LIQUID MIXERS

Mechanical mixing and flocculation of chemicals with water, sewage or industrial liquids by Link-
Belt Straightline mixers is economical and efficient. Straightline mixers are ruggedly built for long,
continuous and trouble-free service. The three types of mixers illustrated can be adapted to suit
local requirements.

Link-Belt P.I.V variable speed drives can be used to provide positive and variable mixing rates.

FLASH MIXERS

Link-Belt Straightline flash mixers are designed for rapid and thorough mixing of chemicals with
liquids, by means of a large, efficient four-blade propeller which operates without underwater
bearings. Two or more propellers can be installed on the same shaft, with an underwater bearing,
at installations where the mixing tanks are exceptionally deep in comparison with the horizontal
area.
Four rates of mixing are obtained by reversing the motor and adjusting the Vortex baffle, so that
operational costs can be kept to a minimum. In batch mixing, the flash mixer can be stopped and
the tank used for settling the solids. At continuous flow plants, rapid mixing must be followed an
efficient, gentle, slow mixing to produce the maximum size floc.

VERTICAL SLOW MIXERS

Link-Belt Straightline vertical slow mixers will provide efficient mixing and flocculation where
vertical flow in square tanks is desired. At small plants one tank may be ………………lled while at
larger plants a series of two, three or four tanks may be used. Each mixer can be driven by its two
drive or a single drive with a countershaft can be used to operate a series of mixers. By suitable
gearing, a decreasing rate of mixing through the series can be pro……..ed. The peripheral speed of
the mixers can also be ……….. from 0.6 to 1.2 feet per second by using P.I.V ……………..lable speed
drives, and thus obtain variable mixing ………..es as required to produce the best floc.

HORIZONTAL SLOW MIXERS

………….. rectangular tanks where horizontal flow is desired the Straightline slow mixer will give the
most efficient ……….. at minimum cost. The degree of mixing can be ……………….ced as the liquid
flows through the tank by decreasing the number and changing the pith of the paddles. The
…………. of mixing can also be varied by P.I.V. variable speed …………….. that the peripheral speed of
the paddles will be between 0.6 and 1.2 feet per second.
At sewage and industrial waste treatment plants, the bottoms of the tanks may be rounded to
prevent the settling of solids which may become septic. Septicity is usually not a problem at water
treatment plants and therefore square bottom corners with fillets can be used at these
installations.

Both the vertical and horizontal slow mixers are constructed with solid steel shafts, steel angle
arms and redwood paddles.
Liquid Clarification

For liquid Clarification, and handling of the separated solids, Chain Belt Company provides time-
proven equipment and processes. These are utilized widely in sewage treatment, water treatment,
and trede-wastes treatment (recovey or dispoal). Supplementing its standardized designs and
many installations are laboratories for research and development, technical ability and
background in equipment designs and process analysis, extensive and efficient manufacturing
facilities for precision workmanship, and experienced field men for supervision of installation, and
field tests.

Chain Belt Engieers have designed and furnished liquid-clarification equipment for all types and
sizes of plants from the largest to the smallest, in this country and abroad. This has resulted in
standardized lines of light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment for every condition. Small plants
can obtain equipment that is just as efficient and durable as its larger prototypes, but not
unnecessarily heavy nor expensive. All Rex Liquid Clarificacion Equipment and Processes are time
proven by large numbers of successful installations. Dara will be furnished upon application.

Sewage Treatment

Rex Slo-Mixers are used in water- or waste- treatment processes where addition of chemicals is
necessary. They provide the many recognized advantages of the Langelier process of multi-stage
flocculation. The value of multi-stage, slow mixers in mixing basins has been widely demonstrated,
not only in laboratory tests, but by extensive operating experience in a large number of plant
installations. Once installed, Rex Slo-Mixers quickly pay for themselves through greater saving of
chemicals, improved mixing, and increased ovierall plant efficiency.

Rex Slo-Mixers provide just the right turbulence for maximum floc formation. Yet-by decreasing
this turbulence progressively as the floc size increases-this dilicate, maximum flox is preserved
until the settling basin is reached. This progressively decreasing turbulence is accomplished by
reducing the paddle speed, paddle area, or both.

Paddles are installed with the direction of rotation at right angles to the flow of the liquid. This
coupled with the use of an ingenious baffle arrangement-assures positive mixing, elimination of
short-circuiting, and a minimum of power consumption (see center illustration)

Rex Slo-Mixers are installed in rectangular tanks which lend themselves to ready and economical
combining with plant structures. A plurality of units, either in a single basin or in several basins
providing flexibility of operation-can be efficiently grouped, with resultant savings in both
construction and operating costs.

Rex Slo-Mixers can be combined in economical grouping with rectangular settling tanks to provide
an inexpensive, compact arrangement. Existing basins—which now use the obsolete, over-and-
under baffles- can easily be remodeled to use the modern Rex Slo-Mixers. Although a tank ratio-
length to width-of about 5 to one is desirable, Rex Slo-Mixers can be installed in practically any
shape basins.

Rex Flash-Mixers (see left side of top illustration) provide a double mixing motion, combining slow
rotation with rapid top-to-bottom turnover. Outstanding characteristics include thoroughness and
speed of mixing, rugged design wit corre-sponding long life, economy of operation, ease of
application, and quit operation.
