Superlative

El superlativo se usa cuando queremos expresar la calidad de un adjetivo en su más alto grado.
No hay comparaciones con otros seres, ya que la intención es intensificar una cierta
característica.

Ex.:

- Mark is the smartest man I’ve ever met. - (Mark es el hombre más inteligente que he
conocido.)

- It is the smallest dog I’ve ever seen! So cute! - (¡Es el perro más pequeño que he visto!
¡Muy lindo!)

- São Paulo is the largest city of Brazil. - (São Paulo es la ciudad más grande de Brasil.)
Para adjetivos con tres o más sílabas, se debe seguir la forma:

the most + adjetivo

Ex.:

- Mary is the most intelligent girl of our class. - (Mary es la chica más inteligente de nuestra
clase.)

- Gisele Bündchen is the most beautiful model of the world. - (Gisele Bündchen es la modelo
más bella del mundo.)

- You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my whole life. - (Eres la mujer más
hermosa que he visto en toda mi vida.)

- John is the most important person in my life. – (John es la persona más importante en mi
vida.)
Para adjetivos con una o dos sílabas, debe usar:

the + adjetivo con est

Ex.:

- We are the smartest students in the whole town, no doubt about it. - (Somos los estudiantes
más inteligentes de toda la ciudad, sin duda.)

- This car is the cheapest of this store. - (Este auto es el más barato de esta tienda.)

- Susan is the tallest girl in her family. She can play volleyball. - (Susan es la niña más alta
de su familia. Ella puede jugar voleibol.)

- That’s the shortest dress I’ve tried on!  – (¡Ese es el vestido más corto que me he probado!)
Si el adjetivo con una o dos sílabas termina en CVC (consonante + vocal + consonante),
duplique la última letra y agregue "est".

Ex.:

- Cindy is the thinnest girl of our family. - (Cindy es la niña más delgada de nuestra familia.)

- Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. - (El Monte Everest es la montaña más
alta del mundo.)

- Bulldog is the fattest dog I’ve ever met! - (¡Bulldog es el perro más gordo que he
conocido!)

- That’s the biggest building of the whole town. – (Ese es el edificio más grande de toda la
ciudad.)
Si el adjetivo con una o dos sílabas termina en "y" precedido por una consonante, elimine "y"
y agregue "iest" al adjetivo.

Ex.:

- Daniel is the funniest guy I’ve ever seen. - (Daniel es el chico más divertido que he visto.)

- Bob is the craziest boy of our classroom. - (Bob es el chico más loco de nuestra clase.)

- Luke was the happiest guy of the party. - (Luke era el chico más feliz de la fiesta.)

- Kevin is the busiest lawyer of the office. – (Kevin es el abogado más ocupado de la oficina.)
Irregulares (excepciones)

Algunos adjetivos muy comunes tienen sus formas en superlativo completamente irregulares.

- Amanda is the best teacher of our school. - (Amanda es la mejor maestra de nuestra escuela.)

- This is the worst movie I’ve ever seen. - (Esta es la peor película que he visto.)

- The best thing in our lives is our family. - (Lo mejor en nuestras vidas es nuestra familia.)
