La Esgrima

La esgrima es un deporte de combate, donde se enfrentan dos

competidores, que deben intentar tocarse con un arma blanca (pero el arma no
debe tener filo ni punta; es decir, no se puede cortar ni pinchar con ella), en cuyo
enfrentamiento se pueden diferenciar tres modalidades: sable, espada y florete.

El objetivo es tocar al oponente con el arma y evitar que el rival haga lo

propio. Para evitar lesiones, los esgrimistas o esgrimidores utilizan un
traje especial y una careta protectora. Cada vez que uno de los
participantes (llamados también tiradores) consigue tocar a su oponente,
obtiene un punto.

Las reglas de la esgrima varían de acuerdo a la modalidad. Mientras que

en la esgrima con espada se puede tocar al rival en cualquier parte del
cuerpo, en la esgrima con sable el ataque puede realizarse al torso, los
brazos y la cabeza. La esgrima con florete, por su parte, solo permite los
toques en el torso.

El venezolano Rubén Limardo es el máximo representante que ha tenido

Venezuela en la esgrima, obteniendo la medalla de oro en los juegos
olímpicos en Londres dos mil doce, ha obtenido el campeonato mundial
en tres ocasiones siendo la última vez en dos mil veintiuno y nueve
medallas en los panamericanos entre los años dos mil tres y dos mil
diecinueve.
