PRÓLOGO
Yo descubrí el poder de los Cinco Verbos del Aprendizaje durante un viaje de
una semana que hice a República Dominicana para visitar una obra misionera
asociada a nuestra iglesia. Hemos estado sirviendo en dicha comunidad por
más de una década y sentimos la necesidad de buscar nuevas perspectivas en
términos de hacia dónde seguir con nuestro trabajo. Quisimos tomar un
tiempo para mirar hacia atrás y ver lo que Dios había estado haciendo, y un
tiempo para buscar la dirección hacia donde avanzar en nuestro trabajo
conjunto. A fin de ver con nuevos ojos lo que Dios podría hacer, invité a J.
Hermann Klaas, un viejo amigo de la universidad y quien habla bien Español,
para que juntos escucháramos y descubriéramos lo que Dios estaba haciendo
en dicha obra misionera.
Compartimos una semana memorable con nuestra comunidad dominicana. Al
reflexionar sobre esta experiencia, observé que nos conectamos con los
líderes de la iglesia de allá con una profundidad que no había encontrado
antes. Dada la facilidad del idioma, Hermann pudo tener conversaciones de
corazón a corazón y orar con el liderazgo de la iglesia. Nos imaginamos
donde Dios podría estar extendiendo Su Reino. Soñamos. Compartimos ideas.
Celebramos lo que Dios hizo a través de nuestro trabajo conjunto. Miramos
hacia atrás y nos maravillamos de los riesgos asumidos en términos de tiempo
y dinero y en cuanto a nuestros ministerios y personas. Vimos la necesidad

Jesús nos llamó a ser discípulos o ‘aprendices’. Somos alumnos de Jesús.
Somos sus aprendices, lo cual sugiere que aprendemos haciendo. Las
apreciaciones de Hermann acerca de cómo el aprendizaje va tomando lugar a
través del proceso me ha dado unos nuevos lentes a través de los cuales
puedo ver mi trabajo como pastor y como hacedor de discípulos. Aprecio la
manera en la que Hermann ha integrado su perspectiva como educador de

FOREWORD
I discovered the power of the Five Verbs of Learning while on a one week trip
to the Dominican Republic to visit a mission partner of our church. We have
been serving with this Latin community for over a decade and we felt the
need for some fresh insights as to where to go next. We wanted a time to
look back at what God had done, and a time to seek direction for the future
work together. In order to get some fresh eyes on what God might be doing, I
invited Jim Klaas, an old friend from university days, who was fluent in
Spanish, so together we could listen and learn what God was doing in this
mission work.
We shared a remarkable week together with our Dominican community. As I
reflected on the experience, I observed how we connected with the church
leaders with a depth I had not found before. Jim was able to have heart-to-
heart conversations and prayer with the church leadership that speaking
Spanish allowed. We imagined where God might be expanding His kingdom.
We dreamed. We shared ideas. We celebrated what God had done through
our work together. We looked back and wondered at the risks that had been
taken: with time, with money, with ministries and with people. We saw the
need to risk more for the kingdom. The five verbs were in play, back and
forth in all we did that week together!
Jesus called us to be disciples or ‘learners.’ We are Jesus’ students. We are
Jesus’ apprentices – which suggest learning by doing. Jim’s insight into the
process of how learning takes place has given me a new set of lenses through
which to view my work as a pastor and disciple maker. I appreciate how he
has integrated his perspective in adult education with his calling to make
disciples. I have experienced the fruit of this labour of love in that I just
completed Series 1 of the 40 Days of Discipleship with a new believer in my
church. I found the spiritual exercises suggested each day were very helpful
and was impressed at how they echo the spirituality of the ancient church
while using the modern technology of the smart phone. We are both keen to
move forward with Series 2 and I welcome you to this journey.

AGRADECIMIENTOS
Los verbos y la gramática parecen ser demasiado distantes para tener algo
que ver con el aprendizaje de Jesús. Los verbos, si acaso, solo parecen ser
importantes para nuestra comunicación. Estoy agradecido con Pete Pagan y
con una cantidad de amigos, estudiantes y participantes del Internet que han
experimentado con estas ideas y me han compartido sus comentarios.
Como lo verás en este estudio, los verbos son el motor del aprendizaje. A mi
me impresionan especialmente los verbos del Español, que son los que me

Verbs and grammar may seem a long way away from having anything to do
with learning from Jesus. For our communication, if nothing else, verbs are
important. I am grateful to Pete Pagan and a number of friends, students and
participants from the Internet who tested these ideas and gave me feedback.
But verbs, as you will see from this study, provide the motor for learning. I
have been especially impressed with Spanish verbs that attracted me to this
topic, so I must thank the thousands of people who have not only suffered
with my Spanish for 32 years, but also who have patiently corrected me. I
probably should speak better than I can, but as I often have said, “I can
understand everything I say”.
I am particularly aware of ministry teams I participate or have participated
with from our local church, to national agencies and international missions.
These friends have shown me how the learning verbs work. Along with this, I

me recognize patterns of adult learning. I also want to mention Gord Jones,
‘professor of real life’ who models the learning verbs in everything he does.

INTRODUCCIÓN
Lo mejor que puedes ofrecer en esta serie es tu ejemplo personal como
aprendiz de Jesús que cuida de los demás y crea un ambiente en el que la
gente puede descubrir como aprender e interactuar personalmente con Dios.
Tu no puedes hacer que eso suceda, pero puedes ayudar a que suceda. Trata
de crear un espacio para el descubrimiento personal y para que en
comunidad puedan escuchar lo que Dios está diciendo. Traten de reunirse
semanalmente durante la serie. Cada 7 días, se distribuye una guía para
ayudarle al líder a estimular la discusión entre los participantes. Se pretende
que sea algo sencillo de hacer y fácil de compartir. Se Seguirá enfatizando el
ADN del discipulado:
 Verdad Divina en la lectura devocional de cada persona.
 Nutrir las relaciones a medida que observan y responden a la obra de
Dios en y alrededor de Ustedes.

 Imaginar: Visualizar lo que Dios puede hacer.
 Conectarse: Confía en Dios con respecto a las relaciones.
 Arriesgarse: Actuar de acuerdo a su Palabra.
 Reflexionar: Deleitarse en lo que Dios está diciendo.
 Celebrar: Regocijarse en lo que Dios está haciendo.
Dedicaremos una semana a cada verbo, al cabo de la cual habrá una sección
para PRACTICAR lo que estamos aprendiendo. Estos verbos generarán nuevas
habilidades para reconocer y fortalecer el crecimiento y el ministerio de cada
participante. El hacer discípulos estará más centrado en lo básico de las vidas
de las personas y dependerá menos de programas. Así, sus vidas espirituales
estarán más integradas con todo lo que hacen y lo que son.

INTRODUCTION
The best thing you offer in this series is your personal example as a learner,
your care for others and creating an environment where people can discover
how to learn and interact with God personally. You cannot make that happen,
but you can help make it happen. Seek to create space for personal discovery
and community listening to what God is saying. Try to meet weekly
throughout the series. Every 7 days there is a conversation guide to help
stimulate the discussion with other participants. It is meant to be s imple to do
and easy to share.
You will continue to place emphasis on the DNA of discipleship:
 Divine Truth in each person’s devotional reading
 Nurturing relationships as you observe and respond to God’s
working in and around you.
 Advancing the mission as you continue to pray for Laborers for the
harvest.
At the same time you will develop new understanding of how the five learning
verbs affect our discipleship:
 Imagine: Envision what God might do
 Connect: Trust God with relationships
 Risk: Act according to His Word
 Reflect: Delight in what God is saying
 Celebrate: Rejoice in what God is doing
We will spend a week on each verb followed by a final section to PRACTICE
what we are learning. These verbs will generate new abilities to recognize and
nurture growth and ministry for each participant. Making disciples will
become more centered in the grass-roots of people’s lives, less dependent on
programs and their spiritual lives will become more integrated with
everything they do and are.
May the Lord multiple laborers through your service and may it a result in an
inheritance of the nations. (Psalm 2:8)

Día 1: Imaginar – Visualiza lo que Dios puede
hacer
1 Corintios 2:9
Antes bien, como está escrito:
«Cosas que ojo no vio ni oído oyó
ni han subido al corazón del hombre,
son las que Dios ha preparado para los que lo aman.»
Jesús provocó la imaginación del hombre ciego cuando le preguntó "¿Qué
quieres que haga por ti?" Seguramente Jesús sabía de la ceguera del hombre
y de su propia capacidad para curarlo. Tal vez quiso activar la imaginación de
Bartimeo para que visualizara una realidad diferente ya que tenía la presencia
del Mesías frente a él, algo mucho mejor que recibir una moneda.
Pablo dice que Dios es capaz de darnos mucho más abundantemente de lo
que podemos pedir o imaginar. Nuestra imaginación no puede sobrepasar a
Dios. Nuestra imaginación nos permite a pensar en lo que es posible para
Dios, para luego presentárselo en oración, así como hizo el ciego: "Rabí,
quiero ver!".
¿Qué pasaría en el mundo si el pueblo de Dios comenzara a imaginar lo que
Dios puede hacer en ellos y a través de ellos, y luego actuara de acuerdo a su
imaginación aplicando los otros verbos del aprendizaje? Ocurriría una
movilización excepcional de fe y de posibilidades del Reino.
Para Reflexionar:
 Cómo ha ido cambiando tu respuesta a la pregunta de Jesús "¿qué
puedo hacer por ti"?
 Cómo contribuye 'el yugo' de Jesús a nuestra imaginación?
Haz que la Vida Valga:
 Imagínate a ti mismo encontrándote con Jesús y llena el espacio en
blanco con lo que le dirías: "Rabí quiero ________."

Day 1: Imagine: Envision what God might do
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and
what no human mind has conceived" - the things God has prepared for those
who love him -
Jesus provoked the imagination of the blind man when he asked him 'What
do you want me to do for you?" Surely Jesus knew of the man’s blindness and
his own ability to heal him? Perhaps he wanted to see if he could trigger the
man's imagination to perceive a different reality, something better than
begging for a coin, by drawing closer to the Messiah.
Paul says that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we
can ask or imagine. We can't out-imagine God. Our imagination leads us to
think of God-possibilities that we can then reflect back to God in prayer, like
the blind man's response, "Rabbi, I want to see!”
What would happen across the world if God's people started to imagine what
God could do in and through them and then acted upon that imagination with
the other learning verbs? It would be an outstanding mobilization of faith and
kingdom possibilities.
For Reflection:
 How has your answer to Jesus’ question “what can I do for you” been
changing?
 How does Jesus ‘yoke’ help our imagination?
Make Life Count:
 Imagine yourself in the today's encounter and fill in the blank: "Rabbi
I want to ________".

Día 2: Imaginar - Mira a Jesús como el Verbo

Juan 1:1
En el principio era el Verbo, el Verbo estaba con Dios y el Verbo era Dios.
Jesús es nuestro modelo y nos centramos en imitarlo. Comenzamos con la
forma en que se describe en Juan 1: 1. En muchas versiones de la Biblia en
español, Juan 1:1 dice: "En el principio era el Verbo y el Verbo era con Dios y
el Verbo era Dios". Esto puede parecer sorprendente para aquellos de
nosotros que están acostumbrados al tradicional "En el principio era la
Palabra". Permite que la palabra "verbo", desafíe tu perspectiva. Debido al
exceso de palabras a las que estamos expuestos en esta era de la
información, podemos interpretar a Jesús el Verbo simplemente como más
"información acerca de Dios”. ¿Es suficiente con decir "conozco esa
información y creo que es verdad"? Si bien necesitamos conocer esa
información, el interactuar con el Verbo va mucho más allá.
Dondequiera que Jesús fue, transformó personas. Para aquellos que
estuvieron dispuestos, Él fue mucho más que información. Las personas
dejaron de ser quienes eran y se convirtieron en seres nuevos. Cuando
cambiamos el discipulado a un verbo, nuestro aprendizaje también va a ser
transformado.
Para Reflexionar:
 ¿Qué verbo describe mejor a Jesús?
 ¿Cuál verbo es el que mejor te describe a tí?
 ¿Cómo crees que Jesús podría mostrar que Él sigue siendo Verbo hoy
en día? Mantén tus ojos abiertos!

Day 2: Imagine - See Jesus as the Ultimate
Verb
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God.
Jesus is our model and we focus on imitating Him. We start with how he is
described in John 1:1. In many Spanish versions of the Bible, John 1:1 says “In
the beginning was the Verb and the Verb was with God and the Verb was
God”. This may sound surprising to those of us who are used to the
traditional "In the beginning was the Word". Let the word, “verb”, challenge
your perspective. Because of the surplus of words in this age of information,
we can interpret ‘Jesus as Word’ as more 'information about God'. Is it
enough to say “I know the information and I think it is true”? Yes we need to
know information but there is more to interacting with the Verb.
Wherever Jesus went, he transformed people. For those who were willing, it
was more than information. People stopped being who they were and they
became someone new. When we turn discipleship into a verb, it will
transform our learning.

 What verb best describes Jesus?
 Which verb best describes yourself?
Make Life Count:
 Imagine how Jesus could show his verb-ness today? Keep your eyes
open!

Día 3: Imaginar – Cree más allá de lo que
puedes ver
Efesios 3:20-21
Y ahora, gloria sea a Dios, que puede hacer muchísimo más de lo que nosotros
pedimos o pensamos, gracias a su poder que actúa en nosotros. 21 ¡Gloria a
Dios en la iglesia y en Cristo Jesús, por todos los siglos y para siempre! Amén.
Necesitamos sistemas escalables para lograr un movimiento masivo de
obreros. Para ello debemos tener la capacidad para pasar de un proyecto
piloto a una situación de gran escala sin perder calidad. Afortunadamente las
promesas de Dios para nuestros descendientes espirituales son escalables y
nunca se agotarán. Todas estas promesas son "Sí" y "Amén" en nuestro Señor
Jesucristo, para todos los creyentes y para todos los tiempos. Enseñarle a la
gente el ADN del discipulado y la práctica de los 5 verbos del aprendizaje es
algo escalable.
No hay escasez de imaginación, ni de posibles conexiones, ni de riesgos, ni de
reflexiones, ni de celebrar la obra de Dios en nosotros. Estas son cosas que no
requieren edificios ni programas, sólo la plena participación de nuestro
corazón y nuestra alma. Las habilidades simples son escalables: enseñar a
otros a tener un tiempo devocional; a orar; a reclamar las promesas de Dios; a
conectarse con los demás; y a hacer el bien en el mundo asumiendo riesgos.
El obrar de Dios en nosotros es escalable porque Él es inagotable e ilimitado.
Para Reflexionar:
 Imagina qué pasaría si 100 personas harían lo que estás haciendo
ahora con respecto al discipulado.
 ¿Qué nuevas experiencias crees que Dios ha preparado para ti?
 Pídele a Dios que use tu vida "muchísimo más" de lo que puedes
pensar o imaginar. ¿Cuál crees que sería el próximo paso?

Day 3: Imagine - Believe beyond what you can
see
Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.
For a massive movement of laborers we need scalable systems. That is the
ability to go from a pilot project to full production without losing quality.
Fortunately the promises of God for spiritual descendants are scalable and
will never run out. All these promises are 'Yes' and 'amen' in our Lord Jesus
Christ for everybody and for all time. Teaching people the DNA of discipleship
and practicing the 5 learning verbs are scalable.
There is no shortage of imagination, or possible connections or risks, or
reflections or celebration of God at work. These are things that do not require
buildings or programs, only the full engagement of our heart and soul. Simple
skills are scalable: teaching others how to have a quiet time; how to pray;
how to claim the promises of God; how to connect with others and how to
bring good into the world as we take risks. God at work in us is scalable
because He faces no limits.
For Reflection:
 If 100 people would do what you are doing now in discipleship,
imagine what would happen?
 What new experiences do you think God has prepared for you?
Make Life Count:
 Ask God to use your life "immeasurably more" that you can think or
imagine. What is the next step?

Día 4: Imaginar - Como bebés recién nacidos…

1 Pedro 2:2,3
Como niños recién nacidos, busquen con ansia la leche espiritual pura, para
que por medio de ella crezcan y tengan salvación, ya que han gustado la
bondad del Señor.
Muchos cristianos nunca aprenden a alimentarse porque en lugar de permitir
que el pastor se concentre en capacitarlos para servir, tienen una expectativa
poco realista de que traerá otro mensaje estimulante, semana tras semana.
Así, la vida cristiana se convierte en algo similar a un evento deportivo en el
que una persona se agota haciendo muchas cosas mientras los demás se
aburren. Terminamos hablando de Dios en lugar de interactuar con Dios.
Tú tienes un papel muy importante: poner las Escrituras en práctica. Piensa
en cómo llora un bebé por la leche. ¿Tienes esa clase de deseo desesperado?
¿La gente está observando la forma en que interactúas con la Palabra viva de
las Escrituras? En el grupo de discipulado, es conveniente preguntarse cómo
van con la lectura y compartir lo que está aprendiendo. Si alguien está
teniendo dificultad para leer las Escrituras, puedes ofrecerle reunirte con él o
ella para leer juntos. No te olvides de interceder por cada participante.
Para Reflexionar:
 ¿Te sientes preparado para ayudarle a otra persona a encontrar la
leche de las Escrituras?
 ¿De qué manera es tu ejemplo personal de ayuda para un creyente
más nuevo que tu?
 Imagina lo que aprenderías si invitaras a alguien a crecer en las
Escrituras contigo. ¿Cómo te hace sentir eso?

Day 4: Imagine - Become like a newborn
babe...again
1 Peter 2:2-3
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up
in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Many, many Christians never learn to feed themselves. They place an
unrealistic expectation on the preacher to come up with another stimulating
message, week after week, instead of leaving the pastor to focus on
equipping them for the works of service. It becomes a spectator sport where
one player is exhausted and the rest are bored. We end up talking about God
instead of interacting with God.
You have an important role of demonstrating how to put the Scriptures into
practice. Think of how a baby cries for milk. Do you have that kind of
desperate desire? Are people observing how you interact with the living
Word of the Scriptures? With the DNA group, ask how the readings are going
and share what you are learning. If someone is having difficulty reading the
Scriptures, then offer to meet a few times and do it together. Don’t forget to
pray for God’s help for each participant.

 Do you feel equipped to help another find the milk of the Scriptures?
 How is your personal example helpful to the newer believer?

 Imagine what you will learn if you invite someone else to grow in the
Scriptures with you. How does that make you feel?

Y si son de Cristo, entonces son descendientes de Abraham y herederos de las
promesas que Dios le hizo.

Dios le dijo a Abraham que mirara al cielo y le ordenó contar las estrellas

pedir o imaginar, pues ni siquiera tenía hijos al momento de recibir la

Ambas promesas tenían una condición: contar y pedir, y ambos tuvieron un
magnífico resultado: las naciones, tan numerosas como las estrellas. Pero,
¿podemos reclamar las promesas que le fueron hechas a Abraham y al
Mesías? El versículo de hoy dice: "Si eres de Cristo, entonces ciertamente eres
linaje de Abraham y heredero según la promesa”. Por tanto, podemos
reclamar como herencia todo lo que Dios le prometió a Abraham y a Cristo,

Day 5: Imagine - Visualize your inheritance
Galatians 3:29
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to
the promise.
Let's look at the promises of God that permit a massive deployment of
labourers:
God told Abraham to look at the heavens and count the stars." and said, "You
will have descendants like that number”. What a massive scaling he
promised. God wanted to bless him far beyond what he could ask or imagine
even though he was childless at the time. Then in Psalm 2:8, a psalm for the
Messiah, there is a wonderful invitation: "Ask of me and I will give you the
nations as your inheritance ..."
Both promises had a condition: count and ask. Both had a magnificent result:
the nations like the number of stars. But can we claim these promises that
were directed to Abraham and the Messiah? Today's verse says, "If you
belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring and heirs according to the
promise." We claim as our joint inheritance all that was promised to Abraham
and to Christ: all nations to the ends of the earth as our legacy.

 What do you want to ask for when you look at the stars?
 How do these promises make you feel?

 Imagine your family and friends reading your will after you are dead.
What spiritual legacy will you have left them? Start building that
legacy today.

Día 6: Imaginar – Sueña el sueño

Y el Verbo se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros lleno de gracia y de verdad;
y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre.
¿Dónde empieza un hacedor de discípulos a imitar a Jesús? Jesús se convirtió
en una persona física; se hizo carne. Su encarnación fue un requisito para
poder 'estar con' sus discípulos. Jesús vivió entre sus discípulos. Él podría
haber escrito mensajes en el cielo, pero quiso encarnarse para que pudieran
ver quién era.
¿Cuáles son los primeros pasos que guían al aprendiz hacia la encarnación? La
iniciativa del aprendiz es la capacidad de elegir qué aprender. Consiste en
tomar el control de decisiones que nos permitan vivir de alguna manera lo

Day 6: Imagine - Dream His dreams
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his
glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of
grace and truth.
So where does a disciple-maker start to imitate Jesus? He became a physical
person; he became flesh or incarnated. To ' be with' the disciples required
incarnation. He lived among the disciples. He could have written messages in
the sky but he chose to become flesh so they could see who he was.
What are the first steps for learners that lead to incarnation? Learner
agency is the ability to choose what to learn. It is taking control of the
decisions that enable us to become flesh somewhere. Jesus said it was his
decision to lay down his life. A person doesn't have agency when they blame
someone else for their own problems. The lack of agency is the perfect
immobilizer against incarnation because we can't control what 'others' do.
The first learning verb, ‘to imagine’, helped us consider our choices and
allowed us to enter the world of God-possibilities. We imagined what God
might want to do and we began to dream his dreams.

 What choices have you made that have helped your relationship with
God?
 How are choices affected by imagining?

 Think of a specific example where you saw something first in your
imagination then which became a reality.

llevó al hombre para que les pusiera nombre. El hombre les puso nombre a
todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves y a todos los animales
salvajes, y ese nombre se les quedó.
Imaginar fue el primer trabajo que Dios le dio a Adán cuando le pidió que les
pusiera nombre a los animales. Dios podría simplemente haberle dictado los
nombres, pero prefirió presentarle los animales y preguntarle como deberían
ser llamados. Al imaginar sus nombres, Adán se convirtió en co-partícipe en el
proceso de la creación. Puedo imaginar a Dios disfrutando de lo que se le
ocurrió a Adán.
Podemos pensar que la tarea de imaginar pertenece a otra persona que
podría decirnos qué pensar y qué hacer. Sin embargo, practicar la oración

Day 7: Imagine – Adam's first task
Genesis 2:19
Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all
the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name
them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
To imagine was the first job God gave Adam when he asked him to name the
animals. He could have just dictated the names but rather he presented the
animals and asked Adam what they should be called. By imagining their
names, Adam became co-participant in the process of creation. I can imagine
God enjoying what Adam came up with.
We may think the task of imagining belongs to someone else. Someone
should just tell us what to think and do. Yet the practice of prayer, engaging
the Scriptures and interacting in a nurturing community will continually fuel
imagination. We should allow space for imagination to develop instead of
working out all the details. People need permission to dream dreams about
what God may want to do in extending His kingdom.
We also need the protective boundaries of community, people who know and
love us, as we imagine together. Imagining the wrong things can be
dangerous but imagining God's things can be transforming.

Imaginar. Ninguna oración puede formarse sin primero visualizar la
posibilidad de su respuesta. Ningún paso de fe es considerado sin antes ver el
efecto potencial de su influencia. Ningún nuevo descubrimiento se hace sin
primero tener una idea sobre el interés por algo desconocido que requiera ser
investigado.
Dios nos invita a imaginar Su Reino y a ver más allá de las circunstancias
terrenales para vislumbrar Sus planes y propósitos invisibles a medida que
nos van siendo revelados. Él nos invita a ser parte de su proceso creativo
orando, esperando, tomando pasos de fe, asombrándonos, tropezando,

Meet this week to discuss IMAGINE:
Days 1 to 7
All ministry and indeed all learning, starts with the verb Imagine. No prayer is
formed without first seeing the possibility of its answer. No step of faith is
considered without first seeing the potential effect of its influence. No new
discovery is made without first sensing the thirst that something unknown
needs investigation.
God invites us to imagine His kingdom and to see beyond earthy
circumstances to gaze upon His unseen plans and purposes that are being
made known. He invites us into this creative process to pray, to hope, to take
steps of faith, to be amazed, to stumble, to try again, to be entirely surprised
and then to imagine some more.
The results will not necessarily be what we expected but they will be
supernatural. They will not be easy, but they will be life-changing. Imagine is
the learning verb that triggers the other learning verbs.
We have to first see how we are conditioned NOT to imagine. We too often
expect that someone else needs to fix our problem. We quickly accuse the
government, the church, our boss or our family as to why we are stuck in our
own mess. We give away our agency, our ability to choose, and rest in the
solution of simply blaming others. While they might bear some fault, we need
to see how blaming is tragically paralyzing; how it needlessly empowers
helplessness and how it frustrates the advancing kingdom.
It is better to use our own choices, creativity, hopes and resources to see a
different, preferred future. Next week we will look at the second verb,
Connect, which shows us how to join our imagining with others.
The verb imagine needs to be practiced. We easily slip back into old
unimaginative patterns. We need stirring up and reminding. We need
freedom to try on some of the ideas without micromanaging the details. It is a
life-long practice, and art that is enriched by experience. It leads to adventure
and the discovery of an expanding circle of God’s blessing. May the Lord
ignite our imagination as to what He is doing across our world.
For discussion:

1. Before the meeting, review your notes and highlight thoughts and
verses that stand out to you.
2. Invite the Holy Spirit to sanctify (make holy) your imagination. Ask
Him to stir it up, remove the barriers and guide its expression.
3. Share together what you are imagining. What unique contribution did
God plan through creating you? Offer these thoughts up to God in
prayer and with open hands (that He is free to do whatever He wants
with them.)
4. Keep these ideas in mind as you start the second week.

Día 8: Conectarse – Confía en Dios con respecto

uno de ellos cae, el otro lo levanta. ¡Pero ay del que cae estando solo, pues no
habrá quien lo levante!
El siguiente verbo del aprendizaje es conectarse. Lo primero que Dios dijo que
no era bueno en la creación fue que Adán estuviera solo. Imagina el momento
en que Dios despertó a Adán y él vio a Eva. Allí, delante de si mismo tenía un
alma gemela con quien compartir todo en la vida. Ya no estaba solo. Desde
entonces hemos estado añorando una conexión genuina con los demás.
Hay tantas cosas que suceden a través de las conexiones. Si estás solo y te
caes, ¿quién puede ayudarte? Si tienes frío, ¿quién puede ayudarte a
mantener el calor? Tal vez la conexión más importante es la presencia
especial de Dios cuando 2 o 3 personas se reúnen en su nombre. Algo ocurre
cuando unos pocos se ponen de acuerdo para buscar a Dios juntos.
El dicho "Nadie sabe tanto como todo el mundo” ilustra el poder de la
conexión. Podemos disfrutar de una conexión global y compartir ideas,
recursos y ánimo. Sin embargo, muchas de las conexiones son superficiales y
carecen de sentido. Tenemos que aprender a conectarnos con los demás de
manera genuina y con un propósito claro.

Day 8: Connect - Trust God with relationships
Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:
The next learning verb is connect. The first thing that God said that was not
good in the Creation was that Adam was alone. Imagine the moment when
God woke Adam and he saw Eve. There before him was a soul mate to share
everything in life. He was no longer alone. And ever since then we have been
aching for genuine connection with others.
So many things happen through connection. If you are alone and you fall
down, who can help you? If you are cold, who can help keep you warm?
Perhaps the most important connection is the special presence of God when
2 or 3 gather in His name. Something happens through agreement of a few to
seek God together.
The quote that 'Nobody knows as much as everybody' speaks to the power of
connection. We can enjoy a global connection and share ideas, resources and
encouragement. That being said, a lot of connection is shallow or
meaningless. We need to learn to genuinely and purposefully connect with
others.

 What needs to happen to make connection meaningful for you?
 How can you connect better to the people in the Series 1 group?
Make Life Count:
 Look at the verse and write down where you need another to connect
with. Who could that be?

Día 9: Conectarse - ¿Por qué no tú?
1 Tesalonicenses 1:1
Pablo, Silvano y Timoteo saludan a la comunidad de los creyentes de la ciudad
de Tesalónica, que están unidos a Dios el Padre y al Señor Jesucristo. Que Dios

Los grandes avances suceden cuando "lo que es repentinamente posible suple
lo que se necesita desesperadamente". En este momento se necesita

Day 9: Connect - Why not you?
1 Thessalonians 1:1
Paul, Silas and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ:
Grace and peace to you.
Big breakthroughs often happen when what is suddenly possible meets what
is desperately needed”. Mobilization of workers is desperately needed and
we have new abilities to connect to make this happen. Imagine if Jesus’
followers everywhere were released to use all their stored up knowledge and
passion to be harvest workers!
I wonder if Paul, Silas and Timothy when they were writing 1 Thessalonians
were intending to write a letter in the Bible. Perhaps they were simply doing
whatever they could think of to help some new believers. They started
writing down their advice and guidance because they were not physically
present and used the technology at hand: paper and ink. Read today's verse
and put your name, and two friends’ names there. Do you believe you could
have as vast an impact? (Not by adding to the Bible but by helping change
someone’s life.)
God is not restricted today to do less. In fact the needs are greater and his
promises are just as magnificent.

 What comes to mind as you imagine what God wants to do through
you?

do today to make that happen?

Día 10: Conectarse – Observa a los demás
Mateo 6:26-30
Miren las aves que vuelan por el aire: no siembran ni cosechan ni guardan la
cosecha en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre de ustedes que está en el cielo les
da de comer. ¡Y ustedes valen más que las aves! En todo caso, por mucho que
uno se preocupe, ¿cómo podrá prolongar su vida ni siquiera una hora?
“¿Y por qué se preocupan ustedes por la ropa? Fíjense cómo crecen los lirios
del campo: no trabajan ni hilan. Sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera el rey
Salomón, con todo su lujo, se vestía como uno de ellos. Pues si Dios viste así a
la hierba, que hoy está en el campo y mañana se quema en el horno, ¡con
mayor razón los vestirá a ustedes, gente falta de fe!”
El primer nivel de desafío es observar. Hay mandamientos interesantes en la
Biblia que dicen que debemos ser observadores. Jesús dijo que observáramos
las aves del cielo y las flores del campo porque estas nos enseñan acerca de
Dios. Les dijo a sus discípulos que observaran a la mujer que dio las dos
pequeñas monedas como ofrenda. Sus parábolas son lecciones de
observación. La observación es un paso necesario en el aprendizaje. Debemos
observar cómo se hacen las cosas antes de intentar hacerlas nosotros
mismos. Observar es una forma segura de aprender porque se puede obtener
confianza antes de intentar hacer lo que queremos hacer.
Un buen ejemplo es cómo los bebés aprenden. No saben nada cuando

lo que ven.

Day 10: Connect - Observe others
Matthew 6:26-30
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable
than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his
splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of
the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not
much more clothe you—you of little faith?”
The first challenge level is to observe. There are interesting commands in the
Bible for us to be observant. Jesus said to observe the birds of the air and
observe the flowers of the field because they teach us about God. He told his
disciples to observe the poor woman who gave the two small coins as an
offering. His parables were object lessons in observation. Observing is a
necessary step in learning. We can see how things are done before we
actually start doing anything. It is also a safe way to learn because one can
observe and grow in confidence before starting.
A good example is how babies learn. They know nothing when they start and
in a very short time they learn to eat, speak and walk. They observe a massive
amount of activity then they start imitating everything they see.

 Are you a good observer?
 How do you grow in this skill?
Make Life Count:
 Observe yourself today, and ponder the question, "What does God
see and what is he doing?" Write down your conclusions.

Día 11: Conectarse – La estrategia 'estar con'
Marcos 3:14
Designó entonces a doce para que estuvieran con él, para enviarlos a

Entonces viendo la valentía de Pedro y de Juan, y sabiendo que eran hombre
sin letras y del vulgo, se admiraban y les reconocían que habían estado con
Jesús.

ese mismo patrón. Lee de nuevo estos dos pasajes para ver qué hay en

proceso de discipulado. Después, según Hechos 4:13, ocurrió lo siguiente: "Y
al ver la valentía de Pedro y de Juan, y sabiendo que eran sin educación,
hombres ordinarios, se sorprendieron y tomaron en cuenta que estos
hombres habían estado con Jesús."
¿Ves lo que hay en común entre estos dos pasajes? En el primero, Jesús
escogió a doce para que estuvieran con él. Cuando terminó, las personas,
incluyendo los enemigos de Cristo, reconocieron que los discípulos habían

Day 11: Connect - The "be with" strategy
Mark 3:14
He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send
them out to preach,
Acts 4:13
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were
unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that
these men had been with Jesus.
We need to find how Jesus made disciples and see if we can follow the same
pattern. Look again at these two passages to see what is in common. Mark
3:14-15 says "He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he
might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons"
.This was how he started the discipleship process. After he was finished this is
what happened. In Acts 4:13 it says "When they saw the courage of Peter and
John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were
astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."
Do you see what is in common with the two passages? In the first Jesus chose
12 to be with him. After he finished, people, even the enemies of Christ,
recognized that the disciples had been with Jesus. They observed the same
characteristics in the disciples that they saw in the Master. If people recognize
that we have been with Jesus, then our discipleship is working.

 What did Jesus do to ‘be with’ his disciples?
 How many people can you ‘be with’ at once?

Día 12: Conectarse – Invita a alguien más
Mateo 4:19
Jesús les dijo: Síganme, y yo los haré pescadores de hombres.
El segundo paso del método de Jesús fue invitar a otros a unirse a Él en esta
aventura de aprendizaje. Los llamó diciéndoles: "Sígueme". Seguir a Jesús fue
una gran decisión para los discípulos porque significó dejar todo: sus redes de
pesca y sus familias para seguirlo como maestro. Era un estilo de vida
itinerante e incómodo pero que daba acceso al Señor del universo de día y de
noche; algo inimaginablemente valioso.
Una vez nos damos cuenta de que tenemos el poder de tomar decisiones que
nos ayudan a crecer, nuestro segundo paso es elegir la conexión. Pasamos del
singular al plural. Aceptamos la invitación a seguir. Nos damos cuenta de que
unimos fuerzas con Jesús y con otros aprendices. Podemos lograr mucho más
juntos que separados. Tenemos el desafío de salir de nuestra zona de
comodidad y unirnos con otros en la aventura del aprendizaje. Dios nos invita
y nosotros aceptamos aquello que nos permite entrar en una relación de
discípulos. El segundo verbo del aprendizaje es 'conectarse'.

 ¿Cómo te conectas con los demás en el aprendizaje de la oración

Day 12: Connect – Invite someone else
Matthew 4:19
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for
people.”
The next step in Jesus’ method was inviting others to join him in this learning
adventure. He called them and said "Follow me". It was a big choice because
it meant leaving everything: their fishing nets and their families to follow him
as their teacher. It was an uncomfortable itinerant lifestyle. But it afforded
day and night access to the Lord of the universe, something that was both
costly and unimaginably rich.
Once we realize we have the power to make choices that help us grow, our
next step is choosing connection. We move from singular to plural. We accept
the invitation to follow. We realize as we join forces with Jesus and other
learners, we can accomplish far more together than what we could do
separately. We are challenged to leave our comfort zones and join with
others in the learning adventure. God invites and we accept which allows us
to enter the disciple relationship. The second learning verb is ‘to connect’.

Día 13: Conectarse – Ayúdale a alguien a aprender
Juan 8:31-32
Jesús les dijo a los judíos que habían creído en él:
—Si ustedes se mantienen fieles a mi palabra, serán de veras mis
discípulos; conocerán la verdad, y la verdad los hará libres.
Responder al llamado de Jesús mediante la fe cambia lo que sabemos, lo que
hacemos y lo que somos. Aprendemos cosas nuevas acerca de quién es Dios.
Nos convertimos en seres nuevos, en hijos de Dios, y aprendemos a ser
pacientes, amables, cariñosos, gentiles, alegres y con dominio propio. Este es
el fruto del Espíritu que vive dentro de nosotros. Y hacemos cosas nuevas,
como continuar interactuando con las Escrituras, orar, ayudar a los
necesitados, decir la verdad, servir y dar. No es suficiente saber acerca de
Dios, pero la presencia de Emmanuel - Dios con nosotros - lo transforma todo.
Llegamos a conocer a Dios.
En la primera serie hablamos de andar en bicicleta. Para hacer funcionar una
bicicleta necesitamos saber, ser y hacer ciertas cosas. Al principio, alguien
corre a nuestro lado y nos sostiene hasta que aprendemos. El discipulado
sigue un patrón similar de aprendizaje experiencial e individual, estimulado
por la ayuda de otra persona.

necesitamos para andar en una bicicleta?
 ¿En que se parece el discipulado a la idea de que alguien esté junto a
nosotros cuando estamos aprendiendo a andar en bicicleta?
 ¿Qué se puede hacer para ayudarle a alguien a guardar la enseñanza
de Jesús hoy? ¿Qué promete Jesús?

Day 13: Connect - Help another learn
John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you
are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you
free.”
When we respond to Jesus by faith, he changes what we know, what
we do and who we are. We know new things about who God is. We become
something new, children of God, and we learn to be patient and kind, loving
and gentle, self-controlled and joyful. This is the fruit of the Spirit living inside
us. And we do new things, like continuing in the Scriptures, praying, helping
those in need, telling the truth, serving and giving. It is not enough to know
about God, but the presence of Emmanuel, God with us, transforms
everything. We get to know God.
We talked about bike riding in the first series. To make a bike work we need
to know, be and do certain things. We are also helped by someone who
comes along side us as we learn. Discipleship follows the same pattern of
individual experiential learning encouraged by the help of another.

 What are the knowing, being and doing skills in riding a bike?
 How is discipleship like coming alongside someone who is learning to
ride a bike?

Día 14: Conectarse – Usa un plan sencillo de
aprendizaje
2 Pedro 1:5-7
Y por esto deben esforzarse en añadir a su fe la buena conducta; a la buena
conducta, el entendimiento; al entendimiento, el dominio propio; al dominio
propio, la paciencia; a la paciencia, la devoción; a la devoción, el afecto
fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, el amor.
A continuación te presento un plan simple que sirve para enseñar cualquier
cosa con respecto al discipulado. Yo lo llamo TEMA.
Se inicia con la "T" de Testimonio. Cuando estás ayudando a otra persona a
crecer, ¿cuál es tu historia personal en esa área?
La "E" representa la Escritura. Al principio sólo necesitamos 1 o 2 versículos
clave que nos ayuden a ilustrar algunos puntos.
Luego viene la “M”. Necesitamos un Método sencillo para tener una manera
de empezar. Podemos usar 7 Minutos con Dios como una herramienta muy
sencilla.
Por último está la “A” para recordarnos que juntos debemos Aplicar o
practicar todo lo anterior juntos.
Testimonio, Escrituras, Método simple y Aplicarlo juntos.
Podríamos abordar cualquier aspecto del discipulado usando el patrón TEMA:
nuestro Testimonio y la Escritura Aplicados de manera conjunta.

Day 14: Connect – Use a simple learning plan
2 Peter 1:5-7
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to
goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,
perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual
affection; and to mutual affection, love.
Here is a simple plan to teach anything in discipleship. I call it SSTT (If you can
make the words into something that sounds better please give me your
suggestion.)
It starts with your story, the first "S". When you are helping someone else
grow, what is your Story in that area?
The second "S" is Scripture. We don't need a lot of Scripture, just 1 or 2 key
verses that help illustrate the principle.
We need a simple Tool (the first "T"), some way to start. We used 7 Minutes
with God as a simple tool.
Then we need to practice it Together (the last "T").
Your Story, the Scriptures, a simple Tool then practice
it Together.
We could frame any theme for growth into a simple lesson pattern
of SSTT: Story and Scripture with a Tool Together. Why don't you try that with
someone today? Share how to have a devotional time with God.

CONECTARSE - Días 8 a 14
Estamos hechos para tener experiencias con Dios en comunidad. Conectarse
con otras personas es algo tan obvio que parece innecesario decirlo, pero sin
darnos cuenta, podemos reflejar nuestro individualismo dentro de las
Escrituras. A continuación presento otra manera de decir lo mismo con otras
palabras que me ayudaron a entenderlo mejor.
Jesús dijo “Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi Palabra, seréis verdaderamente
mis discípulos; y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres.” (Juan 8:31).
Quien lea la Biblia en Inglés podría asumir que en este versículo Jesús se
refiere al pronombre personal you en singular. Por lo tanto, podría
interpretarlo de la siguiente manera: “Si yo hiciera mi devocional y si yo
escuchara el sermón, y si yo estudiara la Biblia, entonces yo experimentaría la
libertad de la que Jesús habla.” Pero en la versión en Español vemos que lo
dice claramente en forma plural “si vosotros permaneciereis” – equivalente a
“si ustedes permanecen”. No es suficiente con que yo haga mi devocional y
con que tu hagas el tuyo. Nosotros necesitamos escuchar juntos. Necesitamos
conectar nuestros pensamientos. Necesitamos armar el rompecabezas juntos.
Necesitamos la voz de cada uno.
La armadura espiritual es otro buen ejemplo (Efesios 6). Mi escudo de fe te
protege de los dardos de fuego cuando estás a mi lado y tu escudo me
protege cuando estoy a tu lado. Por lo tanto, conectarse puede salvar vidas.
Nunca estuvo previsto que vivamos nuestra vida de discipulado de manera
solitaria.
Conectarse con otras personas es a menudo una decisión intencional tal como
llamar a alguien e invitarlo a reunirse. Se trata de tomar la iniciativa y de tener
la apertura para acercarse a los demás. Debemos vivir conectados como las
partes de un cuerpo. Puede ser costoso pero también es fructífero. El

Meet this week to discuss CONNECT:
Days 8 to 14
We are made to experience God in community. To connect seems so obvious
that it hardly needs to be said, but we can reflect our individualism right into
the Scriptures without being aware. Here is an example how another
language helped me to learn this.
Jesus said “if you continue in my Word, you will know the truth and the truth
will set you free.” (John 8:31). In English I had always assumed he was
referring to you (singular). If I had my devotional time and if I listened to the
sermon, and if I studied the Bible, then I would experience the freedom Christ
intends. Then I found from learning Spanish that “if you continue” means “if
you all continue”... It is plural. It is not enough that I have my devotional time,
and you have yours. We need to be listening together. We need to connect
our thoughts. We need to fit together the pieces of the puzzle. We need
everyone’s voice.
The Spiritual armor is another good example. My shield of faith offers you
protection against the flaming arrows when you are at my side and your
shield protects me when I am at your side. (Ephesians 6) Connecting can be
life-saving.
Our discipleship life was never meant to be lived alone.
Connection is often a deliberate decision of picking up the phone and inviting
someone to meet. It is taking initiative and being open to promptings to
reach out. We are to live connected like parts of a body. It is costly but
fruitful. It is like the saying, “If you want to go fast, journey by yourself. If you
want to go far, journey together.”

1. What is easy and what is difficult for you in connecting?
2. Where do you feel challenged to move from ‘singular’ to ‘plural’ in
your experience of discipleship?
3. Where would you like to connect, but do not know how?
4. How do we ‘practice’ connecting?

Día 15: Arriesgarse – Actúa de acuerdo a Su
Palabra
Mateo 14:28-30
Entonces Pedro le respondió:
—Señor, si eres tú, ordena que yo vaya hasta ti sobre el agua.
—Ven —dijo Jesús.
Pedro entonces bajó de la barca y comenzó a caminar sobre el agua en
dirección a Jesús. Pero al notar la fuerza del viento, tuvo miedo; y como
comenzaba a hundirse, gritó:
—¡Sálvame, Señor!
¿Qué significa el verbo "arriesgarse" para ti? Para algunos, el riesgo es algo
que debe controlarse o reducirse al mínimo, pero el Reino de Dios parece
prosperar en el riesgo. Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos que alimentaran a 5.000
personas cuando no tenían la menor idea de qué hacer. Él los envió a sanar y
echar fuera demonios. Jesús observó como cuatro amigos quitaron las tejas y
bajaron a un paralítico en su presencia para que lo sanara. Les dijo a los ricos
e ilustres que debían ser como niños. Aplaudió a la pobre mujer por ofrendar
todos sus ahorros. Dijo que iba a derribar el templo y reconstruirlo en 3 días.
Invitó a Pedro a salir de la barca y caminar sobre el agua. Creo que Jesús
disfrutaba las situaciones en que podía desafiar el pensamiento de las
personas más allá de su límite. Parecía asumir deliberadamente una actitud
desafiante frente a las tradiciones y las expectativas.
Yo no estoy acostumbrado a asumir este tipo de riesgos extremos en los que
no tengo ni idea cuales serán los resultados hasta tanto no lo intente. Pero el
riesgo es como un músculo: entre más se usa, más se fortalece.

 ¿Qué cosas imposibles estás sintiendo que el Señor te pide hacer?
 ¿Cuál es el primer paso en lo que Dios te está pidiendo hacer? Actúa

Day 15: Risk – Act according to His Word
Matthew 14:28-30
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward
Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried
out, “Lord, save me!”
What does the verb 'risk' mean to you? For some, risk is something to control
or minimize but God's Kingdom seems to thrive on risk. He told his disciples
to feed 5000 people when they didn’t have a clue as to what to do. He sent
them out to heal and cast out demons. He watched as four friends took off
the roof tiles and lowered a paralyzed man into his presence to be healed. He
told the rich and important they should become like children. He applauded
the poor woman for offering her entire savings. He said he would tear down
the temple and rebuild it in 3 days. He invited Peter to step out of the boat
and walk on the water. I think he enjoyed these situations of pushing thinking
beyond their limit. He seemed deliberately provocative especially in the face
of traditions and expectations.
I am not used to living this kind of rambunctious risk where we have no idea
of the outcomes until we try it. Risk is like a muscle that grows stronger the
more you use it.

 What impossible things do you feel the Lord is asking you to do?

Día 16: Arriesgarse – Acepta el Llamado
Efesios 4:11-12
Y él mismo concedió a unos ser apóstoles y a otros profetas, a otros anunciar
el evangelio y a otros ser pastores y maestros. Así preparó a los del pueblo
santo para un trabajo de servicio, para la edificación del cuerpo de Cristo.
"¿Es el papel del pastor hacer discípulos?" Hmmm. Esta es una pregunta con
trampa. ¿No es mejor decir: "El papel del pastor es equipar al pueblo de Dios
para hacer discípulos"? ¿Cuál es la diferencia?
Efesios 4: 11-12 dice: "Así mismo Cristo “constituyó a unos, apóstoles; a otros,
profetas; a otros, evangelistas; a otros, pastores y maestros" (Vamos a utilizar
la palabra APEPM como acrónimo de los 5 dones.) Necesitamos gente con
estos dones para llevar a cabo estos ministerios o áreas de servicio.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre las personas dotadas con los dones APEPM que
dicen "Vamos a hacer el ministerio y tu puedes ayudarnos" y aquellas que
dicen "Tu puedes hacer el ministerio y nosotros vamos a ayudarte"?
Podríamos movilizar a millones de obreros con las capacidades que vienen
con los dones APEPM. Cuando oramos para que Dios envíe obreros a la mies,
¿cómo podemos hacer que nuestro mensaje sea: "Tu puedes hacerlo y
nosotros podemos ayudarte"?

 ¿Por qué es riesgoso invertir en los demás?
 ¿Qué ayuda les puedes brindar a quienes está haciendo la Serie 1?
 Comparte con alguien lo que necesitas para hacer discípulos y pídele
que ore contigo para que eso suceda.

Day 16: Risk – Accept the Call
Ephesians 4:11, 12
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the
pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that
the body of Christ may be built up.
"Is it the pastor's role to make disciples?" Hmmm. This is a trick question
because isn’t it better to say, "It is the pastor’s role to equip God's people to
make disciples"? What is the difference?
Ephesians 4:11-12 says "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the
evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip his people for works of
service…, “. (We will use the word APEST as a short form for theses 5 gifts.)
We need people with this gifting to help us do these works of service.
What is the difference between the APEST gifted people saying "We will do
the ministry and you can help." or "You can do the ministry and we will help"?
We could mobilize millions of workers with the equipping that comes from
the APEST gifts. As we pray that God will thrust workers into the harvest, how
can we make our message: "You can do it and we can help"?

 Why is investing in others risky?
 What help can you provide those in Series 1?
Make Life Count:
 Tell someone what you need in order to make disciples and invite
them to pray with you to make that happen.

Día 17: Arriesgarse – Encarna las enseñanzas de
Jesús
Mateo 6:33
Mas buscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os
serán añadidas.
En el tercer paso de su método, Jesús comenzó a invertir a través del proceso

de “estar con". Lee los Evangelios y observa cómo Jesús invirtió en sus
discípulos. ¿Cuál fue su estrategia? ¿Cuáles fueron los métodos que utilizó? Él
hizo y le hicieron una cantidad de preguntas a medida que los discípulos
participaban en todo lo que Él hacía. Jesús les asignó tareas. Dejó que fallaran
y que volvieran a intentarlo. Él hizo muchas cosas que les permitieron a sus
discípulos adquirir convicción en sus vidas.
Al costo que tienen en este paso lo llamamos "agilidad de riesgo". La agilidad

es la capacidad de mantener el equilibrio en medio de circunstancias
inestables. Aprendemos a aplicar nuestra fe de manera práctica asumiendo
riesgos. No podemos predecir todos los resultados. Le cedemos el control a
Dios. No tenemos más garantía que Su presencia. Nos hacemos ágiles cuando
nos unimos a la danza de lo que Dios está haciendo. El tercer verbo del
aprendizaje es 'arriesgarse'.

 ¿Cuál es el tipo de cosas que hacen que no quieras poner el Reino de
Dios en primer lugar?
 ¿Por qué consideramos el riesgo como algo negativo
que debe ser limitado?

 Considera un área del Reino de Dios que deseas "poner en
primer lugar '. Decide lo que significa hacer eso.

Day 17: Risk - Incarnate Jesus’ teachings
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well.
In the third step in Jesus’ method, he began to invest through the 'being with'
process. Read through the Gospels and observe how Jesus invested in the
disciples. What was his strategy? What were the methods he used? He asked
and was asked a lot of questions as the disciples participated in everything.
He gave them things to do. He let them fail and try again. He did many things
that built conviction into their lives.
Our cost in this step is 'risk agility'. Agility is the ability to keep our balance in
the midst of unstable circumstances. We learn to put our faith into practice
requiring risk. We can't predict all outcomes. We surrender control to God.
We have no guarantees other than God's presence. We become agile as we
join in the dance of what God is doing. The third learning verb is ‘to risk’.

 What types of things would make you not want to put God's Kingdom
first?
 Why do we consider risk a negative characteristic that needs to be
limited?
Make Life Count:
 Consider one area of God's kingdom that you want to 'put first'.
Decide what it means to do that.

Día 18: Arriesgarse – Imita a otros creyentes
1 Coríntios 11:1
Sigan ustedes mi ejemplo, como yo sigo el ejemplo de Cristo.
Filipenses 3:17
Hermanos, sed imitadores de mí y mirad a los que así se conducen según el
ejemplo que tenéis en nosotros,
Ser un imitador puede tener una connotación negativa, pero la verdad es que
la mayor parte de las cosas las aprendemos por imitación. Esto se refleja en
los versículos de hoy: "Sed imitadores de mí, así como yo de Cristo." Y
"únanse a otros imitadores míos, hermanos y hermanas, y así como nos han
tomado como modelo, mantengan sus ojos en los que viven como nosotros "
Vemos varias generaciones de ejemplos a imitar. Enseñamos muchas cosas en
la iglesia por imitación: la forma de vestir, el momento de sentarse y de
ponerse en pie, nuestra terminología, nuestro estilo de vida. Muchas
congregaciones parecen tener su propio estilo en cuanto a lo que sus
participantes imitan.
¿Por qué es tan difícil imitar al pastor en hacer discípulos? Si el método
principal para hacer discípulos es la prédica, esto es difícil de imitar.
Normalmente no podemos observar las conversaciones privadas de los
pastores cuando hacen discípulos. Necesitamos un sistema de discipulado
que permita la observación y la imitación.

 ¿Por qué es la imitación es algo riesgoso?
 ¿Qué te gustaría que otras personas imiten de tu vida?

qué.

Day 18: Risk – Imitate other believers
1 Corinthians 11:1
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Philippians 3:17
Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you
have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.
Being an imitator can have a negative connotation but the truth is that we
learn most things by imitation. This is reflected in today's verses: "Follow my
example, as I follow the example of Christ." And "join together in following
my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep
your eyes on those who live as we do." We see various generations of
examples to imitate. We teach many things in church by imitation: the way
we dress, when to sit down and stand up, our terminology and our lifestyle.
Many congregations seem to have their own flavor as to what is imitated by
their participants.
Why is it difficult to imitate the pastor in making disciples? If the main
method to make disciples is preaching, that is difficult to imitate. We don't
observe the private conversations of the pastor making disciples. We need a
discipleship system that permits observation and imitation.

 What would you like people to imitate from your life?

Día 19: Arriesgarse – Hazte un practicante
Lucas 11:28
Él contestó:
—¡Dichosos más bien quienes escuchan lo que Dios dice, y lo obedecen!
Debemos practicar a imitar lo que observamos a fin de volvernos
competentes. Esto podría resumirse en ser "hacedores de la Palabra” en el
sentido de que tenemos la habilidad y capacidad de discipular a otros en
nuestro propio entorno sin requerir el apoyo directo de ningún programa. La
práctica continua genera una mejoría.
En frente de nuestra casa hay un grupo de jóvenes a quienes les gusta

practicar me sorprende sobremanera.
Practiquemos el interactuar con las Escrituras, el involucrarnos en la
comunidad, en abrazar la misión que Dios nos dio en este mundo.
Practiquemos el escuchar, el hacer preguntas, el responder con una palabra
cariñosa. Practiquemos la oración y el dar. Practiquemos los mandamientos
de reciprocidad. Retomando nuestra analogía de aprender a andar en
bicicleta, la práctica nos permite quitar las ruedas de entrenamiento para
andar por donde queramos.

Day 19: Risk – Become a practitioner
Luke 11:28
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
We need to practice what we observe and imitate, in order to become
proficient. It could be summed up in being 'doers of the Word', where we
have the necessary skill and ability to disciple others in our own environment
without requiring the direct support of programs. It suggests continued
practice resulting in improvement.
In front of our house there is a group of young people who love to practice
jumps and turns on their skate boards. I am amazed at their seemingly
endless ability to practice.
We practice engaging the Scriptures, relating in community, embracing God’s
mission to the world. We practice listening, asking questions, answering with
a loving word. We practice praying, and giving. We practice risk taking and
reflection on what we are learning. We practice the 'one-another' commands.
In our bike riding analogy, practice permits taking off the training wheels and
riding the bike wherever you wish to go.

through practice?

La innovación puede atemorizar a aquellos líderes que sienten una gran
necesidad de controlar lo que ocurre. Uno de los mejores ejemplos de
innovación en el Nuevo Testamento es el de cuatro amigos que llevaron a
otro amigo que estaba paralizado junto a Jesús. Todo empezó en la
imaginación de alguien que luego se conectó a otras tres personas para que le
ayudaran a llevar a su amigo. El precio del riesgo súbitamente se intensificó
cuando se dieron cuenta de que las puertas y ventanas estaban bloqueadas
por las multitudes. Utilizaron la innovación para encontrar una solución que

Day 20: Risk - Be an innovator
Mark 2:3-5
Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.
Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an
opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the
mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the
paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Innovation can be scary for leaders who have a high need to control what is
going on. One of the best examples of innovation in the New Testament is the
4 friends who took their friend who was paralyzed to see Jesus. It started in
someone’s imagination who then connected to three others to help carry
their friend. The risk price tag suddenly escalated when they realized that the
doors and windows were blocked by the crowds. They used innovation to find
a solution which was to dismantle the roof and lower their friend to Jesus.
They weren’t imitating anything they had seen before nor did they have
anyone’s permission for such a drastic measure. They came up with
something absolutely new in order to get the job done.
In our ever-changing world, we need to find new ways to solve problems and
be innovative in our discipleship methods.

 How would you have reacted to this innovation if you were the home
owner?
 How do we practice innovation?

to Jesus? What does that look like?

Day 21: Risk – Get launched into global
participation
Matthew 9:29
Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to
you.”
Here are some goals for equipping people to make disciples:
 We keep Christ the center of what we do and not methods.
 We recognize previous experience so we adjust to the need and
abilities of the learners.
 We offer advanced challenges to those who are discipling others, so
they don’t keep repeating the same things.
 We mobilize everyone in discipleship so that it becomes a visible
characteristic of our community.
 We practice skills for a limited time to be personalized later on so we
don’t become method focused.
 We visualize the results so we know what is happening and celebrate
progress.
 People have everything they need to disciple others on their smart
phone and by using their Bible.
We improve the system by user feedback so we learn how to learn
better. Next we will look at how to use challenge levels in our discipleship so
we can adjust the difficulty of what we offer to meet the learner’s needs.

 What are you asking God for on their behalf?

ARRIESGARSE - Días 15 a 21
El riesgo es la fe con manos y piernas. Es entrar en acción de acuerdo a una
realidad de Dios. Nos arriesgamos cuando intentamos hacer algo que
sabemos que inevitablemente fallaría sin la ayuda de Dios. El riesgo es algo
muy incómodo para nosotros pero complace a Dios (Hebreos 11:6). Si ha
habido algún momento de la historia en que la Iglesia debe tomar riesgos, es
ahora. Las oportunidades y las crisis abundan. Este podría ser nuestro
momento más crítico.
El resultado de combinar los verbos IMAGINAR y CONECTARSE es que el verbo
ARRIESGARSE se convierte en plural. Gracias a Dios! Cuando dos o tres se
reúnen en el nombre de Jesús para actuar, contamos con la presencia
consoladora de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. El hecho de que no estemos solos es
algo que nos empodera inmensamente.
Debemos acostumbrarnos a ser ágiles para tomar riesgos. Puede que uno
tenga la impresión de que las cosas en el mundo se hacen más inestables y se

Meet this week to discuss RISK:
Days 15 to 21
Risk is faith with legs on it. It is taking action based on the reality of God. Risk
attempts something that without God’s help would inevitably fail. Risk can be
extremely uncomfortable but it is God-pleasing (Hebrews 11:6) If ever there
was a time in history where we need God’s church to take risks, it is now.
Opportunities and crises abound. This could be our greatest hour.
The result of combining the verbs IMAGINE and CONNECT is that RISK is now
plural. Thank goodness. When two or three can gather in Jesus’ name to take
action, there is the comforting presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that
we are not alone is immensely empowering.
We might as well get used to becoming risk agile. One gets the impression
that things in the world will get more unstable and out of kilter. At the same
time this could produce scenarios of massive revival. Are we ready?
For discussion:
1. Can you think of examples where you practiced and innovated in the
ministry? How was that received?
2. What is God saying to you about risk?
3. How do we find stability if everything is risky?
NOTE: The next two learning verbs: REFLECT and CELEBRATE, will help us in
this area.

Day 22: Reflect – Delight in what God is saying
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything
is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
The last two learning verbs in discipleship are reflect and celebrate. Perhaps
we are most accustomed to think of discipleship in terms of these two words.
Our engagement with the Scriptures is heavily based on reflection although
perhaps not enough on how our life compares to what is being said. Our
worship is a celebration of God in our midst although perhaps lacking in
celebrating the personal victories since the last time we gathered together.
Reflect and celebrate are activated when we actually practice of the other
three verbs since without imagine, connect and risk, reflect and celebrate can
become quite theoretical. We talk about life instead of living it. When we
actively involve the first three verbs, our reflection in the Scriptures re-aligns
us and we celebrate what God is doing, which motivates us to imagine,
connect and risk some more. - A wonderful integration of experience and
theology.

piense de sí con moderación, según los dones que Dios le haya dado junto con
la fe.
En la Biblia y en nuestra experiencia personal podemos encontrar ejemplos
del Observador, Imitador, Practicante, Innovador y Sabio Constructor. Hay
espacio para que todos crezcamos. Esto significa que si estás comenzando
algo nuevo, debes tomarte tiempo para observar. Igualmente, si quieres
ayudar a alguien a involucrarse en algo, dale tiempo para que observe sin
necesidad de que se comprometa completamente desde el inicio. Luego
empieza imitar algunas cosas hasta que comiences a sentirlas normales.
Continúa practicando estas cosas hasta que te hagas competente. Más
adelante, podrás encontrar una manera de innovar y mejorar las cosas que
estás haciendo. El objetivo final es llegar a ser un sabio constructor que a

Day 23: Reflect - Look back on your
journey
Romans 12:3
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself
more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment,
in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
We see examples in the Bible and from our experience of the Observer,
Imitator, Practitioner, Innovator and Wise Builder. There is room for everyone
to grow. It means if you are starting something new, take time to observe. Or
in helping someone else, give them time to observe without having to be
completely committed. Then start slowly to imitate until some things begin to
feel normal. Then practice these things until you feel proficient. Later you
may find a way to innovate and improve the way things are being done. The
end goal is to become a wise builder who through experience and suffering is
a skilled worker.
We may be very skilled in one area of our spirituality and just be observers in
another. One developed skill set does not guarantee maturity in another. It
can be helpful for a person to assess themselves using these challenge levels
to figure out the next step in their growth.

you can figure out what to do next?
 How can you apply today’s verse?

Day 24: Reflect – Look forward to deepen the
patterns
Proverbs 8:34
Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my
doorway.
Engaging the Scriptures is a cause for continual celebration. Listen to what
the others are observing from the Scriptures and what stands out. Pray
conversationally together. Listen to the stories of where God is at work and
see how you can be of encouragement. Solve any uncertainties with the
readings or the online connection. Share comments during the week. Seek to
‘be with’ your friends in the growth process. Ask questions, listen, pray, ask
some more.
At the same time we are going to deepen our understanding of how disciples
were made in the New Testament. We want to keep looking for the pattern
that we can imitate both to keep growing ourselves and to help others in the
journey. Finding simple patterns can make an enormous difference. We want
something that is simple to do and easy to share.

 How is our devotional life described in Proverbs?
 How can you help another person receive the blessing described in
today's verse?

 Picture yourself watching and waiting at God's doorway. What do you
see yourself doing?

Me gustaría contarte la historia de Juan Evangelista y Ana la hacedora de
discípulos. Juan todos los días ayuda a 2.740 personas a encontrar a Cristo, o
sea que gana un millón de personas al año. Ana, por otro lado, discipula una
persona al año y le enseña a hacer lo mismo. Durante el primer año, Ana está
sola pero en el segundo año hace su primera discípula, y sigue creciendo a ese
ritmo, por lo cual su número de discípulos se duplica cada año.
l cabo de 10 años, Juan ha ayudado a 10 millones de personas a encontrar a
Cristo, un grupo del tamaño de Lima, Perú, mientras que Ana ha discipulado a
512 personas.
Después de 20 años, Juan ha ayudado a 20 millones de personas, lo cual
equivale al tamaño de Nueva York, y Ana adiestró a medio millón de
personas, lo que sería equivalente al tamaño de Lisboa, Portugal.
Después de 34 años, Juan ha ayudado a 34 millones de personas, lo cual es

Day 25: Reflect – Consider the consequences of
multiplication and addition
2 Timothy 2:2
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses
entrust to reliable people who will also be qualifies to teach others.
I would like to tell you a story of John Evangelist and Anne Disciple-maker.
John helps 2740 people find Christ daily, a million people a year. Anne, on the
other hand, disciples one person a year and teaches them to do the same.
The first year Anne is by herself, the second year there is the first disciple and
every year it doubles.
At the end of 10 years John has helped 10 million people find Christ, a group
the size of Lima, Peru, while Anne has discipled 512 people.
After 20 years John has helped 20 million people, the size of New York and
Anne has discipled half a million people, the size of Lisbon, Portugal.
After 34 years John has helped 34 million people, the size of Tokyo Japan.
However Anne has discipled the population of the earth! The first is a ministry
of addition and the second is a ministry of multiplication. If we really want the
world to be blessed by learning about Jesus, it needs to be done by a pattern
of multiplication because it is the best way to mobilize as many people as
possible.

 What would Anne do with a person who is just starting the 40 days of
discipleship?
 Why is faithfulness so important for multiplication to happen?

benefit along to someone else?

Día 26: Reflexionar - Considera tu impacto
1 Tesalonicenses 2:19
Pues, ¿quién es nuestra esperanza, nuestra alegría y nuestro motivo de
orgullo delante de nuestro Señor Jesús, cuando él regrese? Si no lo son

Day 26: Reflect - Consider your impact
1 Thessalonians 2:19
For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the
presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?
The incarnation step focuses on the power of one: we imagine what God’s
unfolding kingdom could look like as we move toward incarnating the Gospel.
The Invitation to follow Jesus highlights the potential of two or three as
we connect with others to learn and serve together. The Involvement stage
makes faith practical and highlights the cost of following Jesus as we
take risks.
Experiential learning leads us to reflect on God’s teaching in real life.
Our changed story leads us to celebrate the prize of seeing more laborers
mobilized into the harvest: the very thing we were asking for in the Luke 10:2
prayer. We receive a new story which releases a sense of fulfilled purpose in
the kingdom adventure. And as we continue to pray, we learn to help others
become laborers who join us in God’s kingdom purposes.

 For whom?

 Following Paul's example, ask God to enable you to invest in others
like a crown. Who are these people?

Día 27: Reflexionar – Considera como Dios habla y
actúa

Dios no es como los mortales: no miente ni cambia de opinión.
Cuando él dice una cosa, la realiza. Cuando hace una promesa, la cumple.
Repasemos algunas promesas de las Escrituras e intenta detectar las
condiciones y las bendiciones prometidas. ¿Puedes identificar la promesa y la

Day 27: Reflect – Consider how God
speaks and acts
Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should
change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
Let’s review some promises in the Scriptures and see if you can spot the
condition and the promised blessings that are offered. Can you identify what
is being promised and what must be fulfilled as a condition? The 40 Days DNA
Series is looking at promises at this time as well. We will discuss later how the
promises of God are crucial in terms of reaching the world but it is good
practice handling God’s promises correctly. What are the promises and
conditions in the following verses:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness.
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his
Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God
does not have life.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

 What are the most breath-taking promises in the Bible for you?
 How are the promises of God based on who he is?
Make Life Count:
 Take one promise and go for a walk and discuss with God what you
hope to see from that promise.

Day 28: Reflect – Evaluate your path and
direction
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Today's verse illustrates how the DNA of discipleship and the 5 learning verbs
work together. The lamp of the WORD shows us where to take the next step
and its’ light marks the right direction. The lamp is for our feet: the immediate
goal. And the light is for our path: the overall direction we are taking.
The DNA helps us practice listening and conversing with God. The 5 verbs
help us build an effective communication with God.
The DNA helps us practice caring for others. The 5 verbs help us invest in
others for a lifetime.
The DNA helps us to consider our calling. The 5 verbs help us to live out our
calling.
With the DNA we risk experimenting with some spiritual growth skills. With
the 5 verbs we live as disciples and workers.
We need the lamp AND the light of the Scriptures for both short term practice
and long term lifestyle.

 How are the Scriptures a lamp and a light for you?
 How can you encourage Series 1 participants to keep engaging in the
Scriptures?

REFLEXIONAR - Días 22 a 28
Si reflexionamos profundamente, no estaremos hablando de teoría. Nuestra
reflexión no será un pensamiento vago sobre controversias, o información
(largas presentaciones o tediosas listas de cosas para hacer). Cuando nos
miramos al espejo de las Escrituras con la iluminación de Espíritu Santo,
vemos nuestras vidas desde dos perspectivas diferentes:
 Quienes somos realmente en Cristo: seres comprados con la sangre
del Cordero, real sacerdocio, nación santa, con una herencia
incorruptible en el Cielo.
 Vasos terrenales y recipientes de semejante maravilla. Estamos

hechos de tierra, podemos ser fácilmente quebrados, luchamos con
nuestros pecados e inevitablemente nos quedamos cortos en
nuestras buenas intenciones.
Nosotros tenemos la mente de Cristo, pero no es siempre fácil tener Sus

pensamientos. Aunque tenemos el espejo de la Palabra que nos muestra lo
que debemos cambiar, nos vemos en un espejo opacado. Tenemos gracia en
sobreabundancia pero nos cuesta ponerla en práctica. Dios nos conoce
profunda e íntimamente, pero a veces nosotros mismos nos desconocemos.
La reflexión nos ayuda a resolver esto. La Palabra nos lava e iluminas nuestro
camino. Recibimos consuelo aunque no podemos entender. La reflexión nos
da espacio para descansar y para tener esperanza. La reflexión nos quita el
desgaste, sana nuestras heridas, nos quita el cansancio, nos reabastece de
gozo y nos hace sabios.
Cuando tomamos tiempo para reflexionar, nos preguntamos por qué no
accedimos a esta bendición antes. La reflexión nos permite despojarnos de
nuestro egocentrismo, tener una mejor perspectiva y tomar decisiones bajo la
claridad de la luz de Dios. Reemplazamos la prisa por el reposo, la confusión
por la claridad y el ruido por la quietud.
La reflexión no se trata de buscar información acerca de Dios, sino de estar
con Dios. Podemos empezar leyendo su Palabra, pero pronto nos damos
cuenta de que Él está leyendo con nosotros. En la reflexión todo cobra
perspectiva y empezamos a conocer la manera en que somos conocidos por
Dios. Aunque es tan hermosa, fácilmente nos olvidamos de ella.

Meet this week to discuss REFLECT:
Days 22 to 28
If we reflect deeply, we will not be talking about theory. These will not be
idle thoughts about controversies, or information-heavy presentations or
tedious lists of chores. When we look into the mirror of the Scriptures by the
illumination of the Holy Spirit, we see our lives from two different
perspectives:
1. Who we really are in Christ, purchase by the blood of the Lamb, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, with an undefiled inheritance reserved in heaven.
2. The earthen vessels that are the containers of such wonder. We are made
of clay and easily broken, struggling with our sins and inevitably falling short
of our best intentions.
We have the mind of Christ, but it is not always easy to think His thoughts.
We have the mirror of the Word which shows us where to change but we see
through a mirror dimly. We are lavished with grace but struggle to put it in
practice. We are known deeply and intimately by God but sometimes hardly
know ourselves.
Reflection helps sort this out. The Word washes us and lights our way. We
receive comfort even though we don’t understand. Reflection gives us space
to hope and rest. It lifts our weariness. It heals our wounds. It replenishes our
joy. It makes us wise.
When we take time to reflect, we wonder why we hadn’t availed ourselves to
this blessing earlier. We are able to shed our self-importance and gain
perspective. We can more easily make decisions in the clear light of God. We
replace hurry with rest, confusion with clarity, and noise with stillness.
Reflection is not finding information about God but it is being with God. We
may start by reading His word but soon he is reading us. In reflection,
everything is brought into perspective and we begin to know as we are
known. It is so beautiful and yet so easy to neglect.
For discussion:
1. How do you practice reflection? How could you deepen reflection?
2. What do you find difficult about reflection? How could others help?

3. Who do you know who seems good at reflection? What attracts you?
4. How does reflect fit into the three earlier verbs: imagine, connect,
risk?

Día 29: Celebrar – Regocíjate en lo que Dios
está haciendo
Filipenses 4:4
Alégrense siempre en el Señor. Repito: ¡Alégrense!
El cambio de historia que vivieron los discípulos cuando pasaron del miedo
que los llevó a esconderse justo después de la resurrección a ser misioneros
que cambiaron el mundo fue un paso muy notable en el proceso de su
conversión. Los discípulos fueron llenados con el poder de Dios en el
Pentecostés, de tal forma que a partir de ese momento todas sus experiencias
y los riesgos fueron energizados por el Espíritu Santo.
Recibimos el Espíritu Santo cuando nacemos del Espíritu. Con su poder
pasamos de ser el ministerio a hacer el ministerio. Empezamos a pensar en
hacer discípulos y en tomar la iniciativa no sólo para nuestro propio
aprendizaje, sino también para animar a otros. A medida que nos adentramos
en los pasos de la encarnación, repetimos el proceso de formar a otros

Day 29: Celebrate – Rejoice in what God is
doing
Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
A remarkable step in the disciples’ conversion process is a story of the change
from them hiding in fear after the resurrection to becoming world-changing
missionaries. The disciples were filled with God’s power so all the experiences
and risks were energized by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
We receive the Holy Spirit when we are born of the Spirit. With His power we
move from being the ministry to doing the ministry. We start thinking about
making disciples and taking agency not only for our own learning but also to
encourage others. As we move into the incarnate step, we repeat the process
in forming other learners to become workers. We have a new purpose as
Kingdom workers desiring to help mobilize more workers.
This activates the fifth learning verb which is to ‘celebrate’. We worship God
for who he is and also we praise him for what he is doing in and through us.
For Reflection:
 What are you celebrating in your own discipleship?
 What are you celebrating with your friends who taking the 40 days?
Make Life Count:
 Make a list of celebration items and talk to God about it. (Consider
having a special place in a notebook to keep a running list)

Día 30: Celebrar – Aprende como sufrir
2 Timoteo 3:10-11
Pero tú has seguido bien mis enseñanzas, mi manera de vivir, mi propósito, mi
fe, mi paciencia, mi amor y mi fortaleza para soportar, y has compartido mis
persecuciones y mis sufrimientos, como los que tuve que soportar en
Antioquía, Iconio y Listra. ¡Qué persecuciones sufrí! Pero el Señor me libró de
todo ello.
Mira la confianza de Pablo acerca de que la profundidad de su vida sería
pasada a Timoteo. Y observa como la transformación que sostuvo a Pablo en
su sufrimiento también preparó a Timoteo para pruebas futuras.
Imagina que estás preparando a alguien para dificultades futuras
simplemente por medio de observar como respondes al sufrimiento de
manera similar a como lo hizo Cristo. Dejar tal legado debe ser motivo de
verdadero regocijo!
Dios quiere que te vuelvas un obrero y seguramente ya tiene a la persona a
quien tu invitarás. Esa persona está lista para aprender de ti observando tu
vida y tu enseñanza, y mirando como enfrentas las pruebas. Tu paciencia y
amor, tu perseverancia y tu resiliencia esperan ser transferidas a medida que
compartes tu vida. No retrocedas. Tu arrojo te llevará a la celebración.

Day 30: Celebrate – Learn how to suffer
2 Timothy 3:10-11
You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith,
patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things
happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured.
Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
Look at Paul’s confidence that the depth of his life was passed on to Timothy.
And observe how the transformation that sustained Paul in his suffering also
prepared Timothy for future testing.
Imagine preparing someone else for future difficulties by them simply
knowing us as we respond to suffering in a Christ-like way. Leaving such a
legacy is cause for real rejoicing!
God wants you to become a laborer and probably already has that person
waiting for you to invite. That person is ready to learn from you, to observe
your life and teaching and to watch you as you face trials. Your patience and
love, endurance and resilience are waiting to be passed on as you share life.
Don’t hold back. Your risking will lead to celebration.
For Reflection:
 How has your own suffering changed you?
 Consider the discipleship of watching others suffer? What does it teach
you?
Make Life Count:
 Imagine being at the very end of your life then write a letter to yourself
for today. Give advice of what you need to do so you will be able to say,
like Paul, that someone else knows all about your life, purpose, faith etc.

Día 31: Celebrar – El poder de un ejemplo vivo
2 Timoteo 3:14
Tú, sigue firme en todo aquello que aprendiste, de lo cual estás convencido. Ya
sabes quiénes te lo enseñaron.
¿Recuerdas cuando hablamos de Juan y Ana, y de la adición versus la
multiplicación? ¿Qué pasaría en el año 34 si en el año 2 una de las primeras
personas que respondió positivamente decidiera no continuar? En el caso de
Juan, él tendría 34 millones de personas menos una. Pero en el caso de Ana, si
una sola persona renunciara al principio, reduciría el número de conversiones
a la mitad, de 8000 millones a 4000 millones. Y cada vez que alguien decidiera
no continuar, los resultados se seguirían reduciendo dramáticamente. Esta es
la razón por la cual la fidelidad es tan importante para la multiplicación.
Pablo le dijo a Timoteo que buscara la cualidad de la fidelidad en las personas.
Le dijo que había que invertir en personas fieles, capaces de enseñar a otros.
La multiplicación no puede darse sin fidelidad. Sin perseverancia no vamos a
hacer el esfuerzo de transmitirla a otros. Es por eso que estos 40 días son un
tiempo de prueba que nos puede ayudar a crecer. Quizás tengamos que
reiniciar y volver a intentarlo. Estamos orando para poder invertir en personas
fieles que aprendan a multiplicar sus vidas en otros.

 Teniendo en cuenta que la fidelidad es uno de los frutos del
Espíritu, ¿cómo podemos crecer más en ella?

Day 31: Celebrate – The power of a living
example
2 Timothy 3:14
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced
of, because you know those from whom you learned it,
When we talk about John and Anne and addition versus multiplication, what
would happen in year 34, if in year 2, the first one who responded decided
not to continue? In the case of John, he would have 34 million people minus
1. But in Anne's case, just one person giving up at the beginning would cut the
number in half from 8 billion to 4 billion. And every time someone decided
not to continue, it would dramatically divide the results. This is why
faithfulness is so important for multiplication.
Paul told Timothy to look for this quality in people. He said to invest in faithful
people, able to teach others. Multiplication won’t happen without
faithfulness. Without perseverance we won’t make the effort to pass this on.
That is why 40 days is a time of testing where we grow as a result. We may
have to restart and try again. We are praying for and investing in faithful
people who learn to multiply their lives in others.
For Reflection:
 Since faithfulness is part of the fruit of the Spirit, how do you get
more of it?
 How can you be more faithful to help those in the DNA Series?

 Name one thing from this series that convinced you and are
determined to "continue in.” Tell somebody.

Día 32: Celebrar – Recuerda tus modelos
1 Corintios 11:1
Sed imitadores míos, así como yo lo soy de Cristo.
Filipenses 3:17
Hermanos, sed imitadores de mí y mirad a los que así se conducen según el
ejemplo que tenéis en nosotros.

Y vosotros vinisteis a ser imitadores de nosotros y del Señor, recibiendo la

Me gustaría discutir las siguientes palabras clave de las Epístolas con respecto
al discipuIado: ejemplo, modelo e imitar. Observemos como son usadas en
estos pasajes:
“Imítenme a mí, como yo imito a Cristo....” (1 Corintios 11:1, NVI).
“Hermanos, sigan todos mi ejemplo, y fíjense en los que se comportan
conforme al modelo que les hemos dado. …” (Filipenses 3:17, NVI).
“Ustedes se hicieron imitadores nuestros y del Señor cuando, a pesar de
mucho sufrimiento, recibieron el mensaje con la alegría que infunde el Espíritu
Santo...” (1 Tesalonicenses 1:6-7, NVI).
¿No parece osado esperar que los creyentes debamos volvernos ejemplos,
modelos e imitadores para ayudarles a otras personas a crecer? ¿No
podríamos simplemente transmitir la información y esperar lo mejor? Si
crecer en Cristo es tan importante, por qué eligió Dios a gente común y
corriente para semejante tarea? ¿Por qué nos eligió a nosotros?

Day 32: Celebrate – Remember your
models
1 Corinthians 11:1
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Philippians 3:17
Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you
have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.
1 Thessalonians 1:6-7
You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in
the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you
became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
I would like to discuss these key words for making disciples that stand out in
the Epistles: example, model and imitate. Let’s observe how they are used in
these passages:
“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ... “
“Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you
have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.…”
“You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message
in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so
you became a model to all the believers...”
Doesn’t this seem rather daring to expect believers to become examples,
models and imitators to help others grow? Couldn’t we just transmit the
information and hope for the best? If growing up in Jesus is so important, why
did God pick normal people to have such a key role? Why did he pick us?
For Reflection:
 Celebrate someone who has been an example or model that you have
imitated.
 How do you feel about being an example or model for others to
imitate?
Make Life Count:
 Do something that someone else could imitate without drawing
attention to yourself.

Día 33: Celebrar – Regocíjate en los pequeños
inicios
Isaías 54:1-3
Da gritos de alegría, mujer estéril y sin hijos; estalla en cantos de gozo, tú que
nunca has dado a luz, porque el Señor dice: «La mujer abandonada tendrá
más hijos que la mujer que tiene esposo.»
Agranda tu tienda de campaña, extiende sin miedo el toldo bajo el cual
vives; alarga las cuerdas, clava bien las estacas, porque te vas a extender a
derecha e izquierda; tus descendientes conquistarán muchas naciones y
poblarán las ciudades ahora desiertas.
¿Prefieres seguir el ejemplo de Juan guiando a miles a Cristo todos los días
durante 34 años? ¿O imitar a Ana discipulando a unos pocos y enseñándoles a
hacer lo mismo?
Debemos tener en cuenta que el método de Juan podría dar lugar a un
tremendo agotamiento. Para guiar a esa cantidad de personas a Cristo
tendrías que viajar constantemente todos los días y tener un ejército de
personas manejando la logística y un calendario de actividades agotador.
Nosotros no conocemos a nadie que pueda hacer algo así. Además, intentarlo
podría engendrar un sentimiento de fracaso porque la mayoría de nosotros
no podemos replicar lo que vemos en los ministerios multitudinarios, los
cuales a veces consideramos modelos de éxito. También sería un poco
irresponsable porque se estaría trayendo gente a Cristo sin proporcionarle los
recursos necesarios para ayudarles a crecer. Sería como dejar a un niño en la
calle sin supervisión sabiendo que hay una alta probabilidad de que sea
lastimado.
Pero Ana es un ejemplo de alguien que podemos imitar! Simplemente
empieza a animar a otra persona a que te acompañe en un viaje de
aprendizaje con Jesús. Ellos aprenderán de ti por imitación.

 ¿En qué ministerio podrían las personas sentirse más como un
número que como un individuo?
 ¿Cómo dio Jesús atención personal a las personas?
 ¿Qué significa "ensanchar tu carpa" para ti hoy? Da un paso para
hacer eso.

Day 33: Celebrate - Rejoice in

Isaiah 54:1-3
"Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for
joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the Lord.
"Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold
back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to
the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in
their desolate cities."
Would you prefer to follow John’s example of leading thousands to Christ
daily for 34 years? Or imitate Anne by discipling a few and teaching them to
do the same?
We need to consider that John's method could lead to tremendous burn-out.
To win that many people to Christ every day would need constant travel, an
exhausting schedule and an army of people handling logistics. We don't know
anyone that could do this. It could also breed a sense of failure, because we
often view the ministry with a high response as the model of success and
most of us can't repeat that.
There is also a certain irresponsibility because it brings people to Christ but
not provides any resources to help them grow. It is like leaving a child
unsupervised who then wanders into traffic with a high likelihood of getting
hurt.
Anne is an example of someone we can follow! Simply start to encourage one
other person to join you on a learning journey with Jesus. They learn by
imitating what you are doing.

 In which ministry would a person feel most like a number?
 How did Jesus give personal attention to people?
Make Life Count:
 What does "enlarge your tent" mean for you today? Take a step to do
that.

Día 34: Celebrar – Sé agradecido con el Reino
Lucas 10:2
Y les decía: La mies a la verdad es mucha, más los obreros pocos; por tanto,
rogad al Señor de la mies que envíe obreros a su mies.
Yo tengo dos fotos favoritas de infancia con mi hermano, cada uno a un lado
de nuestro padre. En cada foto los niños están en la misma posición que el
padre. Cuando él tuvo las manos en su bolsillo, nosotros lo que imitamos.
Cuando él puso sus manos atrás, mi hermano lo imitó. Nadie nos dijo que
posáramos así, nosotros imitamos el ejemplo de nuestro padre de manera
natural.
Eso mismo ocurre en el discipulado. Nosotros imitamos a Cristo, pero
generalmente a través de las personas que ayudan a discipularnos. Nosotros
los imitamos como ellos imitan a Cristo. El patrón de Jesús es formado en
nosotros a través de este proceso. Nosotros luego ofrecemos este patrón
para que otros lo imiten. No es una cuestión de SI los demás van a imitarnos,
sino más bien de CUANDO lo van a hacer. Si cambiamos nuestro patrón,
podemos cambiar también el tipo de discípulos que vendrán después de
nosotros.

Day 34: Celebrate – The Fruit of Imitation
Luke 10:2
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord
of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
I have two favorite photos with my brother and myself each standing beside
our dad. In each case the boy in the picture was standing exactly like Dad.
When his hands were in his pockets, that is what I imitated. When his hands
were behind his back that is what my brother imitated. No one told us to
stand that way, we just naturally imitated the example Dad gave us.
And that happens in discipleship. We imitate Christ, but we often do that
through the people who help disciple us. We imitate them as they imitate
Christ. Through this process the Jesus pattern is formed in us. We then go on
to provide the pattern that others imitate. It is not a question IF others will
imitate us but what is the pattern we provide WHEN they imitate us. By
changing our pattern, we can change the type of disciples that will come after
us.
For Reflection:
 Celebrate something you imitated from your upbringing?
 Today’s verse is on praying for laborers. Who is imitating your prayer?

Día 35: Celebrar – Paternidad Espiritual
1 Tesalonicenses 2:5-12
Porque nunca usamos de palabras lisonjeras, como sabéis, ni encubrimos
avaricia; Dios es testigo; ni buscamos gloria de los hombres; ni de vosotros, ni
de otros, aunque podíamos seros carga como apóstoles de Cristo. Antes
fuimos tiernos entre vosotros, como la nodriza que cuida con ternura a sus
propios hijos. Tan grande es nuestro afecto por vosotros, que hubiéramos
querido entregaros no sólo el evangelio de Dios, sino también nuestras
propias vidas; porque habéis llegado a sernos muy queridos. Porque os
acordáis, hermanos, de nuestro trabajo y fatiga; cómo trabajando de noche y
de día, para no ser gravosos a ninguno de vosotros, os predicamos el
evangelio de Dios. Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios también, de cuán santa, justa
e irreprensiblemente nos comportamos con vosotros los creyentes; así como
también sabéis de qué modo, como el padre a sus hijos, exhortábamos y
consolábamos a cada uno de vosotros, y os encargábamos que anduvieseis

En el pasaje de hoy, el Apóstol Pablo se describe a sí mismo como una
“nodriza que cuida a sus propios hijos” (v.7). Luego dice “sabéis de qué modo
como el padre a sus hijos, exhortábamos y consolábamos a cada uno de
vosotros, y os encargábamos que anduvieseis como es digno de Dios , que os
llamó a su reino y gloria” (v11). Él hubiera podido describir a su equipo como
soldados, granjeros o atletas como en otros pasajes, pero para estos nuevos
cristianos prefirió usar la analogía de una nodriza y un padre que están
pendientes de sus hijos. El bebé necesita leche para crecer, y la nodriza se la
da. El padre es alguien que anima, que consuela y guía. Esta es la escena
íntima del discipulado.
No es una cuestión de producción en masa, sino un ambiente de aprendizaje
como el que uno tiene en una familia que provee cuidado personalizado que
le ayuda al creyente a fortalecerse y a seguir creciendo.

Day 35: Celebrate - Spiritual Parenting
1 Thessalonians 2:5-12
You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up
greed—God is our witness. We were not looking for praise from people, not
from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have
asserted our authority. Instead, we were like young children among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because
we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the
gospel of God but our lives as well. Surely you remember, brothers and sisters,
our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to
anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and
so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who
believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with
his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy
of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
In today's passage the Apostle Paul describes himself and his team as "a
nursing mother who cares for her children " (v.7) He goes on to say "For you
know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,
encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God who calls
you into his kingdom and glory" (v11). He could have described his team in
terms of soldiers, farmers or athletes as he does elsewhere, but for these new
Christians he chose to use the analogy of a nursing mother and an attentive
father. The baby needs milk to grow which the nursing mother provides. The
father is an encourager, comforter and guide. This is a very intimate picture of
discipleship.
There is no mass production but a learning environment like one receives in a
family that provides personalized care that helps new believers get strong and
keep growing!

 What are the characteristics of a good mother and father?
 Be aware of these roles as you meet with the DNA group this week.
Make Life Count:
 Be thankful for the spiritual parents in your life and ask God for grace
to be a good spiritual parent yourself.

CELEBRAR – Días 29 a 35
La manera en que celebramos demuestra lo que verdaderamente valoramos.
El material de esta semana tiene algunos pasajes relacionados con temas que
son difíciles de celebrar, lo cual puede preocuparnos. ¿Qué tal que de
realmente pudiéramos celebrar cada cosa que hace Dios? - ¿La manera en
que fuimos hechos; quienes somos; nuestros talentos y nuestros límites; lo
placentero y lo difícil; nuestras circunstancias y oportunidades; la vida y la
muerte?
Así como debemos aprender a imaginar, a conectarnos con otras personas y a
arriesgarnos, también debemos a prender a celebrar. Esto involucra el
abandonarnos a nosotros mismos y el rendir nuestra vida con alegría.
Celebramos con nuestra cabeza y con nuestro corazón ya que en la
celebración debe haber pensamiento y sentimiento. Hay canciones y hay
silencio. Algunas veces es un acto voluntario y otras veces es una emoción
sobrecogedora. En la celebración hay triunfo y hay lágrimas; todo nuestro ser
es impactado.
Celebrar – al igual que otros verbos – es una disciplina espiritual que debe ser
practicada a nivel personal y a nivel de nuestra comunidad de fe. A veces el
sentimiento de celebración puede surgir en nosotros cuando vamos
caminando solos. Entonces, la gratitud y la alabanza empiezan a fluir de
manera rebosante. El movimiento físico también nos ayuda a celebrar, pero
cada uno tiene su nivel de comodidad con respecto a la expresión del mismo.
El pasar de la reflexión a la celebración es fácil, pues es una respuesta natural
a una obra sobrenatural.

Meet this week to discuss CELEBRATE:
Days 29 to 35
The way we really celebrate shows what we truly value. This week has some
passages that relate to themes that are difficult to celebrate which may cause
us some concern. What if we really could celebrate everything that God does?
The way we are made? Who we are? Our gifts and limits? The pleasant and
the difficult? Our circumstances and our opportunities? Life and death?
We need to learn to celebrate just like we need to learn to imagine, connect
and risk. This involves a joyful abandon and surrender. We celebrate with our
heads and with our hearts. In celebration there is thinking and feeling. There
are songs and there is silence. At times it is an act of will and other times it
can be an overwhelming emotion. There is triumph and there are tears. It
touches all of our being.
Celebration, like the other verbs, is a spiritual discipline that is practiced
personally and in the community of faith. I find celebration welling up within
me sometimes as I walk alone. Thanksgiving and praise overflow. Movement
helps me celebrate. We each have our comfort levels in how that is
expressed.
The flow from reflection into celebration is an easy one. It is a natural
response to a supernatural working.
In the next section we will describe how these 5 verbs can be practiced.

Día 36: Practicar – Involúcrate totalmente
Marcos 6:35-44
Cuando ya se hizo tarde, se le acercaron sus discípulos y le dijeron:

—Éste es un lugar apartado y ya es muy tarde. Despide a la gente, para que vayan a
los campos y pueblos cercanos y se compren algo de comer.
—Denles ustedes mismos de comer —contestó Jesús.
—¡Eso costaría casi un año de trabajo! —objetaron—. ¿Quieres que vayamos y
gastemos todo ese dinero en pan para darles de comer?
—¿Cuántos panes tienen ustedes? —preguntó—. Vayan a ver.
Después de averiguarlo, le dijeron:
—Cinco, y dos pescados.
Entonces les mandó que hicieran que la gente se sentara por grupos sobre la hierba
verde. Así que ellos se acomodaron en grupos de cien y de cincuenta. Jesús tomó los
cinco panes y los dos pescados y, mirando al cielo, los bendijo. Luego partió los panes
y se los dio a los discípulos para que se los repartieran a la gente. También repartió los
dos pescados entre todos. Comieron todos hasta quedar satisfechos, y los discípulos

Jesús continuamente utilizó el aprendizaje experiencial con sus discípulos a medida
que los fue involucrando en el ministerio. Cuando se quejaron de que la multitud
tenía hambre, Jesús les dijo "Denle de comer ustedes". Él hizo que pasaran de
espectadores a participantes activos del drama que veían delante de ellos. Los
discípulos aprendieron imitando lo que veían hacer a su maestro.
Los hacedores de discípulos involucran a los discípulos en el aprendizaje experiencial.
Es un estilo de vida de 'estar con' que no puede ser producido en masa. Como

Day 36: Practice - Involve yourself fully
Mark 6:35-44
By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote
place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go
to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and
spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
“How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green
grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and
the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he
gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish
among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve
basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten
was five thousand.
Jesus used continual experiential learning with his disciples as he involved
them in the ministry. When they complained that the multitude was hungry
he said “You feed them”. He moved them from spectators to participants in
the unfolding drama. They learned by imitating what they saw their teacher
do.
Disciple-makers involve the disciples in experiential learning. It is a 'be with'
lifestyle that cannot be massed produced. As disciples, we learn as we go. It
is Just-in-time learning instead of Just-in-case learning. Be careful of the Just-
in-case mode that says "You don't know enough to start unless you know
everything.” This can cause us to be permanently afraid to risk. It is fine to fail
as long as we learn from it. In fact it may be the only way to learn certain
things. By reflecting on these lessons, we continually compare the experience
to what Jesus taught. The fourth learning verb is ‘to reflect’ on these
experiences.

 What is one learning experiences you can reflect on?
 How can you help someone practice the DNA in the first series?
Make Life Count:
 Where you should take action for what God is laying on your heart?

Día 37: Practicar – Edifica cuidadosamente
1 Corintios 3:10-11
Yo fui el maestro albañil al cual Dios en su bondad encargó poner los
fundamentos, y otro está construyendo sobre ellos. Pero cada uno debe tener
cuidado de cómo construye, pues nadie puede poner otro fundamento que el
que ya está puesto, que es Jesucristo.
El mayor desafío y el más alto, es llegar a ser sabio constructor. El apóstol
Pablo dijo: "Por la gracia que Dios me ha dado, yo puse los cimientos como
constructor sabio, y otro edifica sobre él. Pero cada uno debe construir con
cuidado." ¿Cómo nos convertimos en sabios constructores en el Reino? Se
trata de saber cómo sentar bases que sean lo suficientemente fuertes para
permitir que otros construyan sobre ellas por medio de sus dones. Esta es una
meta que puede tomar años de experiencia en el ministerio y algo de
sufrimiento. Llegar a esta perspectiva y alcanzar la madurez espiritual tienen
un precio alto. Pablo dijo que él "moría cada día" en su preocupación por las
iglesias. También expuso los grandes riesgos que corría en sus viajes y la
furiosa oposición que enfrentaba de parte de las autoridades.
A través de las generaciones, los obreros han pagado un gran precio para
hacer discípulos. Pero Dios promete que cosecharemos, así de no debemos
desanimarnos.

 ¿Conoces a un sabio constructor?
 ¿Que contribuyó a que esa persona alcanzara esa estatura espiritual?
 Escribe 5 preguntas que podrías hacerle a un sabio
constructor. Pregúntaselas esta semana.

Day 37: Practice – Build with care
1 Corinthians 3:10-11
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and
someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one
can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
The highest challenge is to become a wise builder. The Apostle Paul said "By
the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and
someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care." How do
we become wise builders in the Kingdom? It is knowing how to lay
foundations that are strong enough to allow others to use their gifts to build
upon it. It is a goal to work towards that may take years of ministry
experience and some necessary suffering. This perspective and maturity does
not come cheaply. Paul said he ‘died daily’ in his concern for the churches. He
also exposed himself to great risks in his travels and faced raging opposition
from the authorities.
Through the generations, workers have paid a great price attaining this
stature, as they make disciples. God promise we will reap if we do not lose
heart.
For Reflection:
 Do you know a wise builder?
 What contributed to that person’s stature?
Make Life Count:
 Write down 5 questions you could ask a wise builder? Ask them this
week.

Día 38: Practicar – Usa los verbos como
semillas de mostaza
Mateo 13:31-32
Jesús también les contó esta parábola: «El reino de los cielos es como una
semilla de mostaza que un hombre siembra en su campo. Es, por cierto, la
más pequeña de todas las semillas; pero cuando crece, se hace más grande
que las otras plantas del huerto, y llega a ser como un árbol, tan grande que
las aves van y se posan en sus ramas.»
Los 5 verbos del aprendizaje - imaginar, conectarse, arriesgarse, reflexionar y
celebrar - son maneras de imitar el método de Jesús para hacer discípulos.
Observamos que Jesús es el Verbo que transforma a todos con quienes tuvo
relación. Los 5 verbos del aprendizaje nos ayudan a avanzar en este camino
de transformación a medida que nos conectamos con el ADN del discipulado.
Interactuar con las Escrituras, con la comunidad y abrazar la misión de orar
por nuevos obreros se enriquecen con estos 5 verbos.
Tradicionalmente nos hemos centrado en los últimos dos verbos: reflexionar y
celebrar. Si bien éstos son muy importantes, pueden hacer que nuestro

convierte en realidad y nuestra reflexión y celebración se intensifican a

Day 38: Practice - Use verbs like mustard seeds
Matthew 13:31-32
He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard
seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all
seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree,
so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
The 5 learning verbs: imagine, connect, risk, reflect and celebrate, are ways to
imitate Jesus’ method in making disciples. We observed that Jesus is
the Verb who transforms all with whom he had relationship. The 5 learning
verbs help us in this path of transformation as we connect to the DNA of
discipleship. Engaging the Scriptures, interaction in community and embracing
the mission of praying for workers are enriched by these 5 verbs.
Traditionally we have focused on the last two verbs: reflect and celebrate.
While these are very important it can leave our discipleship quite theoretical.
As soon as we add imagine, connect and risk, everything changes. The
kingdom starts to break out around us. We see new opportunities. Theory
becomes reality and our reflection and celebration intensify as we experience
the living God at work. We will look at each verb in more detail.

 How are these verbs like mustard seeds?
 How do integrity, transparency and vulnerability connect to
these learning verbs?

 Imagine your life as a package of seeds. Where are these seeds being
planted?

Día 39: Practicar – Pídele las naciones a Dios
Salmo 2:8
Pídeme que te dé las naciones como herencia y hasta el último rincón del
mundo en propiedad, y yo te los daré.
Permíteme darte una herramienta muy sencilla de aplicar: ¿Qué vas a hacer
en los próximos 5 minutos, en los próximos 5 días, en las próximas 5 semanas,
en los próximos 5 meses y en los próximos 5 años? En 5 minutos puedes
hacer una oración. En 5 días puedes decidir a quién invitar a participar en el
discipulado. En 5 semanas puedes completar la mayoría de los 40 días de
discipulado con las personas que invites. En 5 meses podrías completar un
segundo grupo de 40 días de discipulado. Y en 5 años podrías ver un patrón
de multiplicación de discípulos que comienza a extenderse por todo el
mundo, con todo tipo de obreros trabajando en lugares a los cuales quizás tu
nunca podrías llegar.
¿Por qué no pedir una herencia de un millón de obreros y participar con

que ellos inviten a otros. Tu herencia te está esperando. Pídesela a Dios hoy.

 Sal esta noche y cuenta las estrellas durante el tiempo que te sea

Day 39: Practice - Ask God for the nations
Psalm 2:8
Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth
your possession.
Let me give you a simple tool for application: What are you going to do in the
next 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months and 5 years? In 5 minutes you
could say a prayer. In 5 days you could decide who to invite to participate in
discipleship. In 5 weeks you can experience the majority of the 40 days
together. In 5 months you could probably do this with a second group. And in
5 years you could see a solid pattern of multiplication of disciples that begin
to stretch across the globe, with all sorts of equipped laborers working in
places you may never get to.
Why not ask for a million worker inheritance and participate with us to make
it happen? Invite people to start engaging the Scriptures and encourage them
to invest 1 minute a day to learn to be and make disciples. Then encourage
them to pass it on to others. Your inheritance is waiting. Ask God for it today.

 What inheritance are you asking for from God?
 Who can you invite to join you?
Make Life Count:
 Go outside this evening and count the stars as long as you
can (especially if you can get out in the country). Ask for an
inheritance of the nations.

Día 40: Practicar – Multiplica tu camino al cielo
Judas 1:24-25
El Dios único, Salvador nuestro, tiene poder para cuidar de que ustedes no
caigan, y para presentarlos sin mancha y llenos de alegría ante su gloriosa
presencia. A él sea la gloria, la grandeza, el poder y la autoridad, por nuestro
Señor Jesucristo, antes, ahora y siempre. Amén
Esto ha sido todo un viaje de aprendizaje. A estas alturas el ADN debe ser una
lámpara constante a tus pies y tu camino debe estar siendo guiado por las
Escrituras a medida que éstas interactúan con tu forma de pensar, de ser y de
hacer uso de los 5 verbos del aprendizaje. Permanece atento a cómo puedes
usar la imaginación, las conexiones, el arriesgarte, la reflexión y la celebración
para guiarte en el servicio a Dios. Mantente abierto a nuevas posibilidades de
invitar a nuevas personas, de arriesgar más, de reflexionar profundamente y
de celebrar a menudo.
Puedes animar a los que terminan la Serie 1 a iniciar la segunda serie de los
40 Días de Discipulado y a que inviten a otros a hacer lo mismo. Puedes

Day 40: Practice – Multiply your way to heaven
Jude 1:24-25
To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his
glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior
be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before
all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
This has been quite a journey. By now the DNA should be a consistent lamp to
your feet and your path should be lit by the Scriptures interacting with your
thinking, being and doing using the 5 learning verbs. Keep observing how
imagine, connect, risk, reflect and celebrate can be used to guide you in
serving God. Be open to new possibilities of including new people, risking
more, reflecting deeply and celebrating often.
You can encourage those finishing Series 1 to start the second Series of the 40
Days and have them invite others to join them. You may be able to form a
team for prayer and encouragement as you each disciple others. The DNA
activities are still valid for your personal growth and you can share your
experience with the learning verbs. We welcome your stories of what has

visto en mí, y el Dios de paz estará con ustedes." Fil.4:9 (NVI)
 Si nuestras conversaciones son solo sobre teoría, podrían volverse
contraproducentes porque podrían sugerir que todo lo que uno
necesita es más información. Tener enseñanza exclusivamente teórica
puede hacernos reacios a la práctica.
 Algunas cosas solamente se pueden aprender a través de la práctica.
Por ejemplo: Montar en bicicleta, leer la Biblia, cocinar, cuidar a otros,
ser padre o madre, orar, servir a otros y estudiar las Escrituras.
 Nuestro ejemplo se hace más creíble ante los demás a medida que
practicamos. El hecho de que los demás no observen ninguna
aplicación práctica en nuestras vidas, puede llevarlos a pensar que la
teoría no funciona.
 Dado que Practicar es un verbo, ¿por qué no hablamos de 5 verbos de
aprendizaje y no de 6? Porque el practicar ya está implícito en cada
uno de los otros. Hemos elegido enfatizarlo aquí porque es fácil dejar
de practicar y pensar “esto ya lo sé.” Saber no es igual a hacer.
 En nuestra sociedad atiborrada de información, tenemos hambre de
práctica significativa.
 Observa a alguien que esté practicando una destreza que quieras
aprender. ¿La puedes fraccionar en pequeños pasos? Practícala tú
mismo y pídele a alguien que te observe y que te diga lo que observa.
Repite algo con lo que no estés familiarizado hasta que te familiarices,
y luego reflexiona en tu experiencia. Adáptalo de la manera que
mejor te parezca y practica ayudándole a otras personas a practicar.
 ¿Cómo te ha ayudado la práctica en tu vida espiritual? ¿En
qué áreas sientes que necesitas pasar de la teoría sobre Dios
a la práctica verdadera?

Days 36 to 40
"What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—
practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." Phil.4:9 (ESV)
 If our discussions are only about theory, it could be counterproductive by

implying is that all you need is more information. Exclusive formal teaching
can make us practice-adverse.
 Some things can only be learnt by practice. Examples include: Bike riding and
Bible reading, Cooking and caring for others, Parenting and Prayer, Serving
others and studying the Scripture.
 Our example will become more credible to others as we practice. The lack of
observing meaningful application in our lives can make others think that the
theory does not work.
 Since Practice (or practise) is a verb, why don’t we call it the 6 verbs of
learning? Practice is contained in each of the verbs already. We have chosen
to emphasize it here because it is easy to stop practicing and think “I know
this already.” Knowing is not equal to doing.
 In our information-glutted society we hunger for meaningful practice.
 Observe someone practicing the skill to be learned. Can you break it into
smaller steps? Try it yourself and get feedback from someone observing
you. Repeat what is unfamiliar until it becomes familiar and reflect on the
experience. Adapt it to what seems to fit better for you and practice helping
someone else practice.
