Se realizó un estudio cuyo objetivo fue relacionar los hallazgos radiográficos y funcionales del
sistema respiratorio en pacientes prequirúrgicos usuarios de hookah, del hospital Traumatológico Dr.
Ney Arias Lora, en el periodo enero-abril 2019. De tipo observacional, descriptivo, de corte
transversal y fuente de datos primaria. La población estuvo constituida por todos los pacientes
prequirúrgicos usuarios de hookah, del hospital Traumatológico Dr. Ney Arias Lora y la muestra fue
constituida por 46 pacientes que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, fueron seleccionados por
método probabilístico. Se obtuvieron los datos mediante una encuesta realizada en las consultas
prequirúrgicas de los especialistas de neumología. La edad que predominó con un 37% fue de 18-
25 años junto con el sexo más frecuente que fue el masculino con un 78% de la población. Se
evidenció que un 25% de los pacientes usaban la hookah semanalmente, también que un 65% de
estos la han estado usando en un intervalo de tiempo de 1-5 años. La sustancia que más refirieron
añadir a la hookah fue el alcohol, representando un 42%. Se encontró que sólo un 22% presentó
alguna comorbilidad, el asma fue la que más refirieron, en las radiografías de tórax el hallazgo que
predomino fue rectificación costal, representando un 32%, en la espirometría un 48% presentó un
patrón restrictivo y un 26% presentó un patrón obstructivo, un 57% presento alteraciones tanto en la
radiografía como en la espirometría junto con un 13% que no presento alteraciones en ninguna
prueba. Basándonos en los resultados obtenidos se concluyó que sí hubo relación entre las pruebas
de radiografías de tórax y de espirometrías en la mayoría de los pacientes, usurarios de hookah.

ABSTRAC
A study was carried out whose objective was to relate the radiographic and functional findings of
the respiratory system in presurgical patients who are hookah users, from the Dr. Ney Arias Lora
Traumatological Hospital, in the period January-April 2019. Observational, descriptive, cross-
sectional type and primary data source. The population was constituted by all the pre-surgical patients
who were users of hookah, from Dr. Ney Arias Lora Traumatological and the sample consisted of 46
patients who met the inclusion criteria, were selected by probabilistic method. The data was obtained
through a survey carried out in the presurgical consultations of pneumology specialists. The age that
predominated with 37% was 18-25 years, along with the most frequent sex, which was male with 78%
of the population. It was evidenced that 25% of the patients used hookah weekly, also that 65% of
them have been using it in a time interval of 1-5 years. The substance that most referred to add to
the hookah was alcohol, representing 42%. It was found that only 22% had some comorbidity, asthma
was the most reported, on chest radiographs the finding that predominated was costal rectification,
representing 32%, in spirometry 48% presented a restrictive pattern and 26 % presented an
obstructive pattern, 57% presented alterations in both radiography and spirometry together with 13%
that did not present alterations in any test. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that there
was a relationship between chest radiographs and spirometry tests in the majority of patients, hookah
users.
