Análisis de necesidades:
¿En esta sección qué área o habilidad, tema o estructura, necesito trabajar para desarrollar mis
competencias lingüísticas en el aprendizaje del idioma inglés? ¿Qué me cuesta trabajo?
Voy a trabajar en la habilidad escrita y en la pronunciación de preguntas sobre información personal del
lugar y fecha de nacimiento de las personas con las que me interesa entablar una conversación. Me cuesta
tener una conversación fluida pero ya estoy repasando.

Meta: ¿Qué quiero saber hacer cuando cubra los contenidos de esta sección?
Quiero poder formar y pronunciar oraciones para dar información sobre donde estoy o estuve, sobre donde
nací y pasé partes de mi vida y en qué fecha lo hice, además de poder preguntar la misma información a
otras personas para poder mantener una conversación.

TEMA/ESTRUCTURA THERE WAS / THERE WERE


THERE IS = HAY/Existe en singular y THERE ARE = HAY/Existe en plural,
ambas formas en Presente Simple. Sirven para hablar sobre la existencia de cosas, animales
o personas. La forma de pasado de THERE IS es THERE WAS y la forma de pasado de
THERE ARE es THERE WERE (plural).

Ejemplos:

 Today, in my hometown there is a big park on the corner of Main Street and Oak Avenue.
 There is a cathedral and there are two supermarkets on Alamo Road.
 In the past there was a big movie theater.
 There were three theaters behind the baseball stadium, now there is only one.

TEMA/ESTRUCTURA AÑOS (FECHAS)

Years are normally divided into two parts; the first two digits and the last two digits.
1984 is divided into 19 and 84, so you would say nineteen eighty-four. Examples:

1852 = Eighteen fifty two

1920 = Nineteen twenty

If the third digit is zero, we can say:

1407: fourteen oh seven

1901: nineteen oh one

How to say the years after 2000


For the year 2000 you say (the year) two thousand + number. Examples:

2015 = Two thousand fifteen or Two thousand and fifteen.

2007 = Two thousand seven or Two thousand and seven.

When a year ends in 00 (e.g. 1600) then the year is said as the digits before 00 and then
hundred. Examples:

1300 = thirteen hundred

1700 = seventeen hundred

1800 = eighteen hundred

When people refer to the entire century, an S is added to the end. Examples:

The 1500s = the fifteen hundreds (=1500-1599)

The 1800s = the eighteen hundreds (=1800-1899)

Of course you can also say the 15th century and 18th century.

PREPOSITIONS

When we are talking about dates we have to use certain prepositions

We use in with the year

I was born in 1999.

We use in with the month.

I was born in August.

We use on with the complete date.

I was born on 12th May, 2000.

WHERE, WHEN … EN PASADO
Forming a WH- question

WH- questions (using words such as "what", "when" and "where") are also created by
putting the auxiliary did before the subject (past tense of the verb BE before the
subject). Then, you add the WH- word at the beginning. Here are some examples:

 What did you do yesterday? (did before the subject)


 Where were you last month? (past tense of the verb BE before the subject)

Example:
"John lived in Victoria. (where)"
Answer: "Where did John live?".

STEVE JOBS

Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco in 1955. He wasadopted


at birth by Paul and Clare Jobs. His father was American and worked
as mechanic and carpenter. His mother was an Armenian American
accountant. He became interested in computers when he was a
teenager and attended lectures after school at Hewlett Packard. In
1974, Jobs got a job as a technician at the video game maker Atari.
He saved enough money to backpack around India and then returned
to Atari, where he met Steve Wozniak, a friend who shared the same
interests in computers and electronics.

Jobs and Wozniak were the founders of Apple Inc. In 1976 Jobs persuaded Wozniak to make
a computer and sell it. Together, they developed the Mac. It was the first small computer with
a user-friendly interface to be commercially successful. He developed a passion for style and
functional perfection, which became Apple trademarks. The introduction of the iMac and other
innovative products like the iPod, iPhone, iTunes and iPad made Apple a powerful brand.

Jobs was also a chief executive at Pixar Animation Studios and a member of the Walt Disney
Company. He created Oscar-winning movies such as ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Finding Nemo’. Jobs’
advice for success is: “You’ve got to find what you love." He died in October 2011 when he was
56.

My name is Martin and I was born on August 31, 2001 in Cancun Quintana Roo. I lived there for
a couple of years and moved to Acayúcan, Veracruz, where I started kindergarten at the age of
3, I really don't remember the name of the kindergarten or my friends, but I remember that at 6
years old I started primary school at " Joséfa Ortiz de Dominguez ", in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz,
where I met Miguel, a very short, thin person with long hair. He was fun and we always did
mischief together.
