
much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you”. So he went throughout
the country of Decapolis telling everyone how much JESUS had done for him. And all the
people were astonished.
