 Explotación por Destape (Strip Mining)

Minería de superficie en la cual la recuperación se lleva a cabo contemporáneamente

con la extracción.
Este tipo de minería a menudo se conoce como “Strip Mining”
Se practica frecuentemente en gran escala, lo que resulta en un bajo costo unitario, alta
productividad, alta recuperación y mayor seguridad en comparación con la minería
subterránea.
La minería por destape progresa en una zona estrecha siguiendo el afloramiento de una
veta de carbón en terreno montañoso.
Los métodos específicos usados ​en la minería de destape se conocen como
minería de haulback, box-cut y block-cut (Anon., 1979).
El único aspecto de la minería por destape es que el área removida para minar la mena
es inmediatamente depositada en la anterior área dejada por el minado de la mena
anterior.

Coal of bituminous rank as well as

lignite are the principal products of
area mining. Phosphate and most
oil sands are also mined in this
manner. To a lesser extent
anthracite, bauxite, and bentonite
are also mined by area methods
(Hartman, 1987).
Contour mining is reserved almost
exclusively for removing the thin
coal beds of the Appalachian
region.
 Explotación por Destape (Strip Mining)

In area mining, removal of overburden is accomplished with

large draglines, stripping shovels, or bucket wheel
excavators (BWEs). These machines excavate and deposit
material in one continuous operation. The same function
can be accomplished, in part, through the use of explosives
(cast blasting). Often removal of soil and overburden is
accomplished using a combination of casting machines to
maximize the width of the mining area. Conventional
excavation and haulage techniques (truck and shovels,
scrapers, or dozers) are also used by themselves, or in
conjunction with one or more casting machines.
Conventional excavation and haulage may be dedicated to
topsoil removal only, or it may be employed in removing
both topsoil and overburden
