A mí
Por mí
MONOSYLLABLES
Monosyllables are not accented, except for diacritics used to differentiate them from others that
sound the same but are spelled and mean differently. Additionally, their grammatical category
varies among them.
The words "mi," "mi," and "mí" are among those few monosyllables that are accented.
Mi: The word "mi" is written without an accent when it functions as an adjective or possessive
determiner.
Example: Mi is the third note of the musical scale. Singing with a mi is very off-key.
Mí: The word "mí" with an accent, however, is a personal pronoun that replaces "yo" (I), and a
preposition always precedes it.
Example: For me
For me
By me
