Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell (Nacida el 18 de diciembre de 2001, Los Angeles) es una cantante pop
norteamericana. Suele componer en colaboración con su hermano Finneas, que es también el
productor de muchas de sus canciones y la acompaña en sus actuaciones. Se la considera uno de los
fenómenos musicales de mayor impacto de los últimos años.
A los catorce años firmó un contrato con la discográfica Interscope Records. En 2015, lanzó a través de
SoundClound su canción Ocean Eyes. La peculiar estética neogótica de la joven, sus letras fatalistas, su
sonido electrónica y minimalista, y su voz ronca y susurrante no tardaron en llamar la atención. Otra de
sus canciones, Bored, fue elegida para la banda sonora de la exitosa serie de Netflix Por trece razones.
Su álbum debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? se convirtió en un éxito abrumador,
alcanzando el número 1 tanto en Estados Unidos como en el Reino Unido en 2019. La mayor parte del
contenido del álbum se había grabado y producido en el propio hogar Billie y Finneas.
Ha vendido 4,4 millones de discos en todo el mundo, con este primer disco de estudio, liderando todos
los hits mundiales. También se ha editado el EP Don't smile at me. Se ha anunciado igualmente el
lanzamiento de una línea de ropa y merchandising inspirada por Billie, junto al célebre
diseñado Takashi Murakami.
Billie's parents, Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell, were musicians and actors, working in the
Hollywood film industry. Their parents did not believe in formal education, and they educated Billie and
Finneas at home. Both she and her brother were encouraged from childhood to express themselves
artistically, through music, composition and acting classes. He grew up in the Highland Park
neighborhood. At the age of eight, he joined the L.A. Children's Choir. and participated in several
children's talent auditions. Billie wrote her first song at the age of eleven, inspired by The Walking Dead
series. His idol, back then, was Justin Bieber.
At the age of fourteen, he signed a contract with the Interscope Records label. In 2015, he released his
song Ocean Eyes through SoundClound. The peculiar neo-gothic aesthetic of the young woman, her
fatalistic lyrics, her electronic and minimalist sound, and her hoarse and whispery voice soon drew
attention. Another of his songs, Bored, was chosen for the soundtrack of the hit Netflix series 13
Reasons Why.
Their debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? it became an overwhelming success,
reaching No. 1 in both the US and UK in 2019. Most of the album's content had been recorded and
produced in Billie and Finneas' own home.
He has sold 4.4 million records worldwide, with this first studio album leading all world hits. The EP
Don't smile at me has also been released. The launch of a clothing and merchandising line inspired by
Billie has also been announced, together with the famous designer Takashi Murakami. He has received
five Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, three MTV Video
Music Awards, and one Brit Award.
In 2020, it was announced that she would be responsible for the theme song for the new James Bond
movie, No Time to Die. She is the youngest artist chosen for the soundtrack of a 007 film. For this song
she received the Oscar for Best Original Song. In 2021, with an excellent reception from the public and
critics, their second album, Happier Than Ever, was released, which coincided with a marked change in
image.
