Expectations:
We have high expectations for all students who walk through our door. The goal while in any class is for
everyone to be successful. It is necessary for all students to put forth their very best effort and exhibit a
high level of respect and self-discipline in each class everyday. This will promote and foster a positive
place where all students can work to their fullest potential.
Classroom Rules:
1. Follow all school rules - student code of conduct.
2. Bring ALL required materials to class daily.
3. Gum, candy, food, and drinks are not allowed.
4. Positively contribute to the learning environment each day.
Consequences:
Students who do not adhere to the classroom rules will be assigned detention and/or parent will be
contacted. Serious problems will be referred to the office for further action.
Homework Policy:
Homework helps establish study habits that are essential for students as they progress in school.
Providing your child with a quiet, well-lit area to work may help to ensure more success with
assignments. Setting aside a designated time to complete homework each day will also help in keeping
students organized and up to date with assignments.
Students are to submit homework on assigned days. Homework will be graded on a credit/ no credit
basis. Homework does not formulate a student’s academic grade; rather it is included towards their “Life
Skills” grade.
All homework assignments must include the proper heading (name, subject, period and date).
Parents/guardians are encouraged to assist students with homework; however the homework should
always reflect the student’s skill level. Homework not completed at home will be completed during
nutrition, lunch and/or after school.
Grades – Academic vs. Life Skills categories:
Grading is based upon a 4 point grading scale, as described below.

8/7/2018 6th grade team Syllabus (Final NEW).docx - Google Docs
The Academic grade is formulated based on student assessments, both formative and summative. That is
quizzes, test, school benchmarks and projects.
The Life Skills grade is composed of homework, participation during group activities, class-work and
class discussions.
Absence/Make-Up Work Procedure:
Upon returning to school following an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher to
request make-up work. The student must complete make up work within the allotted time specified by the
teacher. Make-up work submitted late may receive a lower grade.
Math Course Description:

civilizaciones occidentales y no occidentales.
