Actividad 5: Places Where They Speak English: San
Francisco, USA
Places where they speak English: San Francisco

San Francisco is one of the United States of America’s most beautiful cities. San
Francisco is in the northern portion of the state of California, but it is not as warm as
cities in the southern part of the state like Los Angeles. Many people say that San
Francisco is not very warm and too foggy, but micro-climates provide the city with
several types of weather at once. While one place may be cold and cloudy, another,
nearby, might be sunny and warm.

Because of its compact size, San Francisco is an easy city to walk through. Walking
across San Francisco is also very interesting because the city’s districts have very
different characters. North Beach is San Francisco’s historic Italian community. Some
of the first places to serve espresso in the US were in North Beach. These great cafes
also attracted many famous artists and writers.

Next to North Beach is China Town, San Francisco’s China Town is the largest Chinese
community outside Asia and the oldest China Town in the Americas. Down Stockton
Street, there is a market that sells Chinese food products. The sights, sounds and smells
are from China and in the middle of this district it feels like Shanghai rather than San
Francisco.

San Francisco also has Hispanic, Russian and Vietnamese districts. All these different
neighborhoods are between the golden beaches along the Pacific Ocean and the blue
waters of San Francisco Bay. With all its cultural diversity and natural beauty, San
Francisco is a popular destination for the old and the young.
