Definition and brief history. Definición e historia del floorball.

Floorball is a type of hockey. El floorball es un tipo de hockey. En castellano recibe el nombre
de unihockey.

Its origins can be traced back to Canada in the 1960s, where it was played as a
recreational sport. Tiene su origen en Canadá durante los años 60, jugándose como deporte
recreativo.

The game was formally registered as an international and more organised sport in
the late 1970s in Sweden. Fue formalmente registrado como deporte internacional, más
organizado, a finales de los años 70 en Suecia.

Field and game characteristics. Campo y características del juego.

Floorball is played indoors on a rink whose size can officially vary from 18–20 m
wide to 36–40 m long, and which is surrounded by 50 cm high enclosed boards with
rounded corners. El floorball se juega en instalaciones cubiertas en una pista cuyas medidas
pueden variar entra los 18-20 metros de ancho y los 36-40 metros de largo, y se encuentra
rodeado por barreras de 50 cm de alto. Las esquinas son redondeadas.

The goal area is 4 m long and 5 m wide, inside which, and before the goal, there is
the goalkeeper’s area of 1 m by 2.5 m where only the goalkeeper can be. El área de
portería mide 4 metros de largo y 5 de ancho y dentro de ella se sitúa, delante de la portería, el
área del portero, con medidas 1 x 2,5 metros, donde solo el portero puede estar.

A floorball game is officially played over three periods lasting 20 minutes each. The
time is stopped in the case of penalties, goals, time-outs and any situation where
the ball is not considered to be in play. Un partido de floorball se juega en 3 periodos de 20
minutos cada uno. El tiempo es detenido en caso de penaltis, goles, tiempos muertos o cualquier
situación en la que la pelota no se considere en juego.

Players and positions. Jugadores y posiciones.

Each team is formed by 6 players, one of which will act as goalkeeper. Cada equipo
está formado por 6 jugadores, uno de los cuales es el portero.

The team is allowed to change players any time in the game, so substitutions are
unlimited. Usually they change the whole team, but individual substitution happens
sometimes, mostly when a player is exhausted or is hurt. Cada equipo puede sustituir a
los jugadores en cualquier momento, por lo que las sustituciones son ilimitadas. Normalmente
suelen cambiar a todo el equipo, pero a veces cambian solo a un jugador, sobre todo su está muy
cansado o lesionado.

FLOORBALL POSITIONS:
1. Goalkeeper / goalie
2. Left defender
3. Right defender
4. Left attacker / left wing
5. Centre
6. Right attacker / right wing

Goalkeepers wear limited protection provided by padded pants, a padded chest

protector, knee pads and a helmet. They do not use sticks and may use their hands
to play the ball when they are within the goalkeeper's box. Besides, they are
allowed to throw the ball out to their teammates provided that the ball touches the
ground before the half court mark. Los porteros llevan un equipo específico de protección,
formado por pantalones y jersey acolchados, rodilleras y casco. No usan stick y deben utilizar sus
manos para parar o coger la pelota cuando estén en el área del portero. Además, pueden pasar la
pelota a sus compañeros con la mano si estos están en su mitad del campo.

Sticks, balls and the goal. Sticks, bolas y portería.

The maximum size for a stick is 114 cm, and it can not weigh any more than 350 grams.
La longitud máxima del stick es de 114 cm, y no puede pesar más de 350 gramos.

A floor ball weighs 23 grams and its diameter is 72 mm. It has

26 holes in it. La bola de floorball pesa 23 gramos y su diámetro es de
72 mm. Tiene 26 agujeros.
There have been several times where a ball has been
recorded to have traveled at a speed of approximately
200 km/h. En ocasiones, la pelota de floorball ha alcanzado velocidades
de aproximadamente 200 km/h.
The goals are 160 cm wide and 115 cm high. Their depth is 65
cm. Las porterías miden 160 cm de ancho y 115 cm de alto. Su
profundidad es de 65 cm.

Basic rules. Reglamento básico.

No high sticking. Blade must stay below player's knees. If ball is played with any
part of the stick above the knee, it is high sticking. No levantar el stick. La parte inferior
(blade) no debe superar la altura de las rodillas. No se permite golpear la bola con el cuerpo por
encima de la rodilla.
No slashing. Do not hit your opponent's stick. Prohibido golpear el stick de otros
jugadores.
No lifting, pushing or kicking the opponent's stick. Prohibido levantar, empujar o dar
patadas a los sticks de otros jugadores.
You cannot reach between your opponent's legs with your stick. Prohibido intentar
alcanzar la pelota metiendo el stick entre las piernas de otros jugadores.
It is OK to foot pass the ball to your own teammate but you cannot kick the ball
twice in a row. Está permitido pasar con el pie pero no puedes golpear la pelota con el pie dos
veces seguidas.
Do not play the ball with your hand or head (except the goalkeeper). Prohibido golpear
la pelota con las manos o la cabeza (excepto el portero).
Do not jump to reach the ball. Prohibido saltar para alcanzar la pelota.

How to grab the stick. Cómo agarrar el stick.

If you are right-handed, your right hand will be placed below, and if you are left-
handed, it will be your left hand that will do it. Si eres diestro, tu mano derecha irá colocada
en la parte inferior del stick. Si eres zurdo, será la mano izquierda la que ocupe esa posición.
