casos de electrocución.
Estos son algunos de los temas que usted tendrá la oportunidad de actualizar en el
Seminario.
5. Sea honrado. Todos los aspectos financieros que maneje, deben tener absoluta
claridad desde el principio. No ofrezca ni reciba dineros para lograr una posición
favorable en los negocios.
8. Siga las normas. Cuando se desvíe de ellas, hágalo conocer y tenga claras las
consecuencias. Pero si encuentra propuestas verdaderamente novedosas para la
ingeniería eléctrica, llénese de fe, audacia, coraje y humildad.
12. Sea leal. Mientras trabaje, tendrá clientes. A ellos y a sus amigos sitúelos en
primer lugar.
14. Trate a los demás con calor humano. Atienda con el máximo de cortesía a
sus subalternos, sus homólogos, sus jefes y al público en general.
2. Cuando realice una instalación eléctrica, tenga conciencia que el más leve error
técnico puede ocasionar un accidente.
9. Jamás combine los procedimientos de trabajo de línea viva con los de línea
muerta.
10. Si tiene que hacer una instalación provisional, por favor, que sea provisional.
11. Si a pesar de todas las precauciones ocurre une electrocución, tenga presente
los siguientes pasos:
* Conserve la calma.
* Retire la víctima.
* Verifique los signos vitales.
* Preste los primeros auxilios.
* Traslade al paciente a un centro médico.
Apantallamiento: Elementos metálicos que se instalan alrededor de los dispositivos que se desean
proteger contra los efectos de una perturbación.
Barraje Equipotencial (BE) o Punto de Puesta a Tierra (Ground Busbar o Ground Bar o
Ground Bus): Conductor de tierra colectiva, usualmente una barra de cobre, pero puede ser un cable
de gran longitud.
Carga lineal: Es aquella en donde la forma de onda de la corriente de estado estable, sigue la forma
de onda de la tensión aplicada.
Carga no lineal: Es aquella en donde la forma de onda de corriente de estado estable, no sigue la
forma de onda de la tensión aplicada.
Calidad de la Energía Eléctrica (CEL): Es el grado de conformidad de los indicadores de las señales
electromagnéticas, en un tiempo dado y en un nodo o punto definido, para cumplir con las necesidades
de los consumidores, dentro del marco regulatorio del país.
Circuito en modo común: Es la totalidad de las corrientes de un lazo (o el circuito cerrado) por las
corrientes de modo común. Incluyen el cable, el aparato y las partes cercanas del sistema de puesta a
tierra.
Conductor de puesta a tierra de equipo: Es el conductor usado para conectar partes metálicas,
canalizaciones y gabinetes con la puesta a tierra.
Conductor del electrodo de puesta a tierra: Conductor que es intencionalmente conectado a una
puesta a tierra, desde el neutro, bien sólidamente o a través de una impedancia limitadora de
corriente.
Conector: Dispositivo que une dos o más conductores con el objeto de suministrar un camino
eléctrico continuo.
Confiabilidad: Capacidad de un dispositivo, equipo o sistema para cumplir una función requerida, en
unas condiciones y tiempo dados. Equivale a fiabilidad.
Contacto directo: Es el contacto directo de personas con cualquier parte activa de una instalación
eléctrica.
Contacto indirecto: Contacto de personas con elementos puestos accidentalmente bajo tensión; o el
contacto de personas con cualquier parte activa de una instalación eléctrica a través de un medio
conductor.
Degradación: Es una desviación indeseable en las características de funcionalidad, de algún
dispositivo, equipo o sistema respecto de sus características consideradas como normales.
Disponibilidad: Certeza de que un equipo o sistema sea operable (disponibilidad para uso) en un
tiempo dado. Cualidad para operar normalmente.
Electrodo de Puesta a Tierra (Grounding Electrode): Conductor o grupo de ellos en contacto con
el suelo, para proporcionar una conexión eléctrica con el terreno. Puede ser una varilla, un tubo, una
placa, una cinta o un cable. El más común es el de varilla, que debe ser de 5/8” x 2.4 m como
mínimo.
Interfase: Límite entre dos sistemas o entre dos partes de un mismo sistema, que se define por la
especificación de características apropiadas, usualmente con el propósito de asegurar la compatibilidad
de formatos, de funciones, de señales y de interconexión en el límite. Nota- Una interfase puede
definirse, por ejemplo, en una conexión de clavija y tomacorriente, en la abertura de una antena o
entre capas de un sistema jerárquico.
Lazo de tierra: En un sistema de tierra radial es una trayectoria conductiva indeseable entre dos
cuerpos conductivos que están conectados a una tierra común (único punto).
Puerto: Punto por el que pueden entran las señales en una red o salir de ella. Interfase especifica de
un aparato con el entorno electromagnético.
Puesta a Tierra de Protección: Conjunto de conexión, cable y clavija que se acoplan a un equipo,
para prevenir electrocuciones por contactos con partes metálicas energizadas accidentalmente.
Puesta a Tierra de Servicio: Puesta a tierra que pertenece al circuito normal de corriente; sirve
tanto para condiciones de funcionamiento normal, como de falla. Pueden ser de subestación, de
comunicaciones, de estática, de equipo sensible, de terminales de captación. o requerida por las
disposiciones de los fabricantes de equipo electrónico.
Puesto a Tierra (Grounded): Toda conexión intencional o accidental del sistema eléctrico con un
elemento considerado como una puesta a tierra. Se aplica a todo equipo o parte de una instalación
eléctrica (neutro, centro de estrella de transformadores o generadores, carcasas, incluso una fase para
sistemas en delta, etc.), que posee una conexión intencional o accidental con un elemento considerado
como puesta a tierra.
Resistencia de puesta a tierra: Es la relación entre la tensión aplicada entre dos puntos y la
intensidad resultante. Los dos puntos corresponden a la puesta a tierra a medir y un punto lo
suficientemente alejado para mantener su tensión constante cuando por la puesta a tierra circula una
intensidad.
Riesgo: Condición ambiental o humana cuya presencia o modificación puede producir un accidente o
una enfermedad ocupacional. Probabilidad de que en una actividad, se produzca una pérdida o
ganancia determinada, en un tiempo dado.
Sistema derivado independiente: Sistema de alambrado de una instalación, cuya energía procede
de una batería, sistema solar fotovoltaico o del bobinado de un generador, transformador o convertidor
y que no tiene conexión directa, ni siquiera mediante un conductor del circuito sólidamente puesto a
tierra (neutro), para alimentar los conductores que proceden de otro sistema.
Sistema de Protección Externa (SPE): Es el conjunto comprendido por los terminales de captación,
las bajantes, el sistema de puesta a tierra, conectores herrajes y otros, cuya función es captar las
descargas y llevarlas a tierra en forma segura.
Sistema de Protección Interna (SPI): Conjunto de dispositivos y técnicas para reducir las
sobretensiones transitorias que se pueden presentar al interior de una instalación.
Sistema derivado independiente: Sistema de cableado de una zona, cuya energía procede de una
batería, sistema solar fotovoltaico o del bobinado de un generador, transformador o convertidor y que
no tiene conexión galvánica entre el sistema a alimentar y del que procede.
Sistema Integral de Protección Contra Rayos (SIPRA): Aquel sistema con el que se puede
alcanzar un alto grado de seguridad, mediante la combinación de varios subsistemas como SPE, SPI,
SPT y acciones preventivas respecto a las personas.
Sobretensión: Tensión anormal entre dos puntos del sistema, que es mayor que el valor máximo
presentado entre los mismos dos puntos bajo condiciones de servicio normal.
Suelo Artificial (Artificial Soil): Compuesto preparado industrialmente, de baja resistividad, para
potenciar la conductividad de un electrodo enterrado.
Suelo o Terreno (Soil): Capa de productos de meteorización, llena de vida, que se encuentra en el
límite entre la roca inerte de la corteza y la atmósfera.
Telurómetro: Nombre en castellano del equipo diseñado para medición de resistividad y resistencia
de sistemas de puesta a tierra. Sus principales características son: frecuencia, potencia, alarma,
detección de corrientes espurias y margen de error.
Terminal de captación: elemento metálico cuya función es interceptar los rayos que podrían
impactar directamente sobre la instalación a proteger. Comúnmente se conoce como pararrayos.
Tierra (Ground o Earth): Para sistemas eléctricos, es una expresión que generaliza todo lo referente
a sistemas de puesta a tierra. En temas eléctricos se asocia a suelo, terreno, tierra, masa, chasis,
carcasa, armazón, estructura o tubería de agua. El término “masa” solo debe utilizarse para aquellos
casos en que no es el suelo, como en los aviones, los barcos y los carros.
Tierra de Referencia: Barraje interno de los equipos electrónicos, que fija el potencial de referencia
cero para sus circuitos internos. También se conoce como tierra lógica.
Tierra Remota: Sistema de puesta a tierra lejano, respecto al sistema considerado, para el cual se
asume que su potencial es cero y que no causa interferencia.
Tomacorrientes con Polo a Tierra: Son aquellos con una tercera clavija que hace el primer
contacto eléctrico al conectar el equipo. Algunos vienen con la tierra unida a la caja y otros con la
tierra aislada (para equipos sensibles).
Transitorio (Surge): Designa un fenómeno o una cantidad que varía entre dos estados consecutivos
durante un intervalo de tiempo corto comparado con la escala de tiempo de interés.
Zonificación: Es el método por el cual se determinan unos volúmenes de una instalación en donde se
deben cumplir las mismas condiciones electromagnéticas para los dispositivos, equipos o sistemas y
definen los puntos de equipotencialización en las fronteras de la zona.

Clases de accidentes con origen eléctrico: Rayos, contactos directos (fase- fase,
fase-neutro, fase-tierra); contactos indirectos (inducción, contacto con masa
energizada, tensión de paso, tensión de contacto, tensión transferida); irradiaciones
e incendios.
Individuo tipo “A”: Toda aquella persona que lleva conductores eléctricos que
terminan en el corazón. Para este tipo de paciente, se considera que la corriente
máxima segura es de 80 microamperios.
Individuo tipo “B”: Aquellos que están en contacto con equipos eléctricos y que no
llevan conductores al corazón. Se estima como máxima corriente segura, 24 mA.
Una persona sobrevive más fácil a una descarga por encima de 3 amperios que a
una de 0.1 amperios.
Lo mismo que en los casos de ahogamiento, el método más eficaz para dar
primeros auxilios es la respiración boca a boca y el masaje cardíaco.

* Tenga presente que la resistencia del cuerpo humano es de sólo 1000 ohmios.

puede necesitar para rescatar a alguien.

Los paises situados en la zona de confluencia intertropical, presentan las más altas
actividades eléctricas atmosféricas del mundo. Debe tenerse claro entonces, que
los métodos de protección contra rayos implementados en otras latitudes
(especialmente las tierras), no necesariamente se aplican en la zona ecuatorial. A
continuación se presentan algunas propuestas de especificaciones técnicas
relacionadas con esta temática.
Bajantes: Se dejarán dos bajantes como mínimo, en cable desnudo calibre No. 2
AWG y por la parte externa de la torre o edificio. Se busca el manejo de los dos
parámetros críticos, como son la corriente máxima y la pendiente máxima. Las
magnitudes de corriente de rayo encontradas en Colombia son del orden de 60 kA y
el di/dt pasa de 100 kA/ µs. En el caso de edificios, se instalarán como mínimo dos
bajantes hasta 25 m, la fijación mecánica a fachadas se hará en tubería metálica
galvanizada. Para la fijación a torres, se establecen dos métodos: cuando la torre
sea en ángulo, con conectores mecánicos de tornillo y para montantes tubulares,
con cinta “band it”. En ambos casos se fijarán cada tres metros.
Cajas de Inspección: Se dejará como mínimo una por cada sistema de puesta a
tierra. Se construirá con base en tubos de gres de 10” x 50 cm, con entrada lateral
o cajas cuadradas en concreto de 0.3 x 0.3 m o circulares de 0.3 m de diámetro. La
tapa debe construirse en concreto o lámina corrugada, con una manija para poderla
levantar.
Centros de Computo: Se construirá una malla de alta frecuencia del tamaño del
piso con una de estas tres formas: Con cintas de cobre, con cables o con la

Los electrodos tipo varilla, que son los más utilizados, se pueden enterrar en
diversos tamaños, con un máximo de 6m, pero en todo caso será de cobre sólido o
con recubrimiento electrolítico de 250µm y como mínimo de 5/8”x 2.4 m.
* Suelo clase A: Suelos blandos ácidos, con resistividad menor de 200 Ω-m
* Suelo clase B1: Suelos arenosos secos, con resistividad entre 500 y 1000 Ω-m
* Suelo clase B2: Suelos arenosos secos, con resistividad entre 1000 y 2000 Ω-m
* Suelo clase C1: Suelos rocosos con resistividad menor de 1000 Ω-m
* Suelo clase C2: Suelos rocosos con resistividad mayor de 1000 Ω-m
Medición del Sistema de Puesta a Tierra: Como parte del control de calidad del
sistema de puesta a tierra se harán mediciones de resistencia de puesta a tierra de
cada sitio, con telurómetro de más de 1000 Hz, 20 kW y precisión de 0.01
empleando algunos de los métodos aceptados por la ingeniería. Para los casos de
mejoramiento, se hará antes y después del proceso.

En sistemas eléctricos para industrias que manejen procesos continuos, donde las
pérdidas por una interrupción son elevadas, se emplea sistema con neutro aislado o
aterrizado a través de una alta resistencia.
Para sistemas ya construidos sin neutro (delta o estrella con neutro flotante) se
emplean autotransformadores trifásicos, conectados en zig zag, del tipo seco y

Absorción: Atracción de una sustancia sólida sobre un fluido, de modo que las
moléculas de éste penetren en ella. Tiene gran influencia, por ser la conductividad
en los suelos de tipo iónica con electrolitos.
Compactación y presión del suelo: Un suelo más compacto presenta una mayor
continuidad física, lo que en principio facilita una mejor conductividad, siempre y
cuando se llegue a las capas de menor resistividad. Por lo anterior es recomendable
esperar un cierto tiempo después de hecha la instalación para realizar la medición
oficial de su resistencia.

Solubilidad: Si se agrega un cristal de una sal u otra sustancia al agua, los dipolos
de ésta ejercen fuerzas de atracción sobre los iones, obligando al cristal a romperse
y sus moléculas a ionizarse. Cuando esto ocurre se dice que dicha sustancia tiene
solubilidad en agua. Si el agua contiene ácido carbónico (lo más común) la
solubilidad aumenta, como en los países tropicales. Diferentes sustancias presentan
mayor o menor solubilidad en agua, algunas son muy solubles como el NaCl y otras
son insolubles como CaCO3. Las sustancias insolubles en agua son solubles en otra
clase de solventes.
Temperatura del suelo: Este factor influye sobre la velocidad del movimiento de
los iones. Una temperatura elevada (cerca de los 100 )C provoca evaporación,
disminuyendo la humedad del suelo y aumentando la resistividad. Por otro lado, al
considerar que la resistividad del suelo es sensiblemente influenciada por el agua
contenida en éste y que el agua posee un alto coeficiente negativo de temperatura,
es un hecho que la resistividad tiende a crecer para temperaturas menores a 0ºC.

MEDICIÓN DE EQUIPOTENCIALIDAD
Hacer anillos alrededor de las torres: Práctica muy recomendada por el sector
de comunicaciones pero con pobre respuesta ante altas frecuencias. Estos anillos en
cable o alambre se hacen normalmente como complemento a los contrapesos y su
efectividad sigue estando ligada a la conexión efectiva con la tierra.
Utilizar electrodos químicos: Este tipo de electrodos se usa desde 1987. Son
tubos perforados rellenos de sales, que han demostrado su gran efectividad inicial y
su corta vida útil.
Con tierra negra: Bajo la falsa creencia que el color del suelo determina la
resistividad, se emplea este artificio sin garantía alguna. Además es difícil de
mantener donde no hay una capa de suelo vegetal natural (terrenos rocosos). Ver el
ejemplo real de resistividad en un suelo negro y húmedo en el Capítulo III.
