Hola y bienvenido a Tu Ingles Sesion Nueve! This is a program for people who want to
learn English.
[MUSIC]
Hola, como estas. Soy Brian, de los estados unidos. Estas listo para ejercitar tu oido para
ingles?
Hi Brian!
Do you know the expression, “how’s it going?”
Howsitgoin. Howsitgoin.
Es un poco extrano, pero no necesitaas contentar esta pregunta con, “I’m fine, thank you”
o algo asi. Howsitgoin solo es un saludo. Puedes contestar, “Hey, howsitgoin?”
1
Anyway, Ceclila, are you ready to travel once again to America and practice your
English?
I am always ready!
OK, here we go ….
Imagine you are Los Angeles International Airport in California … Imaginate estas en el
aeropuerto en Los Angeles .
OK! Well, actually, you are just waiting for a flight to Phoenix, Arizona … estas
esperando un vuelo a Phoenix, Arizona. You are going to visit a friend in Phoenix. Vas
a visitar a un amigo en Phoenix.
Your flight is number 16-35. Que raro, en ingles se dice 16-35. De hecho, es 1635, o
Now. you are feeling tired and bored, and you are becoming a little bit anxious. Estas
cansada, aburrida, y un poco preocupada.
Suddenly, you hear this announcement.
Correct. She said the size – el tomaño -- and the quantity – la cantidad -- are limted …
son limitado.
No importa. It doesn’t matter. You just have a backpack … una mochila. You are not
going to stay long in Phoenix.
2
Ok. There are 45 minutes --- hay cuarenta-cinco minutos – until your flight leaves for
Phoenix … hasta la salida a Phoenix.
Ah, yes. Well, there’s a Starbucks coffee shop nearby. Hay un Starbucks cerca. You
get up and walk over to the Starbucks.
But while you are walking, you hear another announcement. Oyes otro annuncio.
Ceclia, what was that? Were they announcing your flight? 1635? Han annunciado tu
vuelo?
No, I don’t think so. I think she said Milan. Debe ser un vuelo a Milano, Italia.
Ah, ok. Good. Speaking of Italy, maybe you should order a cappuccino at the coffee
shop?
OK, you’re at the Starbucks now. Estas en el café. There is a young man working there.
He is kind of cute. Sabes cute?
Wow. Perfect. Ok, the man gives your order to the barrista, and then he says to you …
3
Right, four dollars and 25 cents.
aeoropuerto.
OK, you give him the money, and then he says this to you.
Ok, he said “where are you headed.” Head significa cabeza, si. Pero esta expresión es
igual de, “Para donde vas?” Where are you headed?
[Ah, cool. I love Phoenix. Well, actually, I’ve never been there. But I hear it’s
really nice. Are you visiting somebody?]
OK, Cecilia, he’s making small talk with you! Sabes “small talk”?
Ceclia, entiendes “I was wondering”? Como se dice eso en español? I was wondering.
Me preguntaba.
Right!! What do you say?
4
[Ah, cool. I hope you have a great trip! Here’s your cappuchino!]
Thank you!
Bien dicho, Cecilia! OK, ahora, que quieres decir? Algo mas?
OK. Venga.
[airport sounds]
OK, you walk back to the waiting area for your flight … caminas a la sala de espera. De
pronto, hay otro annuncio.
I don´t think so.
OK, So, you sit down … te sentas y sorbes tu café. Entonces, oyes algo mas en el
sistema de megafonio.
Ok!! It’s time to board the plane! Tienes que embarcarte ahora.
OK! Well, here I go!! Thank you for helping me in the airport!
You’re welcome! Thank you for your help! Have a great trip … que tengas un buen
viaje! And we’ll see you next time on Tu Ingles!
Bye Cecilia!

THAT’S ENGLISH!
Bueno. But
why?
Why do we worry about our accent? Por que preocupamos sobre el acento?
To tell you the truth, I like the sound of English spoken with a Spanish accent.
For me, an Accent is Orly a problem when it impedes understanding.
A little bit
