que las hacen ser diferentes unas de otras; estas son: tristeza, miedo, asco, sorpresa,
alegría y enojo (Ekman & Friesen, 1971).
La sobrestimación del tiempo se ha investigado que ocurre cuando es percibida una cara
de enojo (Gil, Niedenthal & Droit-Volet, 2007), de miedo (Droit-Volet et al., 2010) y de
felicidad (Effron et al., 2006). Por otra parte, la subestimación se ha observado que ocurre
en la expresión facial de vergüenza (Gil & Droit-Volet, 2011); mientras que la emoción
básica de asco no tiene distorsión del tiempo (Gil & Droit-Volet, 2009). Estas variaciones
en la percepción del tiempo se han asociado a la función adaptativa de cada emoción, así
como con el nivel de activación o arousal que produce la emoción, mientras que haya un
mayor nivel de activación se producirá una sobrestimación del tiempo y a un menor nivel
de activación se producirá una subestimación del tiempo (Effron et al., 2006; Gil & Droit-
Volet, 2011; Gil, Niedenthal & Droit-Volet, 2007).
La percepción del tiempo es una función importante que se involucra en todo momento
de nuestra vida de manera implícita por lo que es difícil su disociación de otros procesos
