Feeling Queasy
Nurse: Good morning, Mr. Adams. How are you doing today?
Patient: Horrible! I can't eat anything! I just feel sick to my stomach. Take the tray away.
Nurse: That's too bad. I'll just put this over here for now. Have you felt queasy for very
long?
Patient: I woke up during the middle of the night. I couldn't get back to sleep, and now I
feel terrible.
Nurse: Certainly, I'll get you a cup immediately. Would you like black tea or peppermint
tea?
Patient: Peppermint, please. Do you think I could have another blanket? I'm so cold. I think
I'm getting the chills.
Nurse: My name is Alice. I'll be on shift during the day for the next few days.
Patient: Hello Alice. My name is Jack. Nice to meet you.
Nurse: Let's get you feeling better Jack! Is there anything else I can get for you?
Patient: That's alright. I think a cup of tea and a warm blanket should help.

MEDICAL APPOINTMENT
It is Monday morning, and Carlos is sick. He has a sore throat, a fever, and his body aches.
He doesn’t have health insurance, so he is calling the Maywood Health Clinic to make an

insurance. She also wants to know if he has been to the clinic before.
After Carlos answers all the questions, the receptionist makes an appointment for him at
10:30 a.m. today. By the end of their conversation, Carlos is nauseated. He wants to vomit,
but he can’t. Now, Carlos needs to get dressed and drive to the clinic. He is worried that he
might vomit while driving to the clinic. He doesn’t want to vomit in his car. What can Carlos
do? How can he solve his problem?

You'll need first aid items in your emergency kit. First aid
kits often have medicines. You may want to include aspirin
and/or acetaminophen (like Tylenol). You might also want
hydrocortisone and an antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin).
If you have special medical needs, you may need to keep
other medicines on hand. For example, if you have severe allergies, you may need
epinephrine. Keep in mind that many medicines can be damaged by heat. Read the label
and take it out of your car on hot days. Also check expiration dates periodically and throw
away and replace any expired medicines.
Keep a variety of sizes and shapes of bandages in your kit. Don't forget to include gauze,
scissors, and compress dressings. Gloves are also a good idea to help protect you from
infection. Tweezers can be used to remove splinters. Finally, unless you are a doctor, put a
first aid instruction booklet in your kit so you know what to do in an emergency.
In addition to first aid items, you'll need to be prepared for other emergencies. What would
you do if there's an earthquake, flood, or hurricane and you are isolated and without power?
Your highest priority will be food and water. Humans can't survive long without drinking water
so make sure and keep an emergency supply in your house and a smaller supply in your
car. The Red Cross recommends keeping one gallon per person, per day. You'll need a
three-day supply at a minimum. You'll also need to have a supply of emergency non-
perishable food (such as canned or boxed food). When planning your emergency foods,
keep in mind that you may not be able to cook after a disaster. Plan foods such as nuts that
you don't have to cook, rather than rice, which requires cooking.

Airport Information
The airport is your first stop before leaving on your dream vacation or trip. Generally
speaking, you should arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. Don't arrive 10 minutes
before your plane departs. You can park your car in long-term parking if you are planning to
be away for a few days, or you can ask someone to drop you off in the loading zone right
in front of the airport terminal. In some cases, you can check your bags there at curbside,
or you might have to go to the check-in counter inside the airport. Many airports now allow
you to check in at a computer kiosk, but you will still need to check your bags if you have
any. Once you are checked in, you will have to pass through security where they will check
your ID and your carry-on bags. You will also need to walk through a metal detector, which
will check for illegal items. After you pass through security, you can walk to the gate where
you can wait to board your flight. Just wait until they call your section to board. They usually
seat first-class passengers and those who need assistance first. Enjoy your flight.
3. You might arrive early because the airport ___________ will be crowded around that
time of day. (RMTNAEIL)
4. Do you want to ___________ that bag at the counter, or are you planning on carrying
it on the plane? ( ECKHC)
Airport security is a major concern for people who fly on airlines. However, people are often
unaware as to the rules about what you can and cannot carry on board domestic and
international flights because these rules are constantly changing. Now, use the Internet to
identify the specific items that are banned from flights at the airport nearest you. Summarize
your findings with a partner and give a reason why each item is banned from flights.

Public Debt
Government debt refers to the money owed at any given time by any government. This may
include public debt owed by the federal government, the state government, or the municipal
and local government. Public debt increases when government spends more money than it
collects in taxation. This leads to "government deficit" which refers to the difference between
government receipts and spending in a single year, that is, the increase of debt over a
particular year.
Government debt is also called public debt, national debt or sovereign debt. Government
debt can be categorized as internal debt (owed to lenders within the country) and external
debt (owed to foreign lenders). Another common division of government debt is by duration
until repayment is due. Short term debt is generally considered to be for one year or less,
long term is for more than ten years. Medium term debt falls between these two boundaries.
A broader definition of government debt considers all government liabilities, including future
pension payments and payments for goods and services the government has contracted but
not yet paid.
