Este verbo, al igual que el verbo to be, es un auxiliar; es decir, hace la negacin y la interrogacin por s solo, como puedes observar en la tabla anterior.

El genitivo sajn -'s

Adems de los adjetivos posesivos, hay otras maneras de indicar posesin o pertenencia. Una de ellas es el genitivo. El genitivo sajn consiste en aadir un apstrofo seguido de una ese (s) a un sustantivo. Esta combinacin es equivalente a la preposicin espaola 'de' y expresa una relacin entre el poseedor y lo que posee. El orden de los elementos en esta estructura es el siguiente: en primer lugar nombramos el poseedor, al que aadimos s, y a continuacin, ponemos el nombre de aquello que posee. Entre el genitivo (-s) y el objeto posedo no se utilizan artculos ni otros determinantes. Este caso suele usarse slo cuando el poseedor es una persona, no un objeto. Patrick's sister goes to school. His wife's name is quite long. My father's job is very interesting. James's nephew has a big dog.

Si el poseedor es un sustantivo en plural acabado en ese (s), suele ponerse slo el apstrofo (). The boys' school is far away. My parents' house has twenty windows.

Sustantivos en plural

Para formar el plural de un sustantivo generalmente se aade una 's' al singular: Ejemplos: day days window windows house houses

Hay otros sustantivos que aaden '-es' o que cambian la ortografa: Ejemplos: kiss kisses fly flies cargo cargoes wife wives

Reglas para formar el plural:


1. Aadiremos '-es' a los sustantivos acabados en -o, -ss, -ch, -sh, -s, y -x Nota: Los sustantivos acabados en '-o' de origen extranjero aaden directamente la '-s' Piano pianos Kimono kimonos

2. Los sustantivos acabados en -y precedida de consonante eliminan la -y y aaden -ies. country countries Nota: Si la -y va precedida de vocal, aade directamente la -s. Ejemplo: toy toys

3. La mayora de los sustantivos acabados en -f o -fe hacen el plural en -ves. half halves wife wives

4. Hay sustantivos que hacen el plural de manera irregular. Es decir, no aaden la -s. Ox oxen tooth teeth louse lice
