INTRODUCTION: Juana Azurduy was an important fighter for human

rights. She was a very important person for the society and she
conquered a lot of battles about women and men rights. She was a
symbol of strength and determination in the history of Latin American
independence movements.

2) She was born in 1780. In Chuquisaca, El Alto Perú. (Now Bolivia). She
went to a nunnery school when she was a girl and she helped her
parents working for them in the countryside. Her father was a white
man and her mother was a half blood woman, daughter of a white man
and an indigenous woman. She had a sister named Rosalia and a
brother named Blas, he died really young. And when Juana and Rosalía
parents died, they were left in the care of some uncles. Due to
discipline problems with her tutors, they decided to send Juana to a
convent, but she escaped from there at a young age and she started to
fight for American independence.
When she was 25, she married Miguel Asencio Padilla, he was the son
of some friends of Juana's family, he was a law student and he was as
interested as Juana in fighting for American independence. They had
five children: Manuel, Mariano, Juliana, Mercedes and Luisa, but four of
them died at a young age and just Luisa survived until adulthood.
She fought in the war because she wanted to expell the "Realistas"
from "El Alto Perú". She fought for freedom, independence, and for the
women and indigenous people rights. She had a lot of problems
because she was a woman challenging the system, but she was very
intelligent so she could overcome those obstacles.
All the things she fought for are considered tools for today's society,
such as women rights and the acceptance of the "pueblos originarios".
She had a long military career, she fought in a lot of battles but sadly
her husband died at a battle and all the people that had led her (Miguel
de Güemes and Manuel Belgrano) died too, she went back home with
her daughter Luisa
Sadly, she died without the acknowledgement she deserved and being
very poor and she was buried in a common pit.

3) Conclusion

rights and people's freedom. She helped us to make the world a better
