El Presente Simple se usa para:

Hablar de hábitos o rutinas:
– I usually wake up at 6 am.
(Yo usualmente me despierto a las 6 am.)
– Ralph smokes one package of cigarettes a day.
(Rafael fuma un paquete de cigarrillos por día.)

Hablar de verdades generalmente aceptadas:
– Caracas is a crowded city.
(Caracas es una ciudad muy poblada.)

Hablar de situaciones con cierta permanencia en el
tiempo:
– She lives in Los Teques.
(Ella vive en Los Teques.)
– They don't understand me!
(¡Ellos no me entienden!)

También se usa para dar instrucciones o direcciones:
– You first fill in this form. Then you come to my office for
the interview.
(Primero llena este formulario. Luego viene a mi oficina para
la entrevista.)

Para expresar acuerdos presentes o futuros:
– We have a meeting this afternoon.
(Tenemos una reunión esta tarde.)
