• No hubo diferencias significativas en la respuesta, excepto que la hidroclorotiazida (HCTZ)

pareció ser la menos efectiva.

• El grado de reducción de la presión arterial es el principal determinante de la reducción del

riesgo cardiovascular, no la elección de medicamento antihipertensivo.
• Los ensayos CAPPP, STOP-Hypertension-2, NORDIL, UKPDS e INSIGHT: poca diferencia general
en los resultados entre los fármacos antihipertensivos más antiguos (como diuréticos y
betabloqueantes) y los más nuevos (IECAs y bloqueadores de los canales de calcio)
