JOHN DOWLAND
A diferencia del laúd medieval, el cuerpo del laúd renacentista era un poco
más alargado y menos redondeado, constituido por un número de siete a
once costillas. Los primeros tenían seis ordenes, pero hacia finales del 1500
se le agregó una séptima, luego una octava, una novena y hasta una décima
cuerda. El primer orden se usaba simple y el resto eran cuerdas dobles.
Podían afinar por octavas desde el cuarto orden, también desde el quinto o
sexto. Otras veces solo con unísonos.
Biografía
Publicado por Thomas Est en 1592, The Whole Booke of Psalmes contenía
obras de 10 compositores, incluidas 6 piezas de Dowland.
The New Booke of Tabliture fue publicado por William Barley en 1596.
