Resumen
Esta investigacirfn revisa el conorimiento uparial humano tn los ambientes cotidianos y reales.
Los estudios relativos a mapas cognitivos se organizan en dnco categorlas emplriras: edad,
familiaridad, sexo, dase-cultura y componentes fisicos del ambiente. Se discuttn las cuestiones
metodolrfgicas y conapt~~ales en los traba.fos sobre el conocimiento ambiental, enfatizando los
problemas con las metodologlas que utilizan el dibu.Jo de mapas cognitivos. En particular se
observa una falta de integracirfn entre Ia investigacirfn cognitiva pertinente y los trabojos de Ia
psicologla ambiental sobre mapas cognitivos. Fino/mente se discute Ia aplicadrfn potendal de los
lrabojos de conocimiento ambiental a Ia arquitectura, el diseiio urbanlstico y Ia educacion.
