pasado simple, “when y while” señalan el uso del pasado simple y continuo.
“when” y el pasado continuo después de “while”
Ejemplos:

He was walking to school when he fell: Él estaba caminando hacia la escuela cuando se cayó.

Peter was reading a book yesterday evening.

ejemplo:

Anne was writing a letter while Steve was reading the New York limes.
