ABSTRACT
Microplastics are a growing threat due to their ability to relate to the feeding of the biota,
causing a variety of negative effects. The purpose of this research is to analyze microplastics
residue in the digestive tract of Dormitator latifrons in an artificial canal in the Durán canton.
50 specimens were analyzed and presented a range of sizes that goes from 13.0 to 28.0 cm.
Through direct observation, it was determined that most of the plastic microparticles ranged
from 50.0 to 550.0 µm, with the range between 150.0 and 249.0 µm being the most abundant.
The film-type microplastics reached an abundance of 91% while the fragments represented
the remaining 9.0 %. Regarding the coloration of the microplastics found, blue particles
dominated the study with 60.0 %, and red, black, white and green in lower proportions. The
analyzed specimens showed a microplastics prevalence of 80.0 %, as well as values of 1.62
and 2.02 regarding the average abundance and average intensity. In addition, a connection
of 0.21 and 0.10 was reported between biometric parameters such as height and weight with
respect to the abundance of microplastics, which indicates that there is no relationship
between these variables and the number of ingested microplastic particles. In addition, there
is evidence of a relationship between the size of the particle and the total length of the chame,
which could be related to the size of the mouth of this species.

1 INTRODUCCIÓN
1
