UNIT 7 WORK AND TRAVEL SOCIAL SCIENCE

Contenido mínimo para estudiar:
THREE ECONOMIC SECTORS: (tres sectores económicos)
1. PRIMARY SECTOR: workers in the primary sector obtain natural materials from the
nature (los trabajadores del sector primario obtienen materiales naturales de la naturaleza).
 FISHING (pesca): deep-sea fishing and coastal fishing (pesca en alta mar y pesca costera).
 MINING (minería): We extract coal and iron from mines (extraemos carbón y hierro de las minas).
 AGRICULTURE (agricultura): We have dry crops or irrigated crops (tenemos cultivos de secano o cultivos de
regadío).
 LIVESTOCK FARMING (ganadería): rearing cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry (crianza de ganado vacuno,
ovejas, credos y aves de corral).
2. SECONDARY SECTOR: the industries change raw materials into
products (las industrias transforman los materiales naturales en productos). For example:
automobile industry or textile industry (por ejemplo: la industria del automóvil o la industria
textil).
3. TERTIARY SECTOR: it provides services (ofrece servicios). For example:
tourism, transport, retail, education or health care (turismo, transporte, comercio, educación o atención
sanitaria).
TOURISM IN SPAIN (turismo en España): there are 3 types of tourism (hay 3 tipos de turismo).
1. BEACH TOURISM (turismo de playa): Islas Canarias, Islas Baleares, Costa del Sol or Costa Dorada.
2. WINTER TOURISM (turismo de invierno): The Pyrenees (los Pirineos), Sierra Nevada
or Cordillera Cantábrica.
3. CULTURAL TOURISM (turismo cultural): Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla or
Granada.
TOURIST MAPS (mapas turísticos): use symbols to show places like museums,
tourist offices or car parks (usan símbolos para mostrar lugares
como museos, oficinas de turismo o aparcamientos).

TRANSPORT (transporte): we use public transport,

transport that everyone can use, or private
transport, transport that we own or control, to
transport people or goods (usamos transporte público, transporte
que todo el mundo puede utilizar, o transporte privado, transporte que poseemos o
controlamos, para transportar personas o mercancías).

ROAD SIGNS (señalización vial):

1. Red triangles (triángulos rojos): warning. Be careful… (Advertencia. Ten cuidado…) train, school…
2. Red circles (círculos rojos): prohibition. You can’t… (prohibido. No puedes) park, cycling…
3. Blue circles (círculos azules): obligation. You must… (Obligación. Debes…) go left, go right (ir a la izquierda, derecha)…
4. Blue rectangles (rectángulos azules): information. There is a… (información. Hay un…) hospital, restaurant…
GENERAL RULES (normas generales):
 Wear your seatbelt in the car (usa tu cinturón en el coche).
 Wear a helmet when riding a bike (usa un casco cuando montes en bici).
 Find a safe place to cross the road (encuentra un lugar seguro para cruzar la carretera).
