SECUENCIA DIDÁCTICA
Inicio
 El docente presenta un acertijo en inglés para motivar a los estudiantes.
 Plantea preguntas para recoger los saberes previos de los estudiantes: Do you know who Toribio Rodriguez de
Mendoza was? Do you know the values in English?
 Los estudiantes contestan de acuerdo a lo que saben.
Proceso
 A partir de la información obtenida, el docente presenta a los estudiantes un pequeño texto sobre los valores,
teniendo en cuenta la biografía de Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza.
 Los estudiantes analizan e interpretan el texto para luego responder algunas preguntas.
 Se da a conocer los valores en inglés.
 Identifican los valores y mencionan de manera escrita qué valores en común practican en su familia, colegio y
comunidad con respecto a la biografía de Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza.
 Los estudiantes participan expresando la importancia de los valores en nuestras vidas.

TORIBIO RODRÍGUEZ DE MENDOZA

Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza was born in Chachapoyas

on April 15, 1750. His parents were Santiago Rodríguez de
Mendoza and María Josefa Collantes. He studied at the
Santo Toribio Seminary in Lima and in 1770 he received his
doctorate in Theology at the San Marcos University. In
1778 he was ordained a priest.
From a very young age he was interested in Natural
Sciences and the new political ideas of the Age of
Enlightenment. In the 1790's he was a member of the
Sociedad Amantes del País and participated in the
publication of the illustrated magazine "Mercurio Peruano".
Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza stood out as a brilliant student and obtained the
degree of Doctor of Theology at the Royal and Pontifical University of San Marcos in
Lima. He was teacher of Philosophy and Theology at the Real Convictorio de San
Carlos, where he became Rector.
From 1771 he was professor of the Real Convictorio de San Carlos and its Rector
from 1785 to 1816. During these years Rodríguez de Mendoza instilled in young
people the ideals of the Enlightenment and the reading of the rationalist philosophers
of the 18th century. He encouraged a critical spirit and political debate among his
disciples, for which he was accused on several occasions of fomenting conspiracies
against the King.
In 1821 he signed the Act of Independence of Peru and the following year he was
elected Deputy of the First Constituent Congress. He died in Lima on June 12, 1825.
