Cuando llegamos al hotel Matildas esperamos encontrarnos con un hotel boutique, pequeño,

en un barrio patrimonial entre calles angostas y edificios antiguos, pero nos hemos encontrado
con mucho más que eso.

Matildas es un hotel gerenciado por sus dueños y fundadores Tatiana y Simon, quienes con
una gran cuota de esfuerzo y valentía le dieron nueva vida a una casa icono de la aristocracia
político-artistica de principios del siglo XX, dando el puntapié inicial al rescate de parte de
privados a los edificios del barrio Brasil-Yungay.

Tatiana nos recibe en su comedor con desayuno tipo buffet, donde destacan detalles coloridos
sobre paredes blancas, flores por doquier y un aire de cercanía combinada con sofisticación
que nos hace sentir cómodos a la vez que fuera del caos del centro de Santiago.

Nos cuenta que no son hoteleros de profesión, cada uno se embarcó en esta aventura sin
tener conocimientos técnicos en el rubro pero sí con la certeza de querer dar solución a la
carencia de buen servicio que en ese momento se hacía latente para ellos al momento de
recibir en Chile a amistades extranjeras.

Desde ahí nace este deseo de ofrecer un servicio integral en primera instancia con un Hostal
inaugurado el año 2002 con tan sólo 20 camas, el mítico La Casa Roja, que luego de 3 años
llegó a las cien camas siendo la elección principal de muchos turistas europeos que
comenzaron a pedir más habitaciones con baño privado.

El año 2009 compran la casa de Agustinas 2149 en búsqueda del rescate patrimonial del que
fuera en sus inicios el hogar de una de las sobrinas de José Manuel Balmaceda, Presidente de
la República a finales del siglo XIX .

Luego de 4 años de trabajo de restauración abren Matildas Hotel Boutique con 17 habitaciones
de dos categorías: Araucaria Suite y Agustinas Deluxe.

Emplazado en un entorno con mucho verdor y todo lo clásico de su arquitectura, Matildas es

un pequeño oasis en medio de Santiago Centro.

When we arrived at Matildas we expect to find a small boutique hotel in a heritage

neighborhood between narrow streets and old buildings, but we have come across much more
than that.

Matildas is a hotel managed by its owners and founders Tatiana and Simon, who with a great
deal of effort and courage gave new life to a house that was the icon of the political-artistic
aristocracy of the early twentieth century, giving the kickoff to the rescue of buildings in the
Brazil-Yungay neighborhood.

Tatiana welcomes us in her dining room with breakfast buffet, where colorful details on white
walls, flowers everywhere and an air of closeness combined with sophistication make us feel
comfortable while out of the chaos of downtown Santiago.
She tells us that they are not hoteliers by profession, each one embarked on this adventure
without having technical knowledge in the field but with the certainty of wanting to solve the
lack of good service that at that time was latent for them at the moment of receive foreign
friends in Chile.

From there is born this desire to offer a full service, first with a hostel opened in 2002 with
only 20 beds, the legendary La Casa Roja, which after 3 years reached a hundred beds being
the main choice of many European tourists that started asking for more rooms with private
bathrooms.

In 2009 they bought this house in Agustinas 2149 in search of the patrimonial rescue of what
was in the beginning the home of one of the nieces of José Manuel Balmaceda, President of
the Republic at the end of the 19th century.
