proteccin jurdica.
Abstract
During the last ten years the terms biotechnology, genetically modified organism (GMO) or GM
have broken into the daily lives of the citizens of our country. In May 1994, the marketing worldwide
of tomato Flavr SavrTM began, and for 2012, 170 million hectares of genetically modified, such as
soybeans, corn and cotton crops were planted. There is no doubt that the use of GMOs in food and
agriculture is still the subject of intense debate in the world, particularly in developed countries, a
debate which is located in the broader framework of the new risks which may arise of scientific and
technological advances. In view of the concurrence of diverse interests do not always coincide, and
it is noticeable that biotechnology and genetic engineering are not out of risks, as it happens with any
human activity and in particular with any technological development, The authors agree that the
application of these technologies in the food industry should be developed in a framework arising
from ethical considerations and ensure legal protection.
