B- ECOTURISM: Read and write.

Imagine you are a tour guide working in an excellent travel agency. A young couple came from
England. They want to walk around our city and visit some well known places like the
promenade, the artificial waterfalls , the Convention Center, The Andrés Guacurari monument,
the Cathedral, the amphitheatre and many others.

You will organize their tour where they will visit three or four places like the ones we had
mentioned before. You will explain why they were built, when they were built, who built them
and give them details about their importance. Write at least six sentences about each place, an
introduction and a closing paragraph.

The Andrés Guacurari monument

Andrés Guaçurarí Known as Comandante Andresito, he was a Guarani missionary soldier and
leader. He was one of the first federal caudillos of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata in
Argentine History.

The huge stainless steel figure of Andresito Guacurarí, 15 meters high and weighing six tons,
was installed on the Costanera de Posadas in July 2013. It is the work of the renowned Monte
Carlo artist, Gerónimo Rodríguez. The statue of Andrés Guaçurarí y Artigas has an internal
structure that supports the pressure of the wind and a very solid base of stone-reinforced
concrete.

In 2014 the entire promenade was enabled, that is, the entrance to the circular island that is
53 meters in diameter and was located where the Posadas Yacht Club used to be, which is
accessed by a bridge that links it with the Costanera. In addition, a modern lighting system was
installed that allows the monument to be appreciated at night.

The Convention Center

The Convention Center is a cultural center in the city of Posadas, capital of the province of
Misiones in Argentina. It is located on Avenida Ulises López (West Access).

Eng. Carlos Rovira devised and specified the project of creating a place where the arts and
knowledge would meet, completely free of charge. After more than two years of work, on
December 7, 2007 the Knowledge Center was inaugurated.

The Convention Center is located on an area of 25 hectares, with a total of 22,000 m² covered.
From the dry square you can access the main building. On one of its sides there is a pool 35 m
long by 8 m wide and 45 cm deep where 48 lights and nozzles expel the water forming
different choreographies. Below this square is located the parking lot with capacity for 131
cars.

The central building is divided into two rectangular wings (east and west). Both wings have 6
levels -5 floors and a ground floor- and 2 basements in which the different areas and offices of
the Knowledge Center are distributed.

The artificial waterfalls

In 1898 it was decided to build a new church. The then governor of the National Missions
Territory Juan José Lanusse awarded a grant in 1904, beginning the works in charge of Juan
Becker, who works for free. The design of the new church was in the ancient Roman style. In
1934 the idea arose to carry out a large renovation of the church. Thus, the architect Alejandro
Bustillo3 presented a plan that was approved.

The Cathedral is located at number 1850 on the San Martín pedestrian street, near the
Government House of Misiones and other administrative buildings in front of the main square
of the city (July 9). Until the 1960s, the main altar of the temple was made of carved wood
where figures of saints, virgins, bronze chandeliers and crystal vases were found. The pulpit
was made of carved wood and had bas-reliefs representing the twelve Apostles and a
representation of Roque González de Santa Cruz. All of this was withdrawn after the Second
Vatican Council.

In design, Bustillo followed French and Lombard guidelines. Its façade has neo-Gothic
reminiscences and its three naves are stripped away.
