LESSON N° 15
THERE IS – THERE ARE

Las expresiones there is y there are hablan de la existencia o no existencia

de las cosas, y significa hay o no hay.
EXAMPLE

There is an apple

There are four apples

THERE IS : Usamos THERE IS para sustantivos en singular , es

decir para una sola cosa. Además, también lo usaremos para sustantivos
incontables, como por ejemplo: milk (leche), honey (miel), sugar (azúcar),
salt (sal), butter (mantequilla), money (dinero), juice (zumo), water (agua),
rice (arroz), time (tiempo), cheese (queso), etc
EXAMPLE
 There is a pen on the table (Hay un lapicero sobre la
mesa). – “pen” es SINGULAR, ya que es solo uno.

 There is milk in the jag (Hay leche en la jarra). – milk es

INCONTABLE, ya que no podemos decir one milk, two
milks (Una leche, dos leches).

También hay una forma abreviada de escribir y decir there is, que es there’s

 There’s a cat in the house (Hay un gato en la casa)
