ONE MORE STEP TO CLEAN THE PLANET

Este hermoso proyecto comenzó con Allison David, Salvador Díaz, Daniel García y yo;
María Rosa García. Nos dimos cuenta que a medida que pasa nuestra vida, el planeta se
está viendo cada vez más afectado con nuestro descuido e imprudencia en los desechos
Nuestro objetivo como proyecto es: contribuir a un medio ambiente sano a través de
limpiezas en lugares públicos para crear conciencia sobre el daño que generamos con
nuestra basura a la naturaleza. Con esto dimos el primer paso para la creación de este
hermoso acto de amor y entrega con nuestra naturaleza con la cual queríamos aprender el
verdadero valor de nuestro ambiente y como se ve afectada nuestra seguridad y salud si
mantenemos un mundo sucio y al mismo tiempo queríamos transmitir ese aprendizaje a
toda nuestra comunidad.

Juntos buscamos una forma de poder ayudar a nuestro medio ambiente desde nuestra
posición de estudiantes. Investigamos muchos lugares de la zona atlántica colombiana para
poder conocer que partes necesitaban nuestra ayuda. No dimos cuenta que a pocos
kilómetros, en la ciudad de barranquilla se encuentran una variedad de playas que son muy
lindas pero que en estos momentos están llenas de basuras y escombros. Todos estuvimos
de acuerdo que antes de limpiar otras zonas; debemos empezar con la nuestra. Durante
muchos días tuvimos varias charlas con el fin de organizar este proyecto. Contamos con la
asesoría de profesores y profesionales para llevar a cabo la actividad. Hicimos jornadas de
sensibilización buscando apoyo de nuestra comunidad universitaria pero no recibimos la
respuesta esperada, porque nos dimos cuenta que muchos jóvenes no entienden aun las
consecuencias que trae para los ecosistema la contaminación que causamos nosotros
mismos. Debido a esto comenzamos el proyecto nosotros solos.

Fue una experiencia muy divertida y enriquecedora aunque dejo un poco de tristeza y rabia
por las condiciones que encontramos en estas playas. Nuestro equipo todo el tiempo se
mantuvo unido realizando este trabajo con paciencia y ánimo. Existieron muchos
obstáculos de tiempo, porque al ser estudiantes no contamos con mucho tiempo libre; por
otro lado las condiciones climáticas no fueron muchas veces las mejores ya que había
momentos donde hacía mucho calor y la brisa era insoportable en otros. Durante la
realización de este proyecto aprendí a valorar mucho la naturaleza y pensar en las
generaciones próximas. Las actividades de limpieza tuvieron que suspenderse porque el
mundo está atravesando una crisis de salud debido a la pandemia del COVID-19 y por
nuestra seguridad y la de nuestras familias no fue posible continuar. Sin embargo esto no es
excusa para dejar de ayudar al planeta por lo cual comenzamos a implementar ayuda en
línea por medio de blogs creados por los integrantes del grupo y así poder ayudar,
concientizar y asesoras a personas que piensan o quieren un planeta más limpio.

En conclusión, este proyecto que nació como iniciativa académica, se convirtió en una
pasión tanto para sus integrantes como para otras personas que estaban interesadas en este
problema mundial. Creo que una de las mayores enseñanzas de este proyecto es comenzar a
pensar en las próximas generaciones, porque si seguimos con este comportamiento anti
ambientalista, quizás nuestros hijos y nietos no tendrán la fortuna de conocer una montaña,
un rio u otros ecosistemas que poco a poco van a desaparecer por la falta de conciencia de
los seres humanos. Sé que falta mucho para que podamos ver un cambio pero cada paso
quedos para que ese día llegue puede cambiar la historia. Recordemos que si no nos
preocupamos por ayudar al planeta esta pronto no se preocupará por nuestra existencia.
 ONE MORE STEP TO CLEAN THE PLANET

This beautiful project began with Allison David, Salvador Díaz, Daniel García and me;
María Rosa García. We realized that as our life passes, the planet is increasingly affected
by our carelessness and recklessness in the waste. Our goal as a project is to: contribute to a
healthy environment through cleanings in public places to create awareness. about the
damage that we generate with our garbage to nature. With this we took the first step in
creating this beautiful act of love and dedication with our nature with which we wanted to
learn the true value of our environment and how our safety and health is affected if we
maintain a dirty world and at the same time we wanted to transmit that learning to our
entire community.

Together we looked for a way to help our environment from our student position. We
investigated many places in the Colombian Atlantic zone in order to know which parts
needed our help. We did not realize that a few kilometers away, in the city of Barranquilla
there are a variety of beaches that are very beautiful but are currently full of garbage and
debris. We all agreed that before cleaning other areas; we must start with ours. For many
days we had several talks in order to organize this project. We had the advice of teachers
and professionals to carry out the activity. We made awareness sessions seeking support
from our university community but we did not receive the expected response, because we
realized that many young people still do not understand the consequences that pollution
caused by ourselves brings to the ecosystem. Because of this we started the project
ourselves.

It was a very fun and enriching experience although I leave a little sadness and rage at the
conditions we find on these beaches. Our team stayed together all the time, carrying out this
work with patience and encouragement. There were many time obstacles, because as
students we do not have much free time; On the other hand, the weather conditions were
not often the best since there were times when it was very hot and the breeze was
unbearable in others. During the realization of this project I learned to value nature a lot
and think about the next generations. Cleaning activities had to be suspended because the
world is going through a health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for our safety
and that of our families it was not possible to continue. However, this is not an excuse to
stop helping the planet, so we began to implement online help through blogs created by the
members of the group and thus be able to help, raise awareness and advise people who
think or want a cleaner planet.

In conclusion, this project that was born as an academic initiative, became a passion both
for its members and for other people who were interested in this global problem. I think
that one of the greatest teachings of this project is to start thinking about the next
generations, because if we continue with this anti-environmental behavior, perhaps our
children and grandchildren will not have the fortune to know a mountain, a river or other
ecosystems that little by little will disappear due to the lack of consciousness of human
beings. I know it is a long way before we can see a change, but each step that remains for
that day to come can change history. Let us remember that if we do not care about helping
the planet, it will soon not care about our existence.
