LIONEL MESSI'S BIOGRAPHY

On June 24, 1987 in Rosario, Argentina, one of the best soccer players in history
was born: Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini, also known as Leo Messi or La Pulga.
He started playing football at 5 years old, and in 1995 he joined the lower divisions
of the Newell’s Old Boys Rosario club.

At 11 years of age he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, whose

treatment was very expensive. The skill and talent of the young soccer player
caught the attention of Carles Rexach, technical director of FC Barcelona. The
Spanish club, then, offered to pay for his medical treatment, and Messi moved to
Spain along with his family.

At the age of 13 he began to play in the lower divisions of Barcelona along with
other future sports figures such as Gerard Piqué and Cesc Fàbregas. He debuted
in the team's first division in October 2004, at 17 years of age.

Among the multiple titles he has won, the Spanish League championships of 2005,
2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 stand out; and those of the Champions League
of 2006, 2009 and 2011. Meanwhile, playing for the Argentine soccer team, of
which he is currently a figure and captain, he won a World Youth Championship in
2005 and the Gold Medal in the 2008 Beijing Games .

He also won personal titles such as Golden Ball, Best FIFA World Player, Golden
Boot, UEFA Best Player in Europe, Best FIFA European Player, and several titles
as a scorer.

El 24 de junio de 1987 en Rosario, Argentina, nació uno de los mejores futbolistas

de la historia: Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini, también conocido como Leo Messi o
La Pulga. Comenzó a jugar al fútbol a los 5 años de edad, y en 1995 se incorporó
a las divisiones inferiores del club rosarino Newell’s Old Boys.

A los 11 años de edad le fue diagnosticada una deficiencia de la hormona de

crecimiento, cuyo tratamiento era muy costoso. La habilidad y el talento del joven
futbolista llamaron la atención de Carles Rexach, director técnico del FC
Barcelona. El club español, entonces, se ofreció a pagar su tratamiento médico, y
Messi se trasladó a España junto con su familia.

A los 13 años de edad comenzó a jugar en las divisiones inferiores del Barcelona
