Uso still, yet y already en Inglés

Still = todavía – una acción que continua

Yet = ya / todavía (se usa principalmente en preguntas y negaciones). En una pregunta, la palabra
de yet se traduce por “ya” y en una negación es más bien “todavía”.

Already = ya… o antes de lo esperado (se usa en afirmaciones y preguntas)

Estas tres palabras se usan mucho con el presente perfecto, pero también se pueden usar con otros
tiempos verbales – por ejemplo, still funciona muy bien con presente simple o continuo porque
habla de acciones que siguen.

Ejemplos:

I’m still eating. = Todavía estoy comiendo.

I still haven’t eaten. = Todavía no he comido.

I’ve already eaten. = Ya he comido.

I haven’t eaten yet. = No he comido todavía.

Have you eaten yet? = ¿Ya has comido?

Have you already eaten? = ¿Ya has comido?

Yet en preguntas y negaciones

Has she found a job yet?

The bus hasn’t left yet.

I haven’t called the doctor yet.

Have you finished your homework yet?

Has he gone to sleep yet?

Have you called the doctor yet?

Already = ya, antes de lo esperado

She’s already found a job.

The bus has already left.

I’ve already called the doctor.

I’ve already finished my homework.

He’s already gone to sleep.

Have you already called the doctor?

Este último expresa, quizá, sorpresa que hayas llamado antes de lo esperado.
Still = todavía, acción que continua

I’m still waiting for the bus.

The bus still hasn’t come.

I’m still working on my homework.

I still haven’t finished my homework.

She’s still looking for a job.

He’s still asleep.

I’m still waiting for the doctor to call me back.

Cómo usar still en preguntas, anymore en negaciones

Se puede usar still en preguntas, para saber si una acción o una situación continua. En negaciones
se usa más bien anymore, que llega a significar algo como “ya no”.

Q: Do you still live with Maria?

A: No, she doesn’t live in Barcelona anymore.

Q: Is she still going out with Tom?

A: No, they’re not together anymore. They broke up a couple of months ago.

Q: Are you still planning on going to Prague?

A: Not anymore. Actually, I don’t think I have enough money to go on holiday.
