ANEXO 1
MEXICO
To make your trip most successful and convenient in Mexico City, we are listing the
following information:
Airport Arrival
Drivers will be at the airport with a BP Big Sign out of the customs area (main exit),
and will take you to the Nikko hotel from the airport.
Office:
Castrol Mexico, S.A. de C.V., Av. Revolución 775, Col. Nonoalco, Mixcoac, 03700
México, D.F.
Hotel:
Language is Spanish. English is not widely understood except in major hotels and
restaurants. Some executives of multinational companies speak English, but
meetings are generally conducted in Spanish. Except for some taxis equipped with
bilingual tourist guides at hotel stands, taxi drivers speak little English.
Taxis Official airport taxis are probably the most convenient way in from the
airport; they're fast and comfortable and cost about $75-$85 Mexican pesos to
almost all the major hotels. Take an official airport taxi, yellow and white in color
and marked with an airplane, after purchasing a ticket from the booth inside the
arrivals area of the terminal, next to baggage claim. Ticket prices are fixed, based
on a zone system. Do not get in an unmarked or independent cab, and avoid
Volkswagen "bug" cabs, as well. Be sure to choose a porter who is uniformed and
wearing a badge to take your bags out to the taxi.
Currency 11.0 Mexican pesos to the U.S. dollar. Exchange rates are generally
about the same, whether you're at the airport or the banks or casas de cambio
(currency exchanges).
Most restaurants and hotels accept major bank cards (and credit cards if you
obtain a PIN prior to travel). Look for machines with Cirrus, Plus, MasterCard and
Visa signs. They dispense pesos at the going rate of exchange. However, don't
rely on just one bank or credit card to obtain cash. Sometimes a card, inexplicably,
won't work in an restaurants and hotels. DINERS cards ARE NOT commonly
ACCEPTED in hotels or restaurants.
Telephone Codes If you're calling Mexico from outside the country, first dial your
country's international access code, then dial Mexico's country code, 52, and then
Mexico City's city code 5. If you're calling Mexico City from another part of Mexico,
dial 01, then 5 and then the phone number. To call the U.S. or Canada from
within Mexico, dial 001 before the area code and phone number; to call other
countries dial 00 before the area code and phone number.
Voltage Mexico's electric voltage is 125 volts at 60 hertz. You won't need a voltage
adapter, unless your equipment is 220 volts.
Tipping At restaurants, add 10% (calculated on the amount before the 15% VAT).
Tip hotel porters about M$15 per person; airport porters expect a little more.
Tipping a taxi driver is not usual.
SECURITY TIPS:
Deposit your valuables in the safe box of the hotel; including passport, visa and
money.
When carrying cash, do not keep more than $500 pesos (US$50.00) with you
and than a credit card.
If you are carrying your laptop, keep it with you all the time.
Mexico City in general is not a safe place to walk alone, you could be exposed
to unsecure situations. Please avoid walking alone.
Water:
Even though tap water at the hotel might be purified, we strongly recommend
you to drink bottled water to avoid any stomach disorder.
Earthquakes:
Once at the hotel and/or room keep away from windows, don’t use elevators, don’t
panic, keep calm, locate a table and put yourself under it to protect you from falling
objects until the earthquake stops, locate emergency exits & follow the instructions
given by the staff of the hotel, or the ones given by the security staff at the office. If
you are on the street, keep away from electric wires or windows and look for an
open space to avoid risks.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
Security will:
If it happens at the hotel, dial Ext. 66, tell the operator what happen and follow the
instructions given.
