POSITION PAPER
As is well known, environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems affecting the
world today. One out of every six deaths worldwide is caused by pollution, and the
majority occurs in developing countries, in addition, around 6.5 million people in the world
die prematurely because of this problem. Asia and Africa are the continents that are most
affected, and where are the countries with the highest levels of pollution. China is the
second country with the highest number of victims in the world due to poor environmental
conditions, with an estimated 1.1 million victims annually, this has increased the
government's concern and measures have been taken to control this problem.
Since March 4, 2014, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang declared the war on pollution, since
then, strong policies have been applied, such as the prohibition of the implementation of
new power plants that would work with coal in the more polluted regions of the country, in
addition, existing plants had the obligation to reduce their emissions. Another important
measure and a little more aggressive, was the elimination of heaters that worked with coal,
this maneuver caused some owners of homes, businesses and even students not to have
heating this winter. To replace coal, China has launched the largest investment worldwide
in wind and solar energy.
The People's Republic of China, aware of the need to eradicate this problem, encourages
the other delegations to take measures and create laws that promote the fight against
environmental pollution, this with the only purpose of making our skies blue again and our
citizens breathe a clean air and free of pollutants
