PLURAL FORM.
La formación del plural en lengua inglesa, es bastante sencilla, pues a la mayoría de los sustantivos se les
añade la letra “s”. Por ejemplo: book, books. Otros nombres tienen plural regular pero sufren algunas
variaciones en cuanto a la forma general:

1. Los nombres o sustantivos que terminan en ch, s, ss, sh, x, se les agrega “es” . Ej: bus-buses.
2. Cuando el sustantivo termina en “y” precedida de consonante, se cambia la “y” por “i” y se
agrega “es”. Ej. Hobby – hobbies.
3. Si el sustantivo termina en “f” o en “fe”, al pasar a plural se transforma por “ves”. Ej: knife -
knives.
4. A los sustantivos terminados en “o” se les agrega “s” . Ej: piano – pianos. A unos pocos
nombres terminados en “o” se les agrega “es” como por ejemplo tomato – tomatoes, potato –
potatoes, hero – heroes.

PLURALES IRREGULARES:
Se dividen en dos tipos:
1. Los que poseen una sola forma para el singular y el plural. Ejemplo: this fish (este pez) - these fish
(estos peces). That sheep (esa oveja) - those sheep (esas ovejas).

2. Los que en lugar de agregar la letra “s”, cambian parcial o totalmente. Ejemplos:
Person - people
Man - men woman - women child - children
Mouse - mice tooth - teeth foot - feet

REMEMBER:

Algunos sustantivos solo tienen plural. Ejemplo: pijamas (pijama, pijamas), trousers (pantalón,
pantalones), shorts (pantalón (es) corto(s))

Los nombre compuestos que solo incluyen sustantivos de plural irregular, como man por ejemplo,
mantienen la irregularidad, ejemplo: postman - postmen. En cambio el de brother-in-law, será
brothers-in-law.

Existen palabras que terminan en “s” pero que son singulares y por tanto, irán acompañadas de un verbo
en singular. Ej: Mathematics is difficult subject. (las matemáticas son una asignatura difícil).
